        Its largely useless exercise. The machine is slightly better but cable flies are just trash junk volume that do nothing. I used the same weight with cables flies when I benched 80kg than I do now that I bench 140kg. My chest didnt grow at all when I was perma stuck spamming flies and doing stupid meme roider shit. But holy frick it exploded when I got from 2pl8 to 3pl8.

        I mean sure maybe my form is slightly better with the same weight than back then and maybe Im doing slower reps and more reps but still it's terrible for progressive overload and strength, thus its terrible for natural lifters. For roiders who benefit from just spamming and tearing the muscle and driving blood and then having 24/7 muscle protein synthesis with anabolic steroids running in your system, it's probably pretty decent. Although even for roiders its not a main stay, even though the likes Sam Sulek love "spamming" they are still strong as shit repping 4pl8 on the bench etc.

        Its one of those movements that appeal to beginners because you can "feel the pump" and "really contract the muscle" but thats not a good indicator for growth. You can really feel the pump and the muscle curling 5kg dumbbell at home playing video games for gorillion times and it wont do jackshit to your biceps.

          I just started doing machine flies, all my chest work up until this point has been flat bench, incline and to a much lesser extent dips, barbell or DB. 130kg flat bench.
          I want a low fatigue accessory for chest that isn't another press, so I picked flies. I'm on a AxBxCxDx full body split, I bench on A and C and barbell OHP on B and D so I got no room for more pressing. Feels pretty good so far, sick pump and I don't see how it's going to be a problem to just do a normal double progression.

          i don't get it. the movement gets blood to the pecs, gives a good pump, and provides loads of tension at the stretched position. what's not to like? it's textbook for hypertrophy

            He has dogshit genetics. His “bench” is entirely neurological adaptation, not that a sloppy 3 pl8 1RM warrants some type of authority or respect.               not him, but I can't feel my right pec at all on chest flyes. it doesn't do anything, doesn't get sore, doesn't grow, nothing. but it doesn't work on push exercises either. been this way since I tweaked my shoulder on bench years ago.

    You are likely protracting your shoulder blades and curling with your arms, retract your shoulder blades and keep the bent on your arms at the same angle through the movement without protracting your shoulders.
