MyFitnessPal Replacement

Well guys, MyFitnessPal is finally dead. Over the past couple of years the app has really gone to shit with a frick load of ads, a dreadful UI and now the barcode scanning function, arguably the most useful function of the app, is being moved behind the premium paywall (which currently costs $360/yr).

I've seen mention of Cronometer and LoseIt as half-decent apps for calorie/macro tracking. Anyone had much experience with these and, if so, how do you find them? Any recommendations, especially those that can link in with Garmin Connect, would be muchly appreciated.

I have my favorite but I don't advertise it so it doesn't become overcrowded and fricked like MFP. Don't like it, then suck a dick

Why would you even bother responding to this post?

Cronometer isn't bad - not sure if it links with Garmin though.

    >costs $360/yr
WTF. The only thing it was good for was barcode scanning. Then again now that I don't try to lie to myself about goyslop being healthy and started eating cleaner, I don't use it.

Yeah, that's AUD I think... But still.
All new users from September 1 have to pay. All existing users have to pay from October 1.

      >Moving a feature from free to Premium is never an easy decision. We know we’re going to disappoint some members (and we don’t take that lightly — we really like you!). But we also know that making this change will open doors for building even better features down the road, and allow us to continue to offer and maintain a free version of the app.

Hope they enjoy a steep decline in users.

Repeating a quote from an anon a while back, I wrote it down because it's never wrong:
        >Product/service price hikes and feature reduction announcements be like “while it was a difficult decision to frick your shit up, we ultimately powered through and made it happen"

        They just killed the company

Unironically, they will make 10x (at minimum) more income.
        >less people using, less servers, less bs
        >still collecting mass data to sell
        >now get legitimate, steady income source
        >if only 10,000 morons (out of 7+B in this world) buy yearly package.
        >~3.6M income
It's almost like they are trying to IPO or get bought out...

Look you're probably right. And they were bought from Under Armour in 2020 by a venture capital joint so it's likely they're trying to make it look super profitable in order to sell it.

Chronometer was always better unless you eat too much obscure goyslop that isn't searchable.

I currently use LifeSum but I don’t love it.

I would like a privacy focused app because I don’t want to feed the beast but haven’t looked too hard or found one. It’s like $20 / yr at discount so I’m running with that.

I’ll probably switch to pencil and paper next year.

Why aren't these apps offline? It should be a buy once kind of thing. I guess they don't make enough money on that. Maybe one problem with that is the food items need to be continuously updated? These apps are pretty simple why have nobody done it yet

theoretically, a barcode should always be the same for the same product, and (most of the time) changes in recipe will cause a change in barcode.
I think a reasonable model would be:
      >cache every barcode you scan/use, never redownload
      >if you're offline, just cache the barcodes and download the data while online

Don't update it so you keep the old version, if you did update just download an ealier akp

Not that anon, but it takes all of the guesswork out of calculating your tdee. You don't even need to log any exercise. It looks at how much food you're eating and your average weight change and spits out a calorie target that gets more and more accurate over time. Its the best tool for cutting and bulking imo

Yeah I used cronometer when I was wrasslin, it's cool, that was a few years ago though so idk if this has changed but sometimes their given nutrition info for a product differs from the label

Do any of these apps calculate your TDEE and tell you how much to eat to gain weight at a particular rate?

Garmin does and you dont need a watch to use any of the non watch features.

I've been using a cracked app so haven't noticed most of that stuff. But if it's going to be a server-side change I guess I'll be fricked from October.
Anyone used waistline (pic related)? It seemed like a pretty good clone last time I went trying a bunch of different apps, it just lacked the prebuilt (by users) database.

You damn kids and your phones and your apps.
Back in my day the whole family shared one phone on a cord in the kitchen and later that also was the internet, which we used on a computer in the living room with only half a gig of total memory and took ten minutes just to load a single still image. Best believe fappin was tougher then.
Now you got her Whatsapp installed when the phone already has a text function on it.
How about just use an excel sheet to calc your macros.
But no, you gotta have everything right now, you got yer Jared Leto take it slow song just going right into the lyrics, compare that to "bat out of hell" which had more instrumental intro than your whole song.
Nope, sure don't make em like they used to.

I use an app called Lifesum. Literally all it does is track calories and nutrients, but it has a barcode scanner built in that doesn't cost anything.

I just eat the same amount of food for a week and then check if my weight goes up or down, adjust the plan and repeat.

What kind of a braindead moronic american you have to be to need a fricking app to be fit?
Unironically have a nice day, you fricking mutt.
