My mom said starving myself to lose weight won't work because my body will hold on to the fat. Is that true?

Dr Ekberg recommends eating one meal every other day if you're extremely obese to lose weight. It works. It's an extreme form of intermittent fasting. I definitely lose weight personally when i fast occasionally.

She may not know this, but she's right.
Sticking to a low-calorie diet will make you lose weight but you will relapse eventually.

Do intermittent fasting instead. 16 hours of fasting, 8 hour eating window.
When you're more advanced make it 21-3

How the frick do people lose weight with an 8 hour eating window? How fricking much do fat fricks eat in a day? Is it normally just a 24 hour marathon of shoving garbage in your face?

When we say 8 hours window, it doesn't mean stuff your face for 8 hours continually. It just means eating. For example if you fast from 8pm to noon, you completed a 16 hour fast. Then you can normally have lunch at noon, and dinner at 8pm, that's your 8 hours window, and then roll onto your next fast until next day at noon without any snacks.

Look up fasting. It works but you gotta have a plan

Yeah, you should only be in a slight caloric deficit. 500cal under your daily energy expenditure to lose 1lb of fat per week. Anything more than that and your body will lose muscle. Going significantly under your daily requirements and your body goes into "starvation mode" and stores everything you eat as fat.

Starvation is a normie meme parotted by boomers that can't be bothered to understand how insulin works. If you do CICO yes your body will want to retain the fat cause you will have high level of insulin throughout your day. You need to fast. Unless you're like 7%BF you will not enter starvation mode. Do IF minimum 20 hours, if you're an extreme fatty do multi day fasts. Refeed on a keto meal. Drink your snake juice. Here you go you have all the tools to succeed. Oh and BTW on your journey here if you see a schizo vegan telling you to eat carbs to lose weight, ignore him altogether. And don't tell anyone you're not eating, they're gonna do everything to prevent you from doing it.

not him, but what do you find strange about that post? it's very accurate. there's a reason for why fat people who eat a regular meal frequency with less food end up with lower BMRs after reaching a healthy weight than people who do intermittent or extended fasting to make the same deficit. yes, both are forms of CICO and will get you to lose fat but eating less food while having high insulin will lead to a different outcome than eating less with low insulin.

I hate you moronic frickers. Fasting is useless. There is no starvation effect. We've had countless experiments on this.
Here's how little insulin actually contributes:

fasting schizos are really something else.

If you just starve yourself, you will lose fat but you will also lose lots of muscle which will make you look skinnyfat. In a starved state, your body will utilize your muscle for energy much more easily than it does fat, and for your goals it is not great. Muscle helps fill out your figure in a way that makes you look hard and lean... even if you have a bit of fat on you, that muscle can poke up through it as well as give your frame a nice shape, which can decrease how "fat" you look even if you have not technically lost a lot of fat. I have a friend who was a bit overweight and lost almost all the fat by running all the time--- but he also lost all his muscle and now looks fat in another kind of way, like droopy, wilted, and soft. Not a good look. Better to be more active so you can gain muscle tissue while losing fat, all while being able to eat normally

you sound like a newbie, so I'm gonna let you in a on a secret. literally read the sticky and stick to CICO for at least 3-4 months. No cheating, no trying meme diets, not keto or intermittent fasting. After that time period and enough lurking, you should have enough info to progress forward with something more specialized. You wanna do keto/IF after shedding 7-8 pounds, 100% go for it, they work. DO NOT for the love of God get swept up in the tornado of horseshit that every homosexual paleoposter or whining keto worshipper creates, at least not until you've done some shit first

tl;dr: do CICO first, branch out into specific diets once you have a comfortable amount of knowledge
