Your body will use as much protein as it needs and the rest will be stored as fat.
There's no way of accurately calculating how much you need because it varies so much,.

I was mainly asking because I've read that you shouldn't eat more than 20g or 30g per hour/meal and you end up "pissing away" the rest.
What's the difference between spacing out a lot of meals and eating all your macros in a few.

        It make absolutely no difference.

why are competitive lifters doing the whole "eat every 2 hours" meme then? they even wake up in the middle of the night to eat, seems retarded if it didnt make a difference

that's partially for micros also not just protein.
literally impossible at their body masses to ingest enough micros to sustain their muscle mass if they were only eating once or twice a day.
About every hour the bodies transport cells from the intestines to the organs/blood open up again to take new nutrients.
Some things like vitamind/calcium can take hours to absorb after they are bound. add in miro antagonist, etc.
just makes sense to eat every other hour.

False. You have a stomach, a short intestine, and a long intestine. Food will remain in the digestive tract for about two days before you eventually shit it out. That's plenty of time to absorb whatever amount of protein you ate in one sitting.

        Anonymous

That would entirely depend on the source of protein and your specific biochemistry. You aren't going to absorbed 100% on contact. It will take hours to go through your digestive system, always leeching protein out of the food.

Your best bet is just to eat a high protein breakfast, drink a protein shake at lunch and have a high protein dinner and do not worry about absolute targets, instead just focus on keeping a stream moving through your body for it to grab what it needs when it needs it.

The myth comes from the misinterpretation of a study, it said the body synthesizes on average 30g of protein per hour, it doesn't not mean it throws away the rest.

      inaccurate.
Amino acids float in your body until they reach their half life, at which point they are broken down for energy.

Ok, seriously tho. How much Protein can I ingest within a given time and still metabolize it efficiently. I don't like eating half a dozen meals a day but I also want to build muscles/utilize my protein intake efficiently.

depends on a lot of factors.
the biggest factor in you not absorbing a lot of protein at once is that you can indirectly push food through the body by eating too much at once. Before the intestines actually have time to absorb them efficiently.
This can cause IBS like symptoms, it doesn't mean you have IBS, but if you eat a lot of food and suddenly an hour or two later feel you need to take an absurdly large or violent shit. That's generally a sign you're eating too much at once.
As the act of eating new food stimulated the body as the food moves through the digestive tract to purge to make room.

        >Amino acids float in your body until they reach their half life, at which point they are broken down for energy.
And then if that energy (glycogen) isn't needed it is converted to fat.

yeah, but the body doesn't just turn protein into energy. I want to make that clear.
Amino acids have multiple hour half-lifes up to an entire day in some cases if memory serves correct. You can still use those amino acids at any point during this time for any number of processes.

          [...]
So, if my shits are consistent I have not much to worry about? Neat.

generally, the actual shit itself is just as important.
in general health you should be pooping at-least once a day, twice is good also, three times is showing some issues.
also the poop should be wet and mostly solid.
          that's the more important part.
You can tell a lot about a poop.

You can tell if you're not absorbing fat (excessive yellow/bile looking liquid floating around the poop) you can tell if you're ingesting too much protein if your stool is excessively loose. too much fiber can make things rock hard. etc
A lot of keto-tards have excessively loose stool with tons of fat around it. that is not good. you're effectively giving yourself IBS.
The body is rejecting it entirely, which is why your body is dumping it.
There is a window where poop should stay in the body to be absorbed as efficiently as possible. Otherwise you are literally dumping out partially undigested/unabsorbed food.
This happens to a small extent no matter what, you never absorb something 100%, but the ibs symptoms is what makes it drop quite a bit in absorption.

            Wrong
Like carbohydrates and fat, protein provides calories. If you consume more protein than your body needs to maintain, repair and grow cells, the excess is stripped of its nitrogen-containing components and converted into glycogen -- and then glucose -- for energy. When this energy goes unused, it's converted into body fat.

              nice headcannon there m8.
              >more protein than the body needs
your body doesn't just use a small amount of protein dipshit.
every step you take requires a tiny amount of amino acids to keep those muscle fibers working and not breaking apart every day of your life.
You near constantly have amino acids going through your system and they are used as needed. not all at once you fucking dunce.
So your body has no fucking idea how much protein it's going to fucking need.
Using your stupid ass logic if i decided to do a few pushups right before bed my body would just break down.
god damn i hate ignorant losers like you.
              so once again.

the amino acids circulate in your body, your body takes amino acids as needed, at the end of its halflife it is broken down in the lipogenesis cycle.
protein can also be used at any moment for energy outright, that part is true, but if the body has glucose already it won't do this. which is why eating carbs is important newfag. so you have glucose and your fucking amino acids can actually do what they are suppose to.
so shut your fucking mouth you garden gnome before i put you down.

I dont think I eat much fiber, but I dont get it, people seem to recommend more fiber with both dry and wet stools

              what's your carb intake like?
excessive dehydration is linked to minimal carb intake, just throwing that out there.
Which is one of the big reasons why keto-diet guys lose a ton of water weight.
              Any supplements, etc?

if you're having type one rabbit poops about the size of a quarter at a time and they clip off that's not good. could add clementines to your diet.
Only 40 calories, adds carbs, adds fiber, adds water. I eat one about an hour before bed to help keep my sugar good throughout the night. helps with sleep a lot.

                >what's your carb intake like?
I eat around 40grams of oats in the morning with 50 grams of strawberries. 1 or 2 slices of bread during lunch with a handful of white grapes. sweet potato/whole wheat noodles or couscous with dinner. that should be enough carbs, right? I eat 3 times a day and never snack in-between or after, as my stomach acid would kind of creep up when lying down if I ate close to going to bed

youre not the only one, the doctors took blood and stool samples and they couldnt find anything either so they just slapped the IBS label on it.
dietician helped me to stabilize (used to swing between type 1 and 6 frequently) and reduce cramps at least so I can function again, still annoying to live with though, especially because I dont even like food much. anyway thanks for helping, I'll try the clementines before bed because I do wake up dry mouthed with dark pee

                >I'll try the clementines before bed because I do wake up dry mouthed with dark pee
the clementines will help with that.
also think about getting a humidifier as you're probably a mouth breather and you can lose a ton of moisture from breathing throughout the night.
if it's winter time where you're from or get excessively cold please take not that as air gets cold moisture takes up less space so it pulls moisture from everything to try and bring back equilibrium.

Not to brag or anything but I'm a perma 4, u mirin? My diet is the most run of the mill stuff there is: oats with two pieces of fruit and coffee for breakfast, followed by a protein shake, lean meat for lunch with rice/potatoes and side of veggies (broccoli or green beans normally), then a ham cheese sandwich with rye bread and a greek yogurt. I think drinking plenty of water in the morning is a huge factor.

It makes no fucking difference. There are people eating one meal a day and building incredible physiques. If they would only absorb 20-30g of the ~150g of protein or whatever they eat you literally would not be able to build muscle with only 20-30g of protein.

Stop fucking overcomplicating things and believing in retarded pseudoscience. You don't look the way you do because you eat 1, 6 or 12 meals a day. It makes no fucking difference, this retarded micromanaging has no room in your life unless you are an IFBB pro getting ready for a show in a week or two. Eat protein and lift. Eat on a deficit if you want to lose, eat on a surplus if you want to gain. ITS SO FUCKING SIMPLE AND EASY
