        Take coffee for example. If you drink black coffee you are increasing your adrenaline, a stress hormone, it makes you feel "energized" (stressed) and you burn more calories.
        Burning more calories than you take in means your in a caloric deficit, burning fat and being in a catabolic state.
        If you take that same coffee and add some milk, cream or sugar in it, now you have something that stops the stress hormones and gives you real energy. But now you are in a caloric surplus, the anabolic state.
        So 0 calories and burning fat ARE NOT a boost to the metabolism, they are catabolic.
