        >I got my science degree without putting much actual effort in
        I have only met 2 geniuses in my life who could literally remember everything from a lecture, word for word. They never studied and go straight A's.
        But you sound too dumb to understand not everyone is a genius and actually need to spend time both reading and practicing. I highly doubt you are smart if you are blaming the lecturer. Literally every student who has blamed the professor was always someone who never did any work and couldnt figure out why their grades weren't good.

          Working memory is a skill that can be practiced actually. It involves practicing recollection skills and attentive listening skills during and right after a lecture. You can train your child that skill by giving them lessons and then quizzing them straight after, and if you are a good teacher, the kid will get gradually better at memorizing live speech in real time, and regurgitating it.
          You start with a 5 min lesson on a subject, then gradually increase time until they can sit through 1.5 hrs and easily go back to subject a.1.b.2.c at minute 22 of the lecture and recall to you the main points, the information etc.

          A good skill to also teach is information programming, for example you teach them how a lesson is structured, you instill in them the idea that there are usually main key points, you instill the bullet point format of perceiving information, say for example idea A, theory 1. theory 2. argument a. argument b. for theory too.
          Then if you drop for example a key point like ''what is naturalism'' they will quickly sort through the information tree, and retrieve information about it, main data points etc.

          That's the more theoretical approach although many kids will have different learning styles. But in the case of direct recollection it's mostly what I said. Attentive listening + direct recollection practice for working memory straight after the lesson, no time to read through the book again.

            >memorizing live speech in real time, and regurgitating it
            Yea thats not going to happen with complex subjects beyond the basic courses in college. You try fricking memorizing an entire lecture in P.chem or neuroscience(*grad course) just from listening. There is too much going on at one moment to even memorize everything within an entire event

              I did plenty of advanced chemistry classes without any practice. Both my 500 level organic and analytical chemistry courses were take home tests that had nothing to do with the material being lectured on. Probably can’t do that shit these days but 2005 was a different time.

          not him but a lot of professors are lifelong academics who merely teach classes because they have to, and do not try to hide that they don't give a shit about their undergrad students and if anything resent them for taking time away from their own research and graduate students

      I graduated with a lot of morons in electrical engineering though. To be fair, they were moronic compared to decent EE's, not compared to the general populace or even the general university populace. In my graduating class there was a clique of Egyptians+middle easterners that cheated their way through and I doubt they would have made it otherwise.

      Ironically I didn't give much of a shit about their cheating. I really only minded that they were annoying, on a personal basis.

    He achieved a goal in his 90’s. Impressive. I don’t care what the goal is, I kneel. So many old people quit striving decades before that point.

    I read a poem yesterday called Ulysses about this particular topic. Here are two relevant pieces:

    Much have I seen and known; cities of men
    And manners, climates, councils, governments,
    Myself not least, but honour'd of them all;
    And drunk delight of battle with my peers,
    Far on the ringing plains of windy Troy.
    I am a part of all that I have met;
    Yet all experience is an arch wherethro'
    Gleams that untravell'd world whose margin fades
    For ever and forever when I move.
    How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
    To rust unburnish'd, not to shine in use!
    As tho' to breathe were life! Life piled on life
    Were all too little, and of one to me
    Little remains: but every hour is saved
    From that eternal silence, something more,
    A bringer of new things; and vile it were
    For some three suns to store and hoard myself,
    And this gray spirit yearning in desire
    To follow knowledge like a sinking star,
    Beyond the utmost bound of human thought.

    'T is not too late to seek a newer world.
    Push off, and sitting well in order smite
    The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
    To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
    Of all the western stars, until I die.
    It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
    It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
    And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
    Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
    We are not now that strength which in old days
    Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
    One equal temper of heroic hearts,
    Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
    To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

      Do not get a degree.
      You have an advantage as a third worlder because your rents and cost of living is cheaper.
      You have an Internet connection; this means you can contact any rich American.
      Convince these rich Americans to give you money.
      Start a business, learn sales and marketing,offer solutions to people.
      It is not easy but you can definitely do it if you dedicate for 3 years.
      It's the same as the gym, you will not see improvements until you start actually doing hard work for months and months.
