Yes, those thighs, arms, and shoulders clearly belong to a non-lifter.

Olympic lifting is very fun and worthwhile. I did it for about 3 years and loved it. The problem is that, unless you are actively trying to compete (and working a non labor intensive job), it doesn’t make a lot of sense to go on a full tilt program. You’re never at “100 percent” capacity, even for a meet. If you don’t have a coach in your first year you will almost certainly make progress at 50 percent pace because you aren’t experienced enough to correct your technique or program for your deficiencies. Not to mention certain body types/frames are terrible for the sport, if you aren’t in a specific one of these you are automatically at a handicap. If you’re a certain size you may fall into an extremely populated weight class and have no chance to make it very far even if you stick with it 10 years. If you don’t have a physio/sports massage money twice a month you basically aren’t going to recover at the pace you need. I could go on.

I don’t necessarily want to discourage you if you really want to do this. I have just found that I can include alot of these movements in a the “hybrid” program I’m in and still have movements I love but not have to worry as much about recovery or not having alot left in the tank weekly after training.

Yep. I was helping out some co-workers at the office gym and showed them how to power clean dumb bells, so they wouldn't have to use the smith machine. Then I showed them dumb bell c&j. Now they all want to learn how to do it. I can't really help them learn it though, since I taught myself and didn't bother learning proper technique/form.

I think you have a bit of a down view on it, I have been training with a club for the last 2 years and made excellent progress while also working full time. I can devote 10-12 hours / week to training at the gym itself and then I spend some time stretching at home.

If you don't have the time to devote I could see it being frustrating but if you can then it is very rewarding. I really like the team atmosphere as well, so much better than a commercial gym where you don't talk to anyone.

I would say some form of jerk or push press should be incorporated into most people's routines. Cleans are also really easy to incorporate, I would even go as far as to replace deadlifts with cleans. I need to get over my back injury and I'll be back to OWG.
