yes, add to this that bodybuilders eat a very high amount of meat, eggs and other unhealthy food and you have the complete recipe for heart failure

Yeah, that's a GOOD THING moron. Ever heard of VO2 max training? That's where you go above 90% max heart rate so your heart GROWS IN SIZE and becomes more strong and effective.

Medgay here, the problem with an increase in myocard muscle wall thickness is that it reduces overall volume of the ventricule, especially left ventricule, increasing blood pressure and potentially causing a feedback loop where the increased pressure causes the heart muscle to grow again...problems then arise in conductivity and muscle fatigue, weakening the heart.

Surely it's easy to atrophy the heart a bit in that case

              Anonymous

Negative, because through an imaginary surgery that would result in an increase in ventricular volume combined with a decrease in ejection fraction (quantity of blood your heart is able to pump out of the ventricule), causing lifelong hypotension. Not really any non-surgical ways to atrophy the heart.

My dad has heart problems and he never touched a weight in his life.
In fact a huge portion of the population over age 50 has heart problems and they never lifted either.
But yeah, lets worry about the small portion of BBers who blast moronic doses plus run all kinds of other PEDS and recreational drugs too.

based on what? you do realize most Mr Olympia winners are still alive and well? most live to old age and stay in great shape, unlike the majority of elderly who look like droopy fat blobs by the time they hit 60-70.
    >inb4 Schwarzenegger had a heart surgery
had heart defect from birth, had operation for it 20 years ago, now got a replacement, still lived long while lifting
    >inb4 Ronnie Coleman is wheelchair bound
little to do with roids, rather lifting too heavy, traumas, and stupidly neglecting post-op recovery

lol many of them died and almost all had heart problems, Arnold included. Do you know 90% of the people has some form of heart defect that isn't a problem UNLESS they lift weights

Like who? Of the Mr. Olympias from the last 20 years only Shawn Rhoden died. Ramy, Curry, Heath, Cutler, Jackson, Coleman, Yates, Haney, Bannout all are alive. Dickerson died aged 82, Columbu died aged 78, Schwarzenegger is still kicking, Zane is 80 years old and still alive. Sergio Oliva lived until he was 71, the first Mr Olympia ever, Larry Scott lived 75 years.

Dying in your 70s is pretty normal. Plenty of non-bodybuilders die at a similar age. Why would you even want to live longer? Most people at that age are broken down and can't do shit. All they do is watch tv and wait for the kids to visit them once a month.

My grandpa is 85 still lives on his own with no care, still super mobile and social, and he can get up from sitting on the floor without using his hands.

Unless he has a fall or gets a bad infection he’s gonna keep chugging along well past 90.

Still enjoying his life, seeing family, doing things he likes, seeing friends, tending to his garden. Idk why people think past 70 you’re a dribbling mess.

Statistically your grandpa is in the geriatric elite. I have patients in long-term care facilities below the 70s. Imagine being 65 and requiring total care: unable to wash yourself, swallowing more pills daily than supplement gays, don't even know where you are because a stroke gave you dementia. That's what happens when you don't take care of your health.

Well it’s not like he hasn’t been taking preventative measures, he never went to the gym but he just kept active, kept stretching, swimming, the pool aerobics shit old people do, walks every day etc

His dad lived till lived till 98 and only died because he got moved to a home, then 2 months in wandered in the night fell, broke his pelvis and died of an infection in hospital. But other than apparently he was pretty sharp and also had no care till he got moved. Must be a genetic thing idk

Sergio Oliva was born in 1941. life expectancy of males born in 1941 was 63.1 years. 71 is just a little too early, when there's a lot of factors at play, and you cherrypick only a single worst example ignoring everyone else who lived longer.
i'd say 80 is already a very long life, past 80 you're very prone to become senile anyway and at that point you're one step away from being a walking ghoul. every extra year past 80 is just a gamble of random factors, from parkinsons to everything else.

Aging gracefully is a combination of diet/lifestyle/genes. I know a 91 year old man that still drives, still walks on his own, and is still mentally sharp. You can have excellent genes but if you eat trash and never exercise you’re going to age like shit. Drug use is also a huge factor. I don’t know of any alcoholics or drug addicts over the age of 80. This idea that it’s impossible to live a normal life past the age of 60 needs to die, it’s false.
