Think I'm gonna go get employed as a fireman, live close enough that I can do what I want as soon as the hours pass. I'd spend most of my time exercising anyway. Fires happen very rarely around the area. Pays quite well too.

Due to shit job prospects in my area and only having 2 shitty part time jobs I'm also considering going into the military. I fucking despise cardio, my stamina is shit and the gays who tell people to go running should kill themselves
    >shins hurt (expected this but whatever)
    >Nipples hurt like fuck after tshirt rubs me raw (runners never mention this when you start)
    >Running gives me the shits (runners never mention this either)

Whats the best form of cardio for building stamina because running sucks shit.

swimming, its low impact and full body, water is more denser and resistant than air and requires more exertion and effort than running

Whatever you do, don't go to doc about shin splits. You'll train through them, and they'll go away completely. But your medical record will fuck you in the ass if you do.

From what I've heard from those in RM, the weight training would be best swapped with pullups, pushups and situps. Just anecdotal though.

Hiking, camping, hunting, navigation, diving, driving, climbing, skydiving, shooting, language etc. are all things you can do as a civilian. Even learning the basics of these would put your skill level above the average infantry soldier.
Only explosives and maybe some other things are difficult to play around with.

People in the military are, on average, very unintelligent. The military's main investment is not people who excel for their skills, but rather their ability to follow orders. Being a soldier is not about being particularly good at anything, but rather, doing what you're told to the very last minute detail in a way that leaves you no room to fuck up. It's assumed that someone smarter than you already figured everything out.

yes totally is, its just about having the will power and discipline to make yourself do it, because when you're the boss of yourself, its easy to go easy on yourself

You don't really do that much hard ''intense'' training.

The 10km run in the beginning is more a test of general conditioning of the group, most of you cardio in training and in the field will be walking.

If you want an actual test of what it's like to be in the military then pack a bag of clothes, bottles, tools, should be around 20-30kg, then go for a walk in the woods for 8 hours.

I do go rucking a lot, over steep hills for hours, I just don't do that on a daily basis, more every few weeks, its not something you need to do often

      http://specialforcesrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/THOR3-10-Week-Program.pdf

Currently doing C25K to work up to the running in the program linked above. Doing the lifting from that program though with a couple added accessories and push-ups/pull-ups/sit-ups every morning and night. Need to find a local pool and start working on that. Haven’t swam since I was a teenager (10 years or so now) and was never particularly good at it. I wouldn’t drown or anything but I couldn’t tread water very well and I absolutely loathe getting water in my eyes or nose. Still loathe it tbh, if I get water in my eyes in the shower I have to pop my head out and dry them off so they’ll stop intensely burning. How do I get over this? I’ve seen plenty of people who swim with their eyes open underwater like it’s nothing, including many of my childhood friends when we were kids so it’s not like they trained for it or something it’s just something they were naturally fine with doing.

thank you for that link i appreciate the information, honestly getting over the water in the eyes nose etc is something you will need to develop by just jumping in a pool more, the more you do it the easier it is

How the fuck do you make enough working 2 days a week. Are you working for Pablo Escobar?

I have a low cost of living and i split my bills 50 50 with my partner

i wanted to join the military when i was a teenager but my mental instability saw me locked up in a psyche ward instead for making explosives.

now im a construction worker hillbilly redneck who lifts weights just enough to maintain my work load without worrying about being crippled later in life. i loved going hiking with my dirty hillbilly friends later on in life and ive done some crazy shit during my criminal years, staking out empty construction yards for 12+ hours in the swampy woods with mosquitos and shit hiding from the cops in corn fields for days at a time.

not saying i would understand what doing that is like while also knowing im surrounded by people who want to behead me and parade my corpse around, but i miss my younger wild days. ive rappelled down abandoned train trussels to cross rivers, then ofc the usual fishing and camping stuff. i just havent done any of this in about 7 years, i never think about it but when someone mentions it i yearn to do it again.

ive scaled dirt river banks on like 20 degree inclines where im literally climbing tree roots, just to grab metal and literally carry it back up 30 feet so i could scrap it and also clean up the river systems from cunts dumping trash

if its something you yearn to do you should just do it but construction is still honest proud work and no one can take it away from you

tried to respond as best i could thanks

I don't know how it is for UK infantryoids, but here in Burgerland, you're rucking pretty frequently, especially if you're going through any of the schools. You should be doing it at least once a week if UK training is anything like US Army training.

Other than that, your training regimen seems excessive. If you are actually maintaining this routine for extended periods of time, you are either not doing each activity with lots of intensity (which is actually a good thing for endurance training, which is 95% of what will be demanded of you in the Army), or you are getting/going to get horribly injured by this.

What are your lifts and run times?

I recommend throwing some dedicated neck exercises in there. I don't actually know how much it'll help your selection but all the cool special operations dudes seem to have thick necks, so I figure five minutes a day dedicated to your neck wouldn't hurt.

      >military level skills
That is very vague. The average obese 85 IQ redneck with diabetes could outoperate me and the rest of my unit.

OP is training too much and won't get better like this.

    Stick to
    >2 sessions a day,
    >one rest day per week where you stretch and do mobilitiy work.

You want to be cardio fit
    >running
    >swimming
    >cycling if you're getting sore shins

Bodyweight strong - Train HIIT for this
    >pushups
    >chinups
    >situps
    >squats

    able to carry load
    >hiking with 30-40kg pack for ~15-20km without capitulating
    >running with ~10kg of load (body armour / rifle)

    Flexible
    >reduce risk of injuries
    >foam roll at least twice a week
    >full mobility / yoga sesh at least once a week on rest day

    This got me through selection

Not a bong - that's a kiwi coin, but I'm an ausfag. Not sure on UK processes for medical, but if you don't disclose all those things and you can pass the psych, you're probably a chance to get through.

It won't hurt. If you want to pass selection, embrace the suck. Nobody can do 1,000 pushups, but you'll get told to, and they'll watch to see you quit. Nobody can carry an outboard motor 50km, but they will tell you to and watch you quit.

        Selection is about
        >physical preparation (did you do your homework anon?)
        >mental toughness (are you going to quit when it's not very nice anon?)
        >character (are you going to be a cunt to everyone around you when you're tired and hungry, anon?

I was in the infantry and went to Delta selection (it's open to basically everyone surprisingly) and got absolutely blown the fuck out. I twisted my ankle bad on one of the rucks and was medically dropped. I had the option of trying again after a certain period of time but didn't bother cause I knew I didn't have it in me to make it anyways. At the time I was in what I thought was incredible shape. I did cross country in high school so I had a good running pace and I am naturally tall/broad so I'd always been decent at rucking. Most of the guys who passed were from the 75th or Group and their PT scores were similar to mine or worse in some cases but they just had this insane mental strength that I couldn't match. One of my buddies got 2/3 through OTC and failed a shooting standard, failed the retry and was gone just like that. Maybe it's a cope but I'm glad I failed early cause it must be fucking crushing to go out like that.

I should have tried out for the 75th. The SF FID mission would make me want to kms so I never considered it but I probably could have made it through RASP since it's much easier than Delta selection. I don't know why I didn't try it after I got dropped from selection. Probably cause i was a demoralized bitch I guess.

Trying to get into the Marines at 26yrs old. 245lbs and 6'3". Gotta drop 25lbs and hit a 1.5mi in 13mins 30seconds (PB 11mins 35seconds). Gotta hit 36 pushups in 2mins (PB is 27 which took me about a min but I couldn't get another one out) you can choose to do Pull ups instead which you need 3 to get in, I can just barley push 1 out. Finally you got the planking/crunches, 46 crunches in 2mins which I can do easy peas & the plank time to get in is 45seconds I'm at 1min 17seconds. We are going to make it bros

Of course you wanna try to get past those requirements, I mean I can't even do two pull ups I know how fucked I am if I can't fix that shit but I appreciate the concern anon.

No true just checked. You make 2k a month in the military in exchange for your personal freedom and an unbreakable contract starting as enlisted, you're also salaried so you're working whenever they want however much they want. The food and housing is as cheap as possible obviously.

Meanwhile McDonalds here is 15$ an hour, that's 2.4k$ a month full time.

So yeah, you make more money working at McDonalds without any kind of long term contract or fundamental loss of liberty and don't need to be undertaking constant ritual humiliation.

Don't know about burgerland, but in Britain, your salary raises after first year, then again after first promotion. As for "working whenever they want", half the time you're training. Same shit you'd be doing if not in military. And the rest is either duties or personal time. This only changes if they need you, hence being salaried.

As for the food and housing being cheap as possible. Horse shit, go see the Eastern European conscript housing. Eat their food. There are good days and bad days for what's offered in the canteen, but it's arguably still better food than any of us actually cook ourselves.

Any recommendations for improving one's ability to pack march? (Ruck march for Americans)

Pack and adjust your ruck better and stop being a scrub mentally. Heaviest shit goes high and close to the body, centered and balanced. Physically make the pack small as fuck. They all have compression straps, tighten them until they just won't go any tighter and bias it to the top.
Use the adjusting straps to raise the height of the pack on your body. Every ruck march noob does this
      >ow my shoulders
      >yanks the straps at the top of the shoulder straps
      >loosens the bottom
      >:(
Correct answer is tighten the bottom and loosen the top. If your pack has an external frame you should see it peeking out over your shoulders when you stand in a mirror.
Sip water regularly. Just little sips every 300, 500m or so. Before a hill sip water.
Don't use the waist strap. It doesn't help and people drown with these when they fall in water. Use the chest strap.
Lean slightly forward at the waist.
Get proper footwear. There are socks made for this, also get orthotics for your boots, which should be tight as fuck.
The rest is just not succumbing to the bitch voice in your head

Why join military Sir? What is your motivation? I was from the Armed Forces (Royal Engineers; Sapper) for 6 years. Now I work for g4s guarding an office building doing mostly nothing during the night getting about 130 quid a 12 hour shift.
