OHP

Unless you are a fat frick eating 6000 calories a day, lifting more than 1 pl8 its almost impossible. It will take YEARS to increase your OHP as a non obese natty

Not really, my all time OHP max is 80kg (1.5pl8) @ 71kg bw after two years of going to the gym.

80kg 1RM OHP means you can do 1 plate (60kg) for like comfortable 10

It's what I have coined the combination of a push press and heavily leaned back press. Envision the most spastic cheated overhead press possible, with some pajeet beneath it squirming while trying not to die.

leaning back a bit is actually necessary to get your head out of the way

Yes dude I am not talking about that, but when people do standing incline bench. Not even that really because it requires some skill to learn how to maximize leverage cheats, you know a pajeet press when you see it.

Im 185 6’1”, my best is 1.25 pl8 for 2, so about the same stats as you, what makes my ohp go up is doing a 2-3 week period where i max out on it 3-4 times, 1RM, 3RM, 5RM its really fun, and it works for me. Be sure to up your facepull and pullup volume in that period, so you prevent shoulder pain.

It was my dream for years ever since I witnessed a guy press 2pl8 in college. I always wanted to be that guy so I worked really hard at it. Spent six years accomplishing nothing with weird rep schemes and hairbrained theories. Funny enough all I had to do was add 2.5 lbs at a time two to three times a week for 3 sets of 5 and gain a little weight.

ohp is the easiest of them all. I've been lifting for 10 years now and I've reached 1pl8 OHP in a year, while still not able to get to the 2/3/4 territory and stopped even trying

Push presses are a great OHP accessory but I get what you're saying. Most people at the gym just cheat at OHP's, they either push press the first rep and then continue using stretch reflex on every new rep. A lot of people also use very short ROM.

6'1 lanklet here. What happened me the most was overloading movements. Push presses and heavy pin presses. I have no idea why but doing blocks on those make regular OHP feel so light.

What do you guys think about the Z press?

      Anonymous

Its an accessory that helps maintain overhead stability and mobility. gains from it are either because you are cheating some range in a standard ohp by using momentum or some stupid rippeshit nonsense, or its a deloading movement that is letting you get enough rest to progress instead of spinning your wheels doing 3x10 3x a week with the same weight each time

Incase anyone doesn't realize, this lift is super important and helpful for physique, it's literally what makes you have wide shoulders / inverted pyramid frame dumb bells are fine you don't have too do this only with a bar. Combine this with latera raises, I think because the laterial raise targets the lateral deltoid better. You will see muscle builders doing lateral raises all the time. If you're not doing either or both of these what are you even doing?

I just got past 1pl8 for sets of 8 reps and I’m natty. A geezer ex-lifter acquaintance of mine recommended setting the safeties at the hardest part of the lift and grinding that part of the motion with reduced weight at the end of my usual sets. It help me get past the 80lb plateau I had been stuck on for a couple of months.

seeing guys at the gym hit 1pl8 is cool, but i just dont like it. doing upright rows and lat raises at the end of push days works best because the lack of pressing means i can trash the frick out of my chest and triceps during earlier lifts

I have made shit progress on OHP, why is it so hard? I also suck at deadlift.
Been lifting consistently for almost two years now.
Currently benching 2pl8 4x6 (not archmaxxing or anything)
    Squating 275 4x6 (atg)

OHP still stuck at 120 4x6
DL still stuck at 355 3x5

Is it because I am built moronic?

Best take, I actually came too this board just to tell people too do the OHP with dumbbells even if it's what you have. I do them arnold style by curling the dumbells out on the way up and in on the way down. So when you start and stop your palms are facing your chest. That's how I was taught too do them.
