Training abs feel painful in a different, sharper more intense way than training any other muscle does. What the frick is up with that and does it go away once your abs get more developed

        >does it go away once your abs get more developed

100% a mobility/flexibility issue. Could be either genetic, i.e you have really short abdominal ligaments that strain at the bottom of ROM or environmental, i.e you just haven't stretched those frickers enough to handle any sort of load without tearing - hurting.
What you need to do is to highly isolated movements, both horizontal and lateral. Crunches/Leg Raises/Russian Twists at no waist, and get at current max depth of ROM and just stay there and sort of like massage your ligaments into stretching more and more by bouncing softly into the motion until it feels comfortable there. Then you keep going incrementally further, now adding weight at previous ROM depth, stretching to the next.
It's a high rep game anyway and the tighter you remain in ROM, the more snatched your belt line is going to look. Going for that taper.

You just need a stronger core. I do pic rel and don't have a problem with them. Other than the leg raises hurting my neck for some reason.

Would you lift if the results of lifting where invisible? You look the same as any DYEL, just much stronger. I sure as frick wouldn't.

I'd still include some lifting & other exercise but would have no incentive to move heavy ass weight.

I definitely would. Although I do enjoy the gains aspect to it as well. Often I find myself staring at my abs in the mirror for extended periods of time so maybe I’m just lifting for narcissism at this point

everything you listed could be true + spending 5 mins training abs per session and look even better. this is a moronic post.

Only train it with static holds. Serious warning unless you want to pay for hernia surgery. Leg raises might be fine but nothing on the floor or bench unless you're like sub 160lb so you weigh like a feather.

Why do people do planks for abs but never do any static hold type exercises for other bodyparts?
For example, I've never seen anyone do a bicep curl and then hold the bar in the most difficult position for a minute or anything like that.
    Anyone know the reason?

There seems to be an idea that the purpose of abs is to hold the abdomen straight against resistance rather than to actively bend it, which is supposedly harmful in some way when using a lot of strength. Not sure where this originates but it's popular broscience recently among youtube types.
I suppose it's pretty obvious other muscles are designed to move a joint against resistance so it's rare to consider normal weightlighting with a full ROM harmful for other muscles, but I think it has to do with bending the spine under a lot of stress. Holding-position exercises like planks do exist for most muscles, they're called isometrics.

do that static hold mid ROM with your arms at a 90 degree angle for 10 sec on your last rep of bicep curls, gains will be had

Your lifting babyweight if it feels worse to train than legs. Delts and lats are more aesthetic as well

I don't mind hitting the abs themselves. My problem is that every other abs exercise has my lower back working with sharp movement. The only abs exercise I can do comfortably are planks and hanging leg raises.
