only pushups

This may sound moronic, but I was wondering what type of bod is possible by only doing pushups as an exercise. I mainly am looking for stronger arms and core (maybe abs) so I was wondering if only pushups would be okay.

Push-ups work every muscle in your body if your form is right

No they don’t moron. They use every muscle as stabilizers but that’s like saying a back squat is a lat exercise because you use your lats to keep the bar in place.

A good one. Even better if you add in chinups. Even better better if you put some heavy stuff in a backpack to make it harder once you can bang out 20 reps.

Weighted pushups are good, I've seen a lot of chest and core development since I've started doing them. Even better if you do them with variable declines and weights.

IST doesn't like to admit it because of the lifting culture centered on this board, but for the average unathletic normie (You and I), all you really need are pushups, pullups, and running*. If you have the option to lift, do it, because it's fun and easy, but it is completely optional.

*proper form should be noted - you should be running on your toes, not heel-striking.

If anything, I'd recommend weightlifting and weighted exercises in general to an unIST normie because they allow for progressive overload with lower reps/time.

With bodyweight, after a short while you're battling endurance to get any gains.

I can ruck a heavy half mile in 7 minutes and my cardio gains transfer if I have run for three miles without having to jog like an idiot.

Calisthenics doesn’t work that way. Not saying you can get “huge.” But you are not “battling endurance after a short while.” There’s so much you can do to continue getting stimulus. Increase volume, increase intensity by way of either using extra weight or changing to a harder form of what you’re doing. You can go a fricking long way with calisthenics, and just because you’re doing a set of 50 push ups doesn’t mean you’re automatically training for endurance alone.

I'm currently doing pushups to two second beeps AMRAP, followed by an work, then 5x20 pushups with feet inclined to two second beeps, then an work, then another 5x20 pushups. And have been doing pushups work instead of lifting weights for over a year, and it absolutely builds muscle. I think you've just got to make it difficult and do it constantly and you'll be fine.

Also, definitely do ab work as a supplement, it'll help massively. And make sure form is down pat, chest to the floor, arms fully extended.

You'll likely develop your muscles in an imbalanced way, get overuse injuries, stall, get bored, maybe even quit training altogether. It's a moronic idea in the long term in almost every way, but you already knew that, didn't you? You're just hoping someone would tell you it's okay because you already want to do it and are looking for affirmation.

Some of us are NEETS and can't afford a gym sub, anon.
Myself included, I only have 2x 3kg dumbbells at home and have been doing 3x full body workouts per week, just added pushups to it.
Any training feels like better than no training at all, what do you recommend?

Oh please, don't act like you know everything about fitness. I'm well aware of the potential risks of only doing pushups, but I also know my body and how it responds to different types of exercise. Plus, I'm not looking for your approval or affirmation. I'll do what I want, thanks.

I'm not against training exclusively with calisthenics, I'm just attacking the idea of doing exclusively push ups. You can build a great physique by doing various variations of push ups (decline, handles, close grip...), dips, pull ups, inverted rows, bodyweight triceps extensions... Maybe also adding weights and arranging them into a proper program which varies rep ranges and volume. I was maybe a bit too harsh in my previous post, but I truly despise the "just do 1 exercise for the rest of your life" mentality, it's promoted far too often online considering nobody with good results actually trains that way.

Pushups only is better than nothing, and you'll probably get bored/curious and expand your routine eventually. I'd say only good things can come out of it.

Nice. But if you have the space for pull up equipment there is no reason not to invest into dip bars at some point, so you can do pull ups, inverted rows, dips and push ups. And then why not get a cheap set dumbbells at some point to do arm and chest isolations and shoulder press...

guy, but it's what I started out with over a decade ago. It's so cheap, there is no reason not to give it a try, but your first month of training will be shit and progress will be slow. If you have the space and money, get a dip station (they range from 90-200€ last time I checked). Or buy a pull up bar and two free standing dip bars. Also while the pull up is an outstanding exercise, if one would want to go full minimalist equipment, he should get dip bars and do inverted rows+dips (and whatever other cali stuff) imho. ALSO also do not underestimate dumbbells, flys, curls and whatever tricep iso will give you the most satisfying pump and an overall better body and skipping them because of minimalist autism is moronic.

Pushups are great, put on a backpack with weights/waterbottles once it gets too easy. Then increase the difficulty by putting your hands and feet on lifted platforms so you can go really dip. Do this and you will see great strength and size gains.

If it's 150lbs...you are actually benching nearly 70kg. So yes, you can do push ups and don't need weights.

      that's not how it works
to find out exactly how much youre lifting when doing push ups: execute a push up on a scale, with the feet at the same level as the scale otherwise that would skew the measurement, look at the measured weight, it will change across the push up range of motion of course

it's usually 60% of your weight, let's drop it even further and say 50%.
If you weigh 70kg you'd be pushing 35-40kg at best, okayish for tons of reps

Do pushups at an angle, with your feet up behind you for example, Do them on 1-5 fingers and also on your fists. If you have healthy shoulders do extended ROM with some cinder blocks. Progress to L sits and handstand pushups and all that shit too..pushups and pullups are king before you do weightlifting for the sheer fun of it. the calisthenics does get boring eventually
