Has anyone ever used one of these? I know they fall under the category of stupid "manly" memeshit but I recently started a job where I have to be clean shaven every day and I run through a normal razor every day or 2, and the blades for these are way cheaper in the long run. If they are shit does any other anon have tips for saving money when shaving daily?

I use one to clean up under my neck, I use the moustache and shadow look coz I have killer facial hair genetics and a jaw line.
If you keep fresh blades in them you're fine, and they'll last a week give or take depending on how coarse your facial hair is.
Dry shaving/with warm water is how men do it.

Imagine being such a shit for brains jackass you “tear your face the frick up” with something called a safety razor. This is just a small step above somehow managing to cut yourself with those plastic kindergarten safety scissors.

      I use them.
Cutting yourself is a skill issue, and it's never serious just small cuts that stops bleeding by themselves within minutes. I only cut myself nowadays when I am reckless and too fast.
Didn't take me long at all to get decent at using them, and I managed a good enough shave without really cutting myself the first time too.
Blades are cheaper, but for me it's more that they give a better shave in general plus way less irritation. I used to get shave burns everywhere and pimples and shit when using a machine or "normal" razor, rarely get it with these.
It's also very nice to spend a little extra time grooming yourself, and when you buy this stuff you're probably also going to buy nicer shaving cream, and an aftershave lotion.
Ofc your experience will vary with what kind of blades you use. I use the Japanese brand "Feather", very sharp and they are good for 6-10 shaves before I switch them out. You notice when you have to switch when it feels like you're lugging your beard. Easier to cut yourself when they are dull too. Also easier in general to shave yourself frequently when growth is still short rather than letting it grow out. I go 3 days max wax without shaving.
I also only use cold water when shaving.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Oddly enough the best set of boxer-briefs I’ve ever bought. Other big name brands never sized right. These do. Cups your balls like a lover’s hands.
Feel free to laff at the product and continue to be a poorgay who shaved his balls with the same razor that gets his neckbeard. Or maybe you’re somewhat more intelligent and just bought two of the same drugstore shavers you bought when you needed to replace your neckbeard trimmer so you didn’t get jock itch on your chin-folds (again).

      Attention Anons,

I feel compelled to make an announcement regarding the Manscaped ball shaver. Many of you may have heard of this product, which is marketed as the ultimate tool for achieving smooth and silky balls. However, after trying out a friend's Manscaped ball shaver on my own hand hair, I can confidently say that it does not live up to its claims.

As someone who has always been interested in personal grooming, I was excited to try out the Manscaped ball shaver. I had heard so many positive things about it from friends and online reviews, and I was eager to see what all the fuss was about. However, after using it on my hand hair, I was disappointed to find that it did not provide the smooth and clean shave that it promised.

I want to be clear that I am not writing this announcement to discredit Manscaped or their products. I am simply sharing my own experience in the hopes of providing valuable information to other Anons who may be considering purchasing this product. While I cannot speak to its effectiveness on actual ball hair, I can say that it did not work on my own hand hair, which was much less coarse than typical ball hair.

It is important to remember that not all products work for everyone, and that personal grooming is a highly individualized practice. What works for one person may not work for another, and it is important to keep this in mind when making purchasing decisions. Ultimately, the best way to determine whether the Manscaped ball shaver is right for you is to try it out yourself.

I want to reiterate that the Manscaped ball shaver did not provide the smooth and clean shave that it promised when I tried it out on my own hand hair. While this may not be indicative of its effectiveness on actual ball hair, it is important for Anons to be aware of this information when considering purchasing this product. As always, I encourage Anons to do their own research and make informed decisions about their personal grooming practices.

voskhod blades are PTFE coated, not platinum. I like astra because while they're not as lethally sharp as feathers, they are smoother and as such produce a cleaner shave with less nicks. they also last a bit longer so you can get 2 or 3 shaves in before changing blades. this type of shaver would save you a lot of money compared to the "usual" razorblades
but it can be difficult for a beginner to nail the technique without cutting yourself up badly

id recommend at least watching a tutorial before your first time and dont buy wireless beardtrimmers
and make sure youre able to replace trimmer blades and taking it off for cleaning them up

also you would save up even more long term by having a shaving knife for detail work on beards
and therefor, less taxing on the blades you put in this one in your picture

+1 for these, can confirm that they are folded 1000x nippon steel blades.

They're genuinely super good though, I've been using them for years.

Btw does anyone know how you're actually supposed to dispose of used razor blades? I put them in that little slot in the bottom of the blade container, but it feels so wasteful to throw them in the trash. There's gotta be some kind of recycling scheme, right?

The body literally doesn't matter. Just get a decent safety and experiment with a sample blade pack and find out what work's best on your skin. I only use Feather blades because they give me the cleanest cut, but I have ultra sensitive skin. You have to be really fricking careful and methodical. It's more about the blade type for your skin and the ritual of preparing the shave properly with the right soap/cream. Don't fricking fall for internet business products. Man, I buy a 3 blade disposable cartridge and it lasts me for like 1 year. I just never throw it away. Does it stay sharp, obviously not, but it doesn't need to be sharp enough to cut through a stone to get some hairs off of my face

You must be blessed with terrible facial hair genetic then. My facial hair is about a milimeter long by the next morning and is thick as shit, I can have an ice cube style beard in about 3-4 days (white). If I used a regular cart razor for a year it would be as sharp as a marble

A safety razor is one of the very few things out of the le manly grooming scene that is actually worth it, I got one because disposable razors irritated the shit out of my skin and these helped a lot, alongside with blades being a lot cheaper overall than buying disposable razors after you use them up. It also gives you a closer shave, which is nice.

I can't imagine how much money I've saved by switching to safety razors over meme-ass cartridges, but since I don't shave every day and just recently bought my second 50-pack of blades in several years it's easily one of the best investments I've made. I've probably spent more on shaving cream than blades at this point just because they're so cheap. I also use them for my dick and balls once I think a blade is done, I've had zero issue with cuts or ever feeling like I'm gonna cut something vital.

Use feathers for my face, and voskhod for my dick, balls and pubes. Voskhods aren't extremely sharp, yet are also smooth. Pretty comfortable when shaving the junk actually. You really have to learn which way the grain goes for a smooth shave, and every guys grain pattern is different.

You will need to adjust to shaving with the safety razor. Lathering and holding a proper angle is important, the disposables do this for you. Yes you can slice yourself if you go sideways... don't. I shave my dick and balls just fine with a safety razor.

I have one. I use it pretty regularly. I bought it because I wanted to reduce the waste I produce and the idea of leaving little plastic cartridges around for 9000+ years so I could shave my sack kinda chafed.

I used to get really bad ingrown hairs when I used a Gillette or whatever and I don't with this. It was tough to learn how to use because there's really just one sharp ass blade, but now that I've figured it out, I genuinely prefer this.

Also it's way cheaper in the long run. A box of like ten trillion blades is $20 or whatever, while five Gillette cartridges is like $30.

I have very sensitive skin and I've tried every single method of shaving, and honestly nothing beats a good electric razor. You might snag a few hairs which can be annoying, but the shave you get and how quick and easy it is makes it an unbeatable option. The safety razor is good if you take the time to learn it properly, but it's still easy to miss little bits and you have to do quite a few passes to get a close shave if you can't go against the grain like me. Disposable razors are fricking shit, even the best ones frick my skin up or cut me.

If you don't need a super close shave the Philips one blade is the only razor you'll ever need, I just keep a short stubble almost all the time now using the 1mm or 3mm comb, which means I also barely ever have to change the blade.

  45. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

I have used these for the last 7 years, including three in the military.
But it's two passes minimum to get the same shave you get from plastic shit. It takes longer.
I will say that they're gentler after you get over the learning curve. Literally no razor burn the last 6.75 years. I recently started using a certain major cartridge razor and it saves me time in the morning but it's a rougher shave.

You should use the shaving foam instead of gel. I've found that the gel tends to stick to the blade and make it impossible to shave without constantly cleaning the blade. I recommend taking a shower or washing you face with hot water prior to shaving. It makes it considerably easier.

Mostly a IST question tbh. But yes, double edges razors are amazing. If you are looking for the closest shave, then this it. However, it is a learning curve. You need to do short strokes and really pay attention to the shape of your face to prevent yourself from cutting the skin. A main reason why I switched years ago was due to cost like you. The razor blades are fricking expensive now than before, but way cheaper than disposable razor blades still. Also keep in mind that different razor blades for these can vary in sharpness.

    Straight razor:

    >blades are dirt cheap

    Safety razor:
    >easier to use, harder to frick yourself up
    >no ingrown hairs
    >blades are cheap
    >clean shave but not a terribly close shave, usually takes two passes to get nothing but smooth skin

    Disposable:
    >no pros, only cons
    >designed to be unusable after a single use
    >enjoy pissing money away forever instead of getting new blades for literal pennies

    Electric:

I have both Straight and Safty razors. Overall safty is easier to use but you need to use one blade. With straight razor you only use have of the blade unless it's a old school sharpening one. It requires much more practice and time to be good in straight razor. Overall I would advise to use the safty razor as it has minimal learning curve and you can give yourself a shave much faster

Using one for the last 15 years. They work as lon as you know how to use it correctly. The blades are a bug thing. I always use Japanese Feathers as I find them to be the sharpest and my hairs are thick. Use shaving soap never the foam. Soap has more fat and creates a better surface when shaving. Almost impossible to cut yourself. Also use hot water. Hotter is better but not so hot that you would burn yourself when you put a hot razor to your face. Always go with the hair not against it.

I've been using one for 2 years and they're a great investment, you'll save plenty of money as well. If you're unsure as to what razors to get you buy a sample pack and just try different brands until you settle on one, they're all a little bit different and that's kind of part of the fun I think.
The first few times it will feel a bit strange but in no time you'll just "get it". Yeah it feels more "manly" or whatever but if that's the reason you're doing it you're falling for the "masculinity as a product" scam like other anons have already brought up.

I have a highly sensitive neck, always either got irritation and ingrown hairs or a crap shave, hasn't been an issue since I got this. Having a safety razor is only cringe if you make a big deal out of it, it's simply a practical way to shave. Makes flying a slight pain in the ass though, have to check the blades or procure on destination.

Been shaving for 10 years with a safety razor, mostly for saving money but now I like it so much I won't want to go bad.

First, any cheap safety razor from AliExpress will do ($10). You can buy 100 quality safety razors for around $15 on eBay (I use Astra).

First time shaving you need to make face good wet and be royal with the shaving cream. A lot of onions boys will tell you to but expensive shit etc. It's all a même.

Adding my shit to the shit pile:
I use one as my daily shaver. 1) They take longer than hell to use vs. disposable razor, 2) you have to have good technique to get an even shave. I still use it because it's cheap as HELL compared to disposable razors and I have like 3-4 soaps of different scents that I use so I can swap between then depending on what I feel like. If you shave every day/every other day it becomes ez mode and is as easy as a safety razor to get a good shave. If you wait several days until you have longer hair it becomes a nightmare shave scenario, so as long as you shave frequently it will be a pleasant experience.
I still have disposable razors for travel because frick taking a brush + razors + soap + the handle.

I use them exclusively ever since that moronic Gillette commercial and I'm glad they pushed me away. I have sensitive skin and this doesn't rip my neck apart any worse than normal razors but is like 1% the price. You could get several years worth of razors for like $5. The only thing is that unlike all those multi blade razors, you shouldn't be doing long drags but rather short strokes. It takes a while to get used to the angle as well.

Ignore all the "Durr it's manly consumerism" brainlets, safety razors are the exact opposite because they're still convenient but cost a small fraction of what multi blade razors do.

Understand that you should use no pressure unlike with a modern razor, Acknowledge that you are too moronic to handle that and will cut yourself a few times getting used to it.

I only use those. Electric itritates my skin. If they're a faux manliness thing now then it's unrelated to the fact that they work best.

I use one. I like it because everything else gives me shaving bumps (even electric razors). They are good for guys with sensitive skin and are really cheap. The key is finding good quality blades. I use Derby blades, but I recommend getting a variety pack online to try a few out (a lot of people like feather). I bought a bulk pack that I've been using for the last couple of years. I will use a blade for a whole week before changing it.

When I didn't have a beard i really enjoyed it. The savings in blades alone was worth it just to say frick you to the brand name razors. You definitely need to learn to go slow and manage the amount of pressure you use otherwise you just slice your face off.

But everyone younger than me I have met struggles to grow facial hair. Legit I don't think I've seen anyone younger than 25 with a solid beard in about a decade. Shits weird man.

they don't "hang around awkwardly". the pins are tight enough to hold in place and help you grip the razor

I use pic rel and it's pretty good. It's way cheaper and easier than replacing dumb Gillette heads every few weeks too.

My experience with it has been good. First time I used it I had small, surface level, cuts everywhere. You have no idea how sharp those blades are until you've actually used them. You get the jiff of it pretty quickly though, and you'll learn when to apply appropriate pressure, how to angle it and where to do so.

All in all it's been a great experience and I couldn't recommend enough, even though the first days are a bit of a learning curve.

Old fashioned safety razor? They’re great. I used bic two blade disposable razors for years but switched. Don’t get the shitty as seen on tv version. Expect to pay about $25 burger dollars for it including the razors. Make sure it’s shut tight and keep the shaving strokes light and even.

  87. 1 year ago

I have bad skin. Using one of these basically changed that. I'll never go back to disposable razors and these are way cheaper. I got one of those Viking blade ones. Using it a couple months and I'm still using the same razor from the first day. Shave is better as well. Takes maybe once or twice to get the shave right.

I used to use one of these back when I cared about a very close and smooth shave. They last forever (still have mine) and the fact that you can take it apart means you can completely clean the blade after, making the blade last much longer, just make sure you dry it off completely. It's mainly rust that makes blades go bad.

      Anonymous

The "disposable" razor is literally designed to be hard to clean so it wears out faster and you have to buy more. Also, you can sharpen these by rubbing them on a pair of jeans. They basically last until they physically break.

  90. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

No one cares about them being shilled whichever way. They're way cheaper than cartridge razors with only a mild amount of additional skill necessary to use.
Straight razors have next to no costs beyond the buy-in, but I found the maintenance on the razor to be mildly inconvenient enough that I'd rather pay for safety blades.

I use them exclusively. So much cheaper. But it takes practice to learn.

Pro tip: instead of using the soap that foams up with the brush, just get Barbasol and apply to face. Then slap on some hot water to make your fave wet and use the blade. Comes off easier if your face is wet and hot. It’s messy but cheap and works well.

  96. 1 year ago

It's not magically high performance like homosexual redditors make it out to be, but they're just as good as disposables if not better, easier to clean between swipes, and most importantly a fraction of the cost. I never really noticed any difference in technique compared to disposables, just run it down your face.

Straight razors are a meme, shaving soap is a meme, and even specific brands are a meme, just get a safety razor that's not total chinkshit.

you might have sensitive skin, go with a proper shaving knife and make sure to go with a proper cream
before going in with the knife so that your strands have already become soft from applying hot water
and with the applied cream over your skin that gets applied properly with the brush

remember that youre more prone to cuts and rash when blades deteriorate,
investing in a proper knife that you would need to sharpen yourself would never have that problem

a knife that you arent constantly replacing blades on is also so much more easy on your wallet too

This was basically me for 6 months until I got a proper soap (arko and cella are dirt cheap), a cheap boar brush and started making a proper lather. Use plenty of soap and water and face lather to save time. Protip: shave in the shower for a few weeks since your face stays damp and is easier to lather up and maintain moisture in the lather. Once you've figured out the lather you can do it out of the shower again.

      >Blades last only a week, but I can get cartridge razors to last a month, so the cost isn't really that bad for me.

If you have a good soap (cella/arko) and any good brush you'll be fine. I have a Simpsons Trafalgar T3 which is cheap and gets the job done. Don't even need a bowl, face lather works well. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but a slick wet lather is ideal, shaving in the shower gets the moisture/humidity perfect if you're looking for a reference point.
        Good luck!

What's the best kind of brush my dudes? I see badger a lot. What about boar, or synthetic. Of all the furry animals why badger?

nta. A brush and bowl are nice to have but you don't need to spend a ton of money on it. Badger hair brush and an old coffee mug will do the trick. I use Williams shaving soap. Sometimes I'll use shaving oil (usually jojoba) but it makes cleaning the razor a pain. Also, what feather blades do you use? I want to switch over from Derby, but I noticed feather has a couple options.

Cool I didn't know shaving oil was a thing. I didn't know there was different feather blades. I just bought some from Amazon, I'm actually kinda worried they may be fake

          Anonymous

          >Synthetic
I use a synthetic because it dries quickly, is durable and requires no maintenance. I mentioned it earlier in this thread, Simpsons Trafalgar T3. I've been using it every day for the last year and a half, will probably get another 5 years out of it minimum.

          >boar brush
This was my first brush. Boar bristles are what traditional European barbers used. Omega makes good brushes. The bristles start off being very stiff and require soaking in before the shave and take a few weeks to months to break in. Very durable and cheap though.

          >Badger
Not used a badger brush because it can be expensive to buy a good quality one. Simpsons Chubby Badger brush is reputable but expensive. These are supposed to lather well and hold water well, although you do need to look after them as the bristles can fall out/be damaged without maintenance. That's all I've heard about them, maybe some anons who actually own and use them can give you more accurate insights than that.

          >Feather blades
These are good consistent and super sharp blades, but they don't necessarily suit every skin type or razor combination. It's worth trying out other (ideally non-Gillette) brands like Personna, Asco, Lord, Rapira etc. These blades might not be sharp, but may be smoother and cause less irritation.

      >NEVER use canned shaving cream

      >dont use aftershave/balm that contains alcohol if you cant handle it
      >if your razor is not aggressive enough and sharper blades don't do the trick, try shimming it instead of putting pressure on your skin
biggest mistake most men do is not using an alum block. also personally i found that i get zero irritation if i shave with cold water. if i shave after showering or when heating up my face i get irritated skin. also it seems that proraso soaps are the ultimate off-the-shelf-one-size-fits-all shaving soaps. i tried some heavily scented soaps like taylor of old bondstreet, but found that some irritate my skin.

Cold water will tighten the skin possibly stopping it from getting caught by the blade. Hot water usually loosens and allows for a deeper shave if u pull tight enough but either way it's going to be stubble in 2 days anyway so who gives a shit

Rockwell 6S reporting in. My first safety, I got it because it's adjustable and I didn't know what kind of angle is good on my face. I want a Feather AS-D2 now to go with the og Feather blades I use. Anyone have either of these razors that can give a review?

      Anonymous

Before you try the Feather AS-D2, do consider just getting an all brass vintage Gilette Tech off eBay for a fraction of the cost. This is the razor that the AS-D2 was based off of and once I got it I had no desire to buy the Feather. It works perfectly with the feather blades, winning combination.
Having said that, anything beyond a good quality razor like the Rockwell you have is diminishing returns, unless you want to collect razors or something.

        Anonymous

Yeah I'm not sure why I want the as-d2 really, just looking for the ultimate shave I guess lmao. Thanks I'll stick with the S6. Can you tell me anything about the shave angles on it? I use 5 daily because my hair is thick but I get small cuts on my neck when I do the against the grain part. I'm wondering if I should be using a lower number when doing against the grain (this is where the as-d2 could come in handy)

          Anonymous

Yeah I was in the same boat in wanting the ultimate shave. The best advice I can give is dial down the technique, optimise your lather and experiment with different blades too.

I don't have the Rockwell, but I have similar razors that are adjustable. From my experience, the angle doesn't change as much as the amount of blade exposure. If you're getting cuts on your neck, consider shaving at a very shallow angle, with reduced pressure and going with and across the grain before going against the grain.

Pesonally, I've stopped going against the grain altogether because there's more likelihood of getting cuts when you're in a hurry in the morning.
I do one pass with the grain and another pass across the grain. After these two passes I have a feel around my face and it will feel like stubble. Just remember that your hair "expand" slightly when wet, so when I dry my face it's actually pretty damn smooth. Definitely enough to last a full work day. When I was autistic about getting a baby smooth finish I would end up with a lot more cuts because by hair is really coarse. Not saying it can't be done by the way, just that it takes a lot longer and a lot more care to avoid cuts.

Also don't make the mistake that I did and try and buy more razors to fix the technique. I went through a phase of buying vintage razors, but now I have a collection of 6 razors out of which the only ones I use are a Gillette Tech and Gillette Fatboy, both made of all-brass and from the 50's. Mind you, the Tech cost me 10 dollars and the Fatboy cost me 70 dollars so I didn't exactly break the bank .

Solid advice ty. I just put cream on my wet hands and mush it around before smearing it on my face. It gets dry half way through and that's an issue. I'll look into getting one of those little brushes and bowls

While being expensive at first, you could do what i'm doing right now. I'm shaving with regular safety razors, additionally i use a hair removal laser on my face. It burns the hair follicels, making them unable to produce more hair. This only works if you have hair that isn't blonde though.

The goal is to have no facial hair at all and maintain this with lasering once a week to prevent growing hairs back

Would recommend Cremo. It's not a foamy shaving cream like you might be used to, but it works really well and it's insanely economical for the price. You need very little in order to fully take care of your face + whatever else.

Just to give an idea of how long that stuff lasts, I shave my neck around once per week and my chest about once every two weeks, and a "90 Day Supply) of that stuff lasts me roughly a year each time. Back when I was shaving my face ~twice per week, a "90 day supply" probably lasted around 7-8 months.

Based cremo enjoyer, Costco sells a 4 pack of those for 12 bucks, easily lasts me a year of daily shaving. Not quite barber quality but pretty damn close. Smells great, too. All I need now is to find an equally affordable, quality razor

    >stupid "manly" memeshit
Buying a shave club and underwear subscription is manly meme shit.
People look down on DE razors because marketing tells them you're not doing your part in keeping up with the Joneses and endangering our economic success.
They are simple, they work, they're barely more dangerous than 7 blade hyperglide thingamajigs, the razor itself will outlast your children and the blades are dirt cheap to boot.

Just start with sensible blades like persona instead of jumping straight to a 100 pack of feathers because some homosexual here is going to recommend them. Learn to move the razor in straight lines, reposition with distance to skin, not sliding sideways, navigate the contours of your face.
    Not rocket science.

I just use an electric razor, not as close as a "real" razor, but super convenient and way faster, since you don't have to use shaving cream or lather your face. Every 5 years or so I just buy a whole new one for $60 or $70. Never replace the blades or foils.

Is alcohol in aftershave REALLY an awful and terrible thing?

      SwedishBrorsan

why would you put alcohol in an aftershave / beard oil or anything related to skin or hair in the first place ?

it dries out skin, a strong variable for speeding up aging and is like the reverse effect of moisturizers,
im curious what happened with all these salt water sprays and shit and how good/bad it actually was

        Anonymous

I get that it can, but I feel like the drying part applies mainly when used in excess.

It must have had some value for post-shaving if they kept using it for decades and decades

          SwedishBrorsan

or maybe it was just plain lack of knowledge ? idk.. maybe someone else than me is more well versed with the effect of alcohol on skin..
perhaps it was a reason to keep your skin clean to desinfect if barbers in the past wasnt always capable of cleaning their tools to groom
their customers or something.. I might be completely off the rails in ohio here but who knows

It's good, I have oily skin and keeps my skin at a pretty good level. If its dry just apply a little moisturizer right after. Alcohol also kills bacteria and keeps the acne away for me

I used them whole my life, mainly because I'm a cheap gay and they cost way less than the multiblade disposable ones. I cut myself a few times pretty bad, but that was because I was a moronic teenager, I haven't had a problem with them in last ten years. They work fine, I'd recommend at least trying them.

I've been using one of these for years. Definitely worth it but you have to take the time to adjust. You NEED to use much less pressure than a cartridge or you will cut yourself, let the weight of the razor do the work. I have very sensitive neck skin so a safety razor like this gives me less skin irritation bc of the single blade and cheaper blades with a closer shave.

I recommend taking a hot shower first, and then applying a good shaving cream with a brush to your face. It'll take a little longer this way but you'll be safer for it.

Realize that there are different grades of razor blades. I use BIC blades which are a moderate-low level of sharp but still much better than a cartridge, especially for sensitive skin.

Be careful and take your time doing it

I use a muhle r41 (open comb, closed comb didn't get good results with my thick hair). It's not as good as mach3 but it's decent enough and much much cheaper.

just shave every three days or something

Shave your neckbeard and use an electric trimmer. That usually works to give a stubble-esque look. If you want genuine stubble, you just have to shave every few days.

Safety razor + plastic razor if I want super smooth. My beard hair is thick as frick and always pulls with the plastic razor no matter how much showering and lathering I do. I let it grow and use the safety razor to take the bulk off and a gilette or whatever the frick it is to clean up the impossible-to-get-smooth bits.

It's a good kind of different.

Everyone's face is different. And fricking stupid.

41 here, switched to this style 6 years ago. the morons saying it tore their face up are... guess what? moronic.

This is the most un-cucked way of shaving. Buy a $10+ USD razor once. Buy a $5-15 pack of dozens or a hundred blades. You're literally set for years. Best shave of my life.

The alternative? Being an absolute fricking moron buying the shit at the grocery store or supermarket every fricking month over and over like an absolute 0 IQ dipshit. For a worse shave!

I got one about 10 years and haven’t looked back.

Always avoided shaving as I’d get razor burn -> acne. Looked in shaving techniques. And no longer get and irritation as I only pass once.

Also, so much cheaper, I bought some Russian Voshod blades for about £20 and it’s lasted years

      Mitchells wool fat

I'm going to be contrarian here and tell you that if you do this, don't buy feather blades right away. I feel that a lot of people who start off see guys that have been using them for a while talking about how sharp they are and go all in on them when they don't even know how to hold the safety razor and frick their faces up, and then go on to say it's worse than an electric. Buy some turkish derby blades as starters, they're like half the price of feathers, but a bit less sharp which may seem like a bad thing but it will prevent you from fricking your face up when you don't quite know how to hold the damn thing yet.

This, feather can be very irritating depending on the skin type. Shark and Voskhod are a good smooth blade as well

I just ordered one yesterday and I will report on it if this thread is still up.
I was also concerned about the meme status of double edge razors, but I have sensitive skin and I heard they were better than cartridge razors.
That and the cost savings convinced me to switch.
I also switched to cream that squeezes from a tube. It doesn't dry the face like canned foam and isn't as much work as soap and brush.
That said there are some serious shave autists out there who spend a lot of money, have mutiple razors, etc.

      >That said there are some serious shave autists out there who spend a lot of money, have mutiple razors, etc.
Thankfully they are the vocal minority, especially online. There are far more people I know, IRL and online, who just have the one razor, a few blades and brush. They use that everyday because they have to shave for work and don't buy into the "le epic manly old timey peaky blinders shave culture"

They're actually great because you get more precision and save a lot of money. The reason they fell out of favor in the 70s is that they require a bit more skill to know the right angle to hit the skin at whereas modern razors are easy as frick to use.

I've been using a cheap one off of amazon for years and it's great. I should probably change blades more often but shaving 3-4x a week I can use one blade for about a month and get a good shave.
Only downside is I keep nicking my adam's apple but that's a problem with other razors too.

cant you pinch your skin and pull your skin only just enough towards any direction where you have enough room for your knife/razor to do the work ?

Make sure u sterilize the blade each time, can cause acne just from bacteria but otherwise good on ya. I prefer changing the blades for my face and then using the old ones on armpits or places where I dont care as much

I've used one for a while whenever I want a clean shave. They work well if you follow the steps to make them effective.

    >Wet your face beforehand
    >Lather your face with some Shave Butter
    >Use the razor
    >Rinse off
    >Use some form of facial cleanser
    >Rinse off and dry.
    >Use the facial cleanser again the following morning or the the next time you shower post workout, whichever comes first.

It typically results in a good clean shave with minimal acne.
