    I mean, it’s the diet.

    Yeah if your diet in childhood is shit, it will be harder to fix later. And some permanent damage is done. But the bigger, the biggest issue of obesity is that the most readily available food, economically and culturally, is dogshit for you. It’s not just willpower, there’s a reason this has only become a problem in the past 50 years. Processed carbs have doomed our species.

    Makes you stand out more if you’re fit I guess, but it does suck. And I’m sad my mom gave me gyno.

      What permanent damages occur from childhood obesity? Was fat lard ever since I was 4, and at 19 (currently 20) I lost a big chunk of that weight going from 260 to 180. I obviously still have a long way to go, but am I fricked for life in hoping I could ever reach 10-12% bf or is there still hope?

    I was obese until the age of 19. Went from 275 to 185 via running and diet. Started lifting and stabilized at 200. You've been refuted. Pedal your blackpill somewhere else homosexual. This is a board for people committed to improving themselves, not for rationalizing your defeatist mentality.

    I didn't even get a choice of "just cut out bad food at the store lmao" no, I would tell my parents don't buy me that shit anymore, they wouldn't and I'd eat it. One day they bought me food, and I just let it sit there and go bad. They were like wtf? I did that for months and one day they learned I was over it. Fricking done. I hate any and all fast food now and only eat mom and pop IF i cheat. which is rarely ever too.

    Also if I ever fall off I'm going to binge eat the world and then kms, I don't do it for health only to look good as frick.

      sorry but you're never going to look good. maybe you can pull off a world-weary aged-before-his-time look with your clothes on, but you're always going to have curtains of loose skin for your entire adult life.         I know, I have essentially a second human flesh prison on me already man. It's more facial and in clothes. I don't plan on ever taking my clothes off for anybody. I don't care though because I'm basically socially blunted anyways so it's not like I need a girlfriend or anything. It's more of a I can eat a box of donuts because I can maintain 180 pounds type look good, not really a look sexy as frick. Even with the surgery i'll still be bad... Worst part is 80% of it wasn't even my fault I got shit on early... I admit to the last 75lbs tho

    It is and it isn't. Obesity is a function of temptation and willpower. Temptation clearly varies dramatically, we all know that one guy who forgets to eat because they don't even enjoy food. Clearly someone like that will not have to exert much willpower to stay thin. Other people receive extreme pleasure from food and have to exert large amounts of willpower and self-control not to overeat. And of course everyone in the modern era has more occasions to be tempted by food in the first place thanks to advertising and the hyperpatable junk food factories that we've installed on every street corner.

    On the measure of willpower itself, this too is something people either have a lot of or a little of. Unlike temptation, it's at least something you can work on to improve, like any other muscle. But even a marathon runner can't run across america nonstop, and neither will someone sufficiently tempted by food be able to resist it indefinitely, regardless of the reserves of willpower they expend trying to resist it.

    So obesity is partially a function of willpower but not a matter of willpower alone. And situations can absolutely arise where, due to peoples' set points, genetically inherited traits and upbringing, the amount of temptation they experience absolutely overwhelms their ability to resist. For these people failure is predestined, and obesity guaranteed. Yes, their willpower failed, but no, there wasn't really much they realistically could have been expected to do to change the outcome. Obesity is a personal failing, but it's also a societal failing, a failure of genetic adaptation, a failure of the markets. It's multifactorial.

    Yes and no. Fat cells never disappear, unless you surgically remove them through liposuction. So as a result it is easier to get fat because the storage is already there and not waiting to be built. So the accumulating effect if you are massively obese at 14 may have some kind of effect at 40. Also, the higher chance of injury being obese is higher if you try to be active, poor skeletal muscle means poor joint stabilizers which means higher chances of sprains which also can have an accumulated effect on fitness.

    But with that said, it’s still no excuse because plenty of people have overcome it. You know what you need to do at 14 to stay healthy and are aware of the consequences if you even have a rudimentary education. And even if that isn’t the case by the time you are an adult at 18 you have little excuse to not to try to adjust your habits to live the next 60 or so of your life in a better position than your prior 18.

    I boxed from 8th grade and all through HS. Started 145-ish ended 160-ish senior year but always fought at 141. Quit second semester of college and over a 5 year period ballooned to like 230. cruised slowly for a few more years to 245 which is when I decided to change. I was 185 in 6 months time.

    It’s entirely about willpower. Genetics can stop you from gaining muscle, can somewhat stop you from gaining weight, but literally nothing can stop you from losing it. it would literally violate physics. Stop blaming “muh disease” for your own personal failings. You’re a fat shit because you want to be, simple as.

    Of course it is a willpower thing.
    It doesnt matter if the cards are stacked against you and you feel hunger a thousand times harder than regular weight people. It sucks, but ultimately willpower is the only fix.
