My Grandpa was a commando. He was in wave 1 of D-day. Also did a bunch of other landings in Greece, Italy and Malta. I still have his medals.

My grandpa was a lumberjack in the Dinaric Alps during. He would survive lumbering in the winter by covering himself with pine tree boughs so he wouldn't freeze to death. When he was a BLIND 75 year old man, he could climb the 6 meter tall pine tree in our backyard with a saw and do maintenance on the tree bough so it grew properly. Smoked cigs since he was 13, died at 84 in his sleep. I look just like he did at my age, except he had a wife at my age, and i am a khhv. Love u grandpa.

    >maternal great great grandfather was able to grab a 50kg bag with one hand and lift it up to chest height to put it on the bar, also was an excellent wrestler who ran a club that produced a triple Olympian who also won Europeans three times
    >his son, my great grandfather, was Olympic weightlifting prospect for the 1920 games but ended up being too young
    >paternal grandfather once deadlifted 4plate with zero training or warming up when challenged by a powerlifting friend of his
    >maternal grandfather is a former national gymnastics champion, as was at least one of his siblings
    >both still alive and healthy - touch wood - despite turning 90 this year
    >father, two of his siblings plus several cousins all won Judo nationals in their teens

I started training Judo/wrestling/powerlifting far too late, but at least I hold the family deadlift record, medaled at nationals in two sports and have fought several Judo/BJJ world champions in training without losing. Thanks for the genetics, forebears, I owe you.

Healthier for body and mind doing this than having nothing to wake up for.

my grandpa drove log truck and then did highway trucking until he sold his company and trucks and retired. He would always loudly alert me if he saw any hindus (brown people/east indians) when we were out and about

That's crazy. My grandpa died from a gangrenous infection after stepping on a rusty machete while he was recovering bodies after an auschwitz breakout.

My grandpa was a wealthy businessman in Korea. Grew up in Japanese occupied Korea, was fluent in 4 languages, got separated from his family in the Korean war, etc. He even had a traditional mansion with a little house for the servants and everything. He lost it all somehow, and moved to America in the 70’s basically 100% broke. He always worked hard even until he died. Lived till 84 (stroke), despite never quite being able to quit smoking. Probably would have lived longer if he had proper care, but I’d say 84 is a good run. Rip grandpa.
