"Alcohol is never good for people under 40, global study finds"

Alcohol carries significant health risks and no benefits for young people but some older adults may gain from drinking a small amount, according to the largest study of its kind.

My dad unironically believes the "drinking wine is actually good for your health" meme, although it's so patently obvious of a cope for his hedonistic decadent lifestyle it's sad and pathetic to witness.

he's also addicted to benzos, but when I once confronted him on it he swore up and down they aren't drugs and/or addictive and that he's not "just like a street junkie ready to blow some Black person at a moment's notice for another pill" like I claimed. I might've been too harsh on that one.

This is your father and you are saying stupid shit like that to him instead of trying to help him. I hope your entire family doesn't do the same otherwise your entire family would just be crabs in a bucket

I was raised by alcoholics in a party house, basically ruined alcohol for me having to grow up in that kind of environment and like my mom driving drunk and shit with other people's kids in the car looking back to when I'd have friends I could get to stay over was pretty bad because I know they'd go home and tell their parents and shit.

A few of drinks of alcohol increases testosterone by about 20%. I assume you can maintain that 20% by maintaining a buzz plateau by consuming a drink per hour after the first few drinks to hold blood alcohol at the optimal level for testosterone boosting. If you take too much alcohol too quickly you will end up lowering testosterone by overshooting the mark and getting too drunk.

      >A few of drinks of alcohol increases testosterone by about 20%.
Read it again. 0.5g/kg alcohol is like a quarter beer. Most beers have 20-25g of alcohol.

There are two great vices in the world alcohol and religion.
    >From then through to his late writings as a mature philosopher, Nietzsche recommended avoiding alcohol: 'I cannot recommend seriously enough that all spiritual natures give up alcohol entirely. Water is enough…'

          >Like seriously do people here have no sense of moderation?
some people are incapable of moderating alcohol/drug use. it's not because they are weak willed, it's because those drugs have a greater effect on them than on the average person and/or their life without drugs is shittier. It's like comparing a poor dude who has the opportunity to steal $10 mil with guaranteed no consequences vs elon musk having the opportunity to steal $10k with guaranteed no consequences. The poor dude is much more likely to do it than elon, not because elon has such great morals and is a better person, but because the poor person stands to gain much more from stealing it than elon does.

I think alcohol helps the layman survive. Just like takeout is a necessary source of of well prepared food for the layman. They could learn to cook for themselves, but it would take more work and better planning. Less likely for a schmuck to manage that, so they just pay the price of eating out in order to get the benefit of decent food. For someone who knows how to cook though, eating out (aside from social contexts) is spending more without much benefit, because they have less costly ways of getting a nourishing meal...

Just like drinking regularly, for someone who knows how to eat right and perform regular cardio, comes with health costs and few benefits. Alcohol is only protective because so many people have none of the other habits which are protective against heart disease

You completely missed the point. Don't focus on the specifics of the analogy moron, it's just the analogy lmao. I meant like Boujee takeout not like fast food.

But the analogy even works for fast food. If some poorgay makes 8/hr to pay rent/insurance/bills, they don't have time for anything except work, workout, sleep and repeat, and they don't know how to cook, KFC is a convenient source of protein.

However, KFC has no value for someone with the time, skills, and or money to feed themselves way better food.

                >I meant like Boujee takeout
                Goyslop. It's still goyslop.

You're performing a detached analysis through a sanitized "division of labor" lens and getting bogged down in theoretical abstractions where you should be taking in further information about how people actually live. You are assuming market efficiencies that do not actually exist - people cannot actually outsource most/all of their food preparation to others and come out ahead in the trade in the current market. A luxury premium skews the pricing up (even at KFC), while heretofore unpunished widespread corner-cutting practices skew the quality of the goods down. In pure abstract theoryland, the market *should* sort these inefficiencies out (eventually?) and provide for the "decent food outsourced to another" you describe. In reality, this has not occurred.

    1. Alcohol interferes with protein synthesis. If you lift all week, alcohol will inevitably hinder gains, but with low intake the damage is minimized and if you only lift once or twice a week you will have windows where you aren't growing anyway.
    2. Alcohol is an empty calorie. If you have a tight diet then it won't fit in but you can easily design a diet where you lose weight or gain muscle even with the empty calories - it's mainly just hard to do both at once
    3. Alcohol gets broken down before fat. Literal moron femoids think this matters. It doesn't. Cico matters
    4. Alcohol makes it harder to maintain good hydration. Be mindful and consider straight up chugging a liter of water before bed.
Keep all this in mind and you can be leaner, stronger, and healthier than the naysayers. But it will be harder, and if you're looking for an easy 'level up' it might be to cut alcohol. If you want it to be easy.

this isn't new research. it's been known for years and years that no amount of alcohol is positive for health. the "wine is good for you" studies cherrypick a couple specific areas that the "antioxidants" have and ignore the vast majority of effects which are negative. they also often are correlation studies -- rich people are on average healthier, and wine is associated with being rich. literally nothing new here. I don't drink because I'm an alcoholic and when I drink at all I quickly return to drinking all day every day, but for someone who is able to moderate their alcohol use, it's not really the end of the world to have a few drinks now and then. it's not healthy, but it's ok to do things that aren't unhealthy now and again just to remind yourself that you are alive and that a person's goal should not be to live the theoretically optimal life. it's boring.

You're right. Interestingly, Roman's did not let youth have wine until they were 30.
