actual downside? you have permanent fricking ink your fricking skin forever, and removing it is painful and a b***h of a process.

This is literally it, a handful of autists on a basket-weaving forum will ree, few things trigger the ISTizen as hard for some reason
Do whatever the frick you want

My recommendation is to put them somewhere you can hide while wearing a polo
Sleeves look good, but significant opportunity cost depending on the job you want. Wearing a v-neck tee when you go out to show juuust a bit of a chest/shoulder piece for instance is a good tease

        > But people won't see them as much what's the point
You doing this to please other people or because you like it?

Another good test is to settle on one - precise location and design - then wait 2 years to see if you still want it. Patience beats laser surgery

People are constantly changing, both physically and in ideals, what you may think is good know may make you feel embarassed at a later date. Do not get something permanenly grafted onto your body.

        Anonymous

Because those people are right. When they see your cringy celtic "tat" they aren't thinking "wow, he must be a tribal warrior". You are not a sailor, you are not a gangster, you are not a rock star, you were never in the marine corps, you are a middle class suburbanite trying to look edgy.

        >What is the actual downside
What is the upside? Why bother in the first place? Your choice in a permanent tattoo says a lot about you, and not always what you want others to glean from it.

Maybe a tattoo just says you are a fun loving guy, that you had great times at concerts and shit, I suppose that is not out of the ordinary in the modern world. It depends on the tattoo I guess.

          Anonymous

why do you assume that everyone else is a middle class suburbanite? You could be right about some but not everyone has to fit into your narrow worldview to get a tattoo. I personally don’t think you should get shit that doesn’t suit you for obvious reasons. Like don’t get a sailor backpiece if you’ve never been on a boat. But beyond that who gives a frick? Imo there’s just not many tattoos that suit middle class suburbanites, but that’s a far throw from being everyone in the world m8

        >What is the actual downside besides some people thinking you look stupid?
Everyone will think you look stupid and degenerate. One downside example: it will hurt your career options. I have real-world experience with this. It is a fad that you are going to permanently mark yourself with. Tattoos are for the weak and weak minded LARPing as badasses.

This is exactly the homosexual shit they said in the 20th century that caused everyone to want to get tattoos. If you hate them so much you might want to stop doing it to today's kids too.

        Anonymous

The people who originally had tattoos were generally established as killers: tribal warriors, yakuza, soldiers, sailors and the like. Fashion styles for men tend to emulate killers. The neck tie comes from the cravat that the Cossacks wear, aviators, bomber jackets, blacks wearing faux bulletproof vests, etc. The tattoos are heavily diluted by literal homosexuals and women having them. They literally convey the opposite of what you want them to.
Also, getting a tattoo "because you like it" is as disingenuous as women saying they wear makeup for themselves.

could ramble on about this forever but basically don’t worry what other people think about you man, make yourself look however you want

tattoos are all about building mythos or lore about your self.

and it's way too easy to look like a tribal douchebag or any other butthole trying to look hard with a sleeve.
that thought process is crucial way before even the actual act of getting it inked into your skin.

Not sure why people ITT and maybe in general make out tattoo as bigger deals that they are. Will you get bored with it while its permanent on your skin, sure, but so what? Also lets not forget that some people actually have a story and meaning behind their tattoos so this "Stockholm syndrome" thing doesn't really apply to them, only if you do it because you think it's cool and trendy then yeah maybe rethink and don't rush it

I can tell you with 100% scientific accuracy that having a tattoo is tell tale sign that the patients IQ is <100.

Its going to be as part of yourself as the tshirt you put on this morning, except you can never take it off, the thought of someone else imprinting their own artistic interpretation or identity on me is repulsive

      Anonymous

Sometimes I think you people fear it so much you spend your lives trying to find being cucked in any activity. You pay them for a service, you tell them what to do. You choose the artist, you choose what you want. You alter the design as much as you want. You don’t just go to some moron and submit your skin to them. Its not as disposable as a t shirt obviously. It’s permanent. You pay someone to permanently alter your body. It’s adding something of choice, by your own choice to your body. It’s your fault if you decide to get a t shirt graphic on your skin. Nobody cares if you don’t get tattoos but it’s just not the same thing as deciding to put a permanent t shirt on. Even if everyone on earth got significant tattoos of high quality there would still be a massive group of people who disagree with it regardless

          Anonymous

if you commission an artist who will do whatever you want I don’t see how that’s you being cucked somehow. Every aspect of your life was designed and created by someone else, sometimes, well, more often than not, multiple people. You’re basically being cuck gangbanged from all angles at all times in your view. I definitely think it’s a spergy and objectively wrong to think that way. I’m no armchair psychologist but in a friendly way don’t you think that speaks more about your own insecurities than being a problem with tattoos?

            Anonymous

Yet an artist may frick up, or have some artistic freedom of some sort because that’s how they work, they make desicions based on your instructions but in the end you’re not making it all yourself unless you design it and tattoo it on your own.
You keep mentioning the meme word, I’m simply repulsed by someone putting their own interpretations or style on my skin, and as you’ve already mentioned we are always influenced all the time and is more reason I’m not going to feel pressured to accept it for myself.
            >insecurities
Does giving into social acceptance not stem from insecurity as well? I’ve been asked enough times why I don’t have tattoos and they always try to convince me to get one like theirselves.
To me, getting a one feels like taking someone else’s artwork and pretending its your own, or using your skin to display someone else’s work

              Anonymous

I mean a guy installing your boiler could frick up and blow your house up killing you and your children but that would be ridiculous cause he does it all day every day. The bus driver could crash the bus etc.

genuinely no I don’t feel like I’ve given into social acceptance at all. I dont really socialise a whole lot anymore and I’ve since gotten tattoos. I focused on family and spend almost all my time with them so social stuff has little bearing on my decisions at this point. I’m not trying to convince you to get a tattoo at all by the way I can understand your point of view. But nonetheless I don’t agree with it just as you dont agree with me. I don’t feel like it’s displaying someone else’s art but I don’t have those sort of tattoos anyway. I can agree that it is a bit cucked when people act like collectors and pride themselves in being a walking billboard with big pieces from fancy artists. That’s not what it is at all to me. also I do tattoo myself. Using another artist is just a tool to me. A service I pay for to get what I want. Some people get plastic surgery. I’d almost consider it the same way except I see surgery as frauding forcing your body into another form. Tattoos won’t make you pretty or cool or popular. It’s just a medical procedure to modify your body in a minor way. I like having that choice and I have no issue with those who choose not to. I don’t think it warrants outright disgust but it’s your life man. I prefer to try to understand other peoples motives

Art is a form of expression and while I can discard any product, i cannot with skin unless through a procedure. I’ve thought of learning tattooing myself but I wouldn’t have the patience to settle with a design. Again there’s no way to exclude the artist even if they only execute it, only difference is it does not bother you

So what you’re saying is tattoos are okay as long as you design them yourself and tattoo them yourself and you’d totally do it but you can’t choose a design and you’d be able to deal with the permanence as long as you made it yourself because that wouldn’t be cucked because it’s cucked to have someone fulfill the completely arbitrary and impractical circumstances you’ve created for yourself, under which there is no problem with tattoos?

Tattoos are fine for myself if I decided to go through the process, I prefer to keep art out of my own image however so it won’t happen.
The concept of another artist implementing their craft on my own skin repulses me, it’s not hard to understand.
You are too proud of your own work to see that not everyone likes artists involvement, like permanently dying your hair or getting permanent professional makeup. Your craft is not as impersonal as you wish it was.

All the responses in this thread make me lol dudes getting a tattoo isn't that deep. Yea it's permanent, does that mean it has to go on your face, neck, or hands?? No it doesn't. I am kinda heavily tattoo'd but if I wear pants and long sleeves you would never know. Some tattoos have meaning, some don't and just look cool. There's room for both. Start on your shoulder or chest and work down if you get some. that way they're still coverable even in a t shirt. I started on my legs and worked up , did both knees before I did 1 arm because I wanted to be able to cover them. American traditional and Japanese traditional will age the best. Both are based. Whatever you do don't get some watercolor nonsense or something without a black outline. Will look good when it's fresh and then a few years later no one will be able to make out what it is without squinting. Proper big american trad you should be able to tell what the tattoo is from far away. Take the American trad pill anon

I was originally thinking of getting that tattoo on my left tricep, maybe it'd be better there?

the other one I want to get is sisyphus pushing the boulder up the mountain from an ancient greek amphora on the outside of my left arm, this one I'm a little less certain of but Camus's the myth of sisyphus has played a pretty significant part in how I think about life and I think it would "build lore about myself" as this poster put it

        this

        [...]

tattoos are all about building mythos or lore about your self.

and it's way too easy to look like a tribal douchebag or any other butthole trying to look hard with a sleeve.
that thought process is crucial way before even the actual act of getting it inked into your skin.
ask yourself some revolving questions, why.. will it look good in five years and does it contribute to your persona/personality

I want to get a tattoo on my forearm like this but my forearms are small and still growing. How fricked up will a straight line look after the muscle expands?

anon IMO arrows are overdone and the other anon is right. do not get a large tattoo as your first.
please also take time to look up and do research on the style of tattoo you want. i googled amphora tattoos and it looks like those can't be done very small, due to the small lines in the negative space.
something like picrel looks cool with the thin lines, but they will blur over time. make sure you research potential artists and set up a consultation. i did not do so with my first tattoo and getting it fixed cost double what i got it for initially. it looks OK now but not as good as my 2nd tattoo which i spent a lot more time researching and considering.

            Anonymous

yeh, I guess the arrow thing probably is pretty cliche. I like it but I guess I should look more at what other people do to make sure I'm not doing something too common. I'd been thinking about it for over a year though and still wanted it so that kinda sucks. My other idea was something like picrel cause I do a lot of baking.
sucks about the amphora thing, does that just mean I need to get bigger arms first or is it a no-go altogether? I'd looked up sisyphus tattoos to make sure it wasn't too common to just use actual greek art and didn't find anything, but I guess maybe there's a reason for that other than that no one else thought of it.
about getting something small first, I can understand that, but also the main reason I want tattoos is for it to kinda frame my body in a way, so something like your picrel where it's a round tattoo that doesn't fit with the contours of the body doesn't really appeal to me. what sort of small tattoos are you thinking of, like where would they be placed?

              Anonymous

i get how you feel anon it was popular where i live to have a ring of trees tattoo and i thought it looked cool for a few years, and now i am glad that i didn't get that popular tattoo because now it looks tacky on others. i think basing a tattoo off of something unchangable rather than a current hobby is better, like if you just have picked up baking recently vs if you have been baking all your life.
              >does that just mean I need to get bigger arms first or is it a no-go altogether
when i searched amphora sisyphus tattoo i found picrel, just to give you a scale of how big it might need to be to show the white lines. thin line tattoos and white ink tattoos also fade pretty quickly, i have both and after a year/2 years they are pretty faded, with sunscreen everyday.
depending on your location i would search for local artists and shops, and see if any local artist does designs similar to what you are looking for. like https://www.notattooberlin.com/tattoos has a lot of amphora tattoos done well but you might not want to travel all the way to berlin if you're not already a eurogay.
it's better in the long run to find an artist that already does tattoos that you want, rather than going with an artist that does other stuff and asking for your design. if i wanted a portrait tattoo i wouldn't go to someone who does americana, if that makes sense.

i started typing up a tutorial for this but i thought it would be easier just to show you these steps. it's kind of convoluted but i hope picrel gets the point across. this is stuff i wished i knew before i got my first tattoo, it's important not only to have a design in mind, and to really think about that design, but also to find the right artist which also takes time and work.

looks good! unfortunately it's hard to find tattoos in that style because "ancient greek tattoos" and "amphora tattoos" come up with different results. the closest i could find was "greek pottery art tattoo" which showed picrel, pretty small but still in the style you want. if you find a good artist typically they will work with you to come up with a design you're happy with in a style they can confidently pull off.

something like picrel would be amazing, that looks sick, I wonder if I could do my original sisyphus plan but find a good tattooist and make sure they expand the negative spacing so it can last. I only want sisyphus and the rock from the amphora I posted so I assume they'd be able to expand it enough to fit similarly to the thing one you just posted on my arm. I imagine it'd be liable to looking silly if my arm grows/shrinks too much though so I think I should keep at the curls for a while before I try something like that.

same reason they wear clothes with those things on them. they think if they scream "i have a personality!" as loud as possible people somehow won't see their fat flabby arms and gunts

Don't get any on your hands/forearms, neck, or face. If you'd like to have an actual career that is. Also I would suggest against genital tattoos. Trashy. Other than that, go for it. Side effect is it makes these highly online individuals on this form seethe like frick, so that's pretty funny

depends on the career tbh. I'm a software engineer making over 200k and I don't think anyone would give a shit. People show up to job interviews in jeans and a t-shirt.

if you actually interact with people you'll realize it's mostly degens with self-worth or discipline issues that get tattoos
wanting to be part of that tribe is fricking weird

what if, and I'm just speaking hypothetically here, what if people get tattoos because they like the way they look, not to join a "tribe"

If you actually interacted with people you'd know plenty of completely normal people with high paying jobs and discipline have tattoos, stop projecting homosexual

        >be me, 23, interacting with our CTO.
        >wow he has tattoos must be a "cool guy"
        >gradually become friends coz it's a small office
        >get drunk with him one day during an office party
        >starts crying about being a slob
        >cries about ex-wife
        >says he's always has self worth issues the next day
        >mfw
just a long line of losers with tats, it's always the same thing too "self worth".fricking homosexualry.

People with tats are as much a tribe as people without them, so... not at all

Every single c**t I’ve met with tattoos has had massive mental issues/been a bawd (good frick, kicked her out after the morning frick lmao) or a generally lazy gay.

This isn’t including tribal dudes or warriors with tattoos, they cool.

I don't have anything against tattoos as a concept but I've never seen a good one. The only ones I respect are stuff like an army unit all getting the same one on the same spot.

Nowadays it seems like everyone has a tattoo. It feels like a very womanly thing too, like painting your nails or something. They seem to love just getting random low effort doodles tattooed everywhere.

    >be me
    >taking motorcyle test
    >first day talking to people in the class
    >girl is a tattoo artist in training
    >covered in a bunch of tiny random crap looking practice tats
    >take written test and leave
    >next day she says she got a motorcycle break lever in her ankle
    >first day of riding
    >tat girl drops bike
    >she struggles with riding
    >she then goes out into the fricking street
    >said she was frustueated or some shit
    >gets sent home 2 hours into day 1
    >some chick now has a motorcycle related tattoo and no liscense

I think about this everytime I think about tattoos

Tattoos are for tryhard posers. Also the ink will give you many health problems especially with your thyroid.

A friend of mine is a really fricking talented artist and designs his own tatts, and they rock, if you can't conceive your own tattoo it's going to be unpersonnal and subpar

People get tattoos to try and look cool but it doesn't make them cool it makes them look gay.
