Military fitness world wide

There's a site that collects the physical fitness tests of armies and special forces everywhere in the world:
https://msigwarrior.com/index.html

Now, the thing that catches the eye is that everyone goes very hard on muscle endurance or endurance/speed (ie. amrap in a set time). Only extremely few include explosive strength like the Germans (standing broad jump) or Russians (actual sparring in close combat in some cases) and the trifecta of push ups, sit ups and pull ups is only very rarely changed.

Why is this? We're not talking about a cookie cutter type of job description here. We have spec ops, close combat guys, grunts, snipers, etc and everyone has more or less do the same. And, really if you think about it, those are the same exercises that martial artists like wrestlers, boxers or Nak Muay are also doing.

So, why is everyone doing this? Are those exercises the magic pill, along with running?

Picture unrelated.

both agility and endurance are important in the theater of war, along with mental resilience to keep going after having not had a full meal for over 72 hours, you don't want to be complaining about sore quads when a squad of enemy combatants are moving your direction now do you?

      >gets a thermal reading on your quads or buddy's vape smoke
      >snipes you with drone
      >shells you with artlerry for good measure
      What now superman?

that can happen to just about anyone. admittedly superior weapons and technology is what truly matters in modern warfare, but for your own self preservation,if say your vehicle is damaged or destroyed and now you need to move on foot, your still better off finding a cave/building/base etc to lay low when necessary, and getting fatigued before you get there's gonna do you no good, along with how often your own body will need to acquire sustenance.leaving you in the open vulnerable to attack.

No. Sof units don’t do these. The muscular endurance push ups, sit ups, sometimes pull ups, and run is a terrible gauge of actual “military fitness.” This is just shit that was thought up by big army (meaning the military as a whole) by people who don’t know anything. Go look up ranger regiment pt. They have a massively expensive gymnasium with strength coaches and dietitians. They train closer to what football players or basketball players do, with a few notable exceptions. They are without question the most fit people in the US Army as a whole. Normal units will never do this because it costs too much money and upper level leaders are generally fat slobs that don’t want to change.

Any sources for this? Because rn all I see are wild claims not sourced by anything.

It’s a post on IST, not a peer reviewed meta-analysis. You can either believe what he’s saying, don’t believe it, or stop being a useless c**t and look it up

Well, SOME source would be nice, google gives me a nice pdf from fort benning, but it's just kinda a collection of exercises and some "train 5 days a week, do something else every day". Looks a bit like the Nazi exercise books I know, to be honest, which isn't bad, just weird.

Each Ranger is a billion dollar investment for the military. Special authorities in congress and the pentagon oversee the 5-EX protocols for training and augmentation. After several years of Ranger combat training, the operators are masters of all combined martial arts and modern weaponry, can lift 1000 tons, shoot fireball blasts from their hands, and can fly like Goku. Source, trust me bro

Got it, thanks for being such a trusted source, bro.

those are basic fitness tests, doesn't mean they don't train other shit

Because no one fricking cares about lifting something for a second and then dropping it, that's useless on any realistic scenario. You will be doing long hikes carrying a shit ton of gear.
    >muh martial arts
Also no one cares, you shoot people if you want them dead or taze/pepper spray them if you don't.

Most military people aren't going to combat. And when you have so many people, you don't need and can't expect everyone to be a specimen. You just need them to be just good enough to do what is needed of them, unless they are some kind of elite unit or whatever.

    >Why is this?
Because war requires you to be able to have good endurance. All you need is to carry your equipment and walk/jog for long distances and some times sprint in short burst.

This spec ops will sneak up to a swole boi in a trench and slice his throat with a knife, muscles will not help.

I'm confused. What exactly is your question?

US Army recently changed to the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT). It's so blatantly superior it's not even funny. In particular, the sprint drag carry event will frick you up.

The plank was originally a knee-to-elbow tuck hanging from a pull-up bar. Even with about 2 years to train for it, women just didn’t bother, none could do it, so the army just caved and hanged the event

Yep, I went through BCT and AIT during ACFT implementation so all we trained was for the ACFT. And even with forced physical training every morning only about half the girls could do one leg tuck. It's too bad because I could max leg tucks and mogg the other guys.

Don't forget they replaced the run with... a walk. Because America.

        Anonymous

What? No. The 2 mile run is still there. The walk, bike or swim are all there as options for injured soldiers. And all those alternative events have different standards.

ACFT is a joke. Leg tucks got replaced with the plank because many soldiers couldn't pass the leg tuck. The standard gets lower over time to mitigate the retention issues.

        > many soldiers
About 20% of soldiers, or 85% of female soldiers

the acft is ridiculously easy. every fat turd in my unit passed that shit.

So they did the bare minimum? Truly amazing. How many maxed it? I bet zero.

      >2016 We will have a gender-neutral fitness test
      >2021 Women can't pass, we're going back to gendered standards
      >2023 Weak women are allowed in front line infantry units, we need a new test.

Seriously, latest DOD budget specifically calls for a replacement for the ACFT, right after the better part of a decade has been spent on creating the ACFT.

The real hack is to pick an MOS where they have gender-neutral fitness standards on top of Army standards. I, for instance, was a 12D, which through a combination of pullup and swimming requirements basically prevented frickups and lazy people from joining, meaning I got to spend my time in service with decently motivated people.

I've heard good things, and have an Uncle who did that before transferring over to the Coasties to finish out his career flying Jayhawks in Alaska.

Personally, I really liked 12D because I'm naturally a swimmer, not a runner, so being in the only job in the Army where that's what you're doing all the time is great. Plus 90% of our training consists of trips to the Caribbean to dive, which is nice.

You should only pay attention to the Russian one.

Westeners only dare fight unarmed sand people. Only Russia dares fight real fight.

You don't need explosive strength when all your soldiers do is log around heavy equipment that does the killing for you.

Russians are broke so they only really give their soldiers one gun, no need to focus endurance. Germans are extremely efficient so they train all types of strength.

It's the same reason why they teach Krav Maga and not real fighting like Muay Thai or Jiujutsu. Being a soldier in a modern military is mostly a bullshit job, your performance doesn't really matter.
