      Don't ever eat salt?

  2. 2 years ago

I started drinking saltwater at work on account of the heat and all my lifts shot up. I thought I was programming right. Time to get salty again.

      Anonymous

I started drinking lmnt which is like a salt drink mix, and I legitimately feel so much better. I didn't know about the muscle gainthing, but that'd explain why my shoulders have been growing. I'm pretty DYEL, and now my close-fit tshirts are tight fit edging towards uncomfortable in the shoulders, while my weights trending down.

The best part really is salt has completely killed the worst of my snack cravings.

Sometimes I wonder if I need more salt and whether I eat too much precisely because I don't eat enough and drink too much water. I'm scared of being wrong and getting too much salt though.

Specific routines don't matter until you have been training hard for over 5 years. 90% of the effectiveness is the amount of effort you put in as long as you work all muscle groups regularly.

He didn't say enough for four 50 minute videos.
      >muscle mass is most easily adapted from acute stress
      >it must be fully recovered from
That's all he had to say. He's right but his work isn't near finished because achieving momentary muscle failure is an art that 99.9% of lifters have never and will never perform. I've only been able to do it once with my triceps. I could not replicate it the next week. In fact volume accrual is arguably better at this point because in the time it takes you to get that good at lifting you could have just grinded the inferior method to completion.

Ah that was just something to listen to, the guy likes to babble.
        >achieving momentary muscle failure is an art that 99.9% of lifters have never and will never perform
lol what? You've never done a lift to the point where you can't do another without sacrificing form or ROM

          Anonymous

          >You've never done a lift to the point where you can't do another without sacrificing form or ROM
That's exactly how I lift most of the time. Momentary muscle failure is when your muscle actually fails. It just kinda turns off for a second. Seconds later the feeling comes back and you can't even do a pushup for the next hour. It doesn't just happen because you tried hard. You have to be doing the perfect lift with the perfect weight and have some mechanism to force eccentrics as well be at the level to use such a weight and have ridiculous focus or pain tolerance.

I think you're still not understanding that when he says failure he means it literally. The muscle momentarily shuts down. It then turns right back on but it's too weak to really use for an hour. Then you get extreme doms for several days.

You can lift until you fail to push another rep but it's not the same thing as continuing on to do only eccentrics until the muscle itself fails. You have not done this.

                >t's not the same thing as continuing on to do only eccentrics until the muscle itself fails

Nope. The muscle is still working even if you're just hold the weight static at the bottom. Making it fail is whole nother level that I apparently can't guide you into conceptualizing.

If you can find a way to become part of that 0.01% then you will get as big as Mentzer, NATTY.

Certainly not. It's just the most efficient way to reach your limit. Doing it consistently without roids though would be indicative of serious potential and you'd probably surpass 25ffmi though.

Isn't this basically what Dorian did? Train until you can't do another rep, then have your training partner give you a boost on the concentric (basically a dropset with progressively less and less weight) until you can't even do any more of those, then get your training partner to lift the weight up for you and do a couple of reps where you're just controlling the speed of the eccentric until you can't even slow the weight down anymore and your muscles are just jelly.

I never said to train like that lol, I was just describing dorian's training philosophy and asking anon if mentzer's style was any different.
                >2g of anabolic compounds
Try 4-5g of gear + growth + insulin. Also there's no reason why natties couldn't do one (1) set like that per session if they're only training 3x a week. Dorian claimed to only do like 3 sets per week per bodypart although I'm pretty sure that's bullshit.

                Anonymous

There really is no reason a natty couldn't do this. He would only progress as far as the natty limit and it would take longer but these limitations don't exclusively apply to HIT. It's the case regardless of your method. The problem is that people who lift that fricking hard are almost always the same people who would roid up so it would appear to the midwit that only roiders can lift hard.

AFAIK Yates specifically used dropsets and supersets to achieve failure more than Mentzer, who would try to achieve failure with assisted reps added onto the set itself.

he's wrong about training frequency, muscles start to atrophy if muscle fibers aren't stimulated hours after using them, there is no mechanistic or biochemical explanation as to why muscles shouldn't atrophy after hours of no use in fact only the opposite exist.

he was wrong, just let it go ffs
he made all of his gains doing full body 3-6x a week, he did change his volume dramatically but the way he trained was still nowhere close to what heavy duty has you train, he never followed his own advice, just look at the routines he used when he was winning contests some of them are legit full body 3x a week routines, when he trained with arthur jones he was forced to do full body 3x a week, then he deloaded to doing an upper lower 2x a week each which is still way more work than heavy duty has you do.
he never trained in that ridiculous one set a week HIT method, it's bullshit, it's not enough to grow muscle unless you are a beginner muscle fibers literally start to fricking atrophy HOURS after last using them.

Natty, age 29. did push ups, pull ups, and baby weight curls, tricep extensions, db press, and body weight squats from 17-23. Did baby weight lifting in a “gym” that maxed out at 60lb DB and could load up an EZ curl bar to deadlift 200lb from 23-25. 25-29, I lift “seriously” for most of the year in a proper gym with barbells, but sometimes I take time off of goal setting and just maintain. I’ve never really gotten “strong” the way that /fit describes. I see people in the gym who have shit gains/aesthetics but can bench lmao2pl8. There’s plenty of guys who squat 3 and 4 pl8 and guys who deadlift 4 or 5 plate, but they are all big (4u) guys over 30. There’s very few “young men” doing big lower body strength lifts. But many men of all ages doing 2pl8 bench. Just not me lmao.

I guarantee you that I’m not larping or fricking with you. I’ve just never trained for strength longer than 3 months at a time, so I never progress in strength. If you weren’t room temp IQ or if you actually lifted and played sports, you would know that volume and diet play a much bigger role in hypertrophy and leanness than raw strength numbers.

Your numbers do matter though. Those shoulders and delts simply are not stuck at 105lbs for 5. Maybe you preexhausted them and then OHP'd after having already benched heavy and you're moronic enough to think the last set reflects your rep max.

              Anonymous

You’re right, I could do more than 105 OHP, but it hurts my shoulders to progress past it. I can do 60lb on DB seated press for 8 reps

I know I'm right. Stop telling people you can big with baby weights. Whatever you did to get that thick had nothing to do with you wasting your time on less than bodyweight bench presses.

I can’t progress on BB due to shoulder mobility issues too. I do anywhere from 60lb-80lb DB presses 4x8-12 range, sometimes drop set that down to 50-60lb till failure. You can do babbyweights and gain mass, it’s just not as efficient

There is a correlation because they both use chest and triceps. Theres too many factors to make a direct translation but if you actually barbell benched amd got decent at it you'd be doing well over 250 for reps.

                Also, I can’t do 80lb DB for 12. I said 60-80 4x8-12. 80, I can usually do 5-8 reps. 85lb for 5 at my absolute peak strength when I was bulked to 180lb

That's not baby weight. If somebody smaller than you progressed to a 160lb bench they wouldn't be able to dumbbell bench like this and would not be as big as you.

My dad was a bretty good endurance athlete in his day, could roll up and win at local 5k/10k races and we’ve got a few CFL athletes on my moms side of the family. So pretty athletic genes on both sides, but I got manletism from my 5’7 dad. My mom is 5’8 and every male on her side of the family is 6’0 minimum, including my brothers

You really don't need to lift heavy to get an aesthetic body

machines and isolation exercises are superior to compound lifts

Machines will never compete with free weights or cables. When you use a barbell or a cable or bodyweight, you are in control, the lift puts you in the drivers seat.

This lets you use a real world pattern of movement and get strong and put on mass. If you use a machine, there is no bar path and you are putting so much stress on your joints by doing an unnatural movement with no real world function.

        >In summary, we show that a high salt diet significantly delays tumor growth in two independent murine tumor transplantation models. This effect seems to be mediated through enhanced anti-tumor immunity by a functional inactivation of MDSCs. Since high salt conditions also affected human MDSCs in a similar manner, our data suggest that the targeting of this mechanism could potentially be a novel beneficial strategy to block MDSC function in settings of cancer immunotherapy.

        >the low chloride intake that comes hand in hand with a reduction in dietary salt intake has been associated with +21% increased mortality risk.

The borderline (i.e. minimally acceptable) levels of sodium intake for keeping calcium and magnesium level are much higher than the FDA published RDA. Basically, you need at least 63mg/kg of body weight daily sodium intake to prevent the chronic loss of calcium and magnesium. Also, anything below that intake will increase (not decrease) water retention.

For those looking or specific recommendations, since salt is about 40% sodium, you need 10g-15g of salt daily to meet the requirements of these studies. If you use sodium bicarbonate, it is about 27% sodium so that equates to 20g-22g daily intake of baking soda to meet the requirements. Interestingly enough, ingesting 20g-22g of sodium bicarbonate a day is what is typically used in studies showing ergogenic (performance) benefit for athletes.

A high (by RDA standards) salt intake is one of those things that is undeniably beneficial if you actually do your research and use your common sense. If you look at most official dietary recommendations and just do the opposite of what they say, you will end up with an extremely healthy diet:
            >eat lots of whole grains
            >avoid saturated fats, eat lots of vegetable fats
            >dont eat meat, especially red meat
            >dont eat eggs, have a low dietary cholesterol intake
            >eat very little sugar, fructose is the worst sugar
            >eat very little salt

Do the opposite and you have a diet with no grains or seeds, high amounts of fructose from fruit, high amounts of salt, meat, and eggs. Not surprisingly, this is pretty close to the ideal diet.

Agree except eggs should be like 2-3 per day maximum and ideally raw, and red meat shouldn't be overindulged in due to inflammation, high iron levels and tryptophan. Most of your protein should ideally be from gelatin

How the FRICK is anyone supposed to do that. I already put a little over 1 teaspoon of salt in my daily pound of ground beef, and another half teaspoon of salt and half teaspoon of potassium chloride in my water bottle. If I put any more it becomes too salty and my body refuses to eat or drink more. That, combined with natural sources of salt largely in my cheeses and milk come to only 4g of sodium a day.

Little did I know I needed a break, unfortunately it costed me 3-5 months of cut progress, and I think starting this cut again I have to reduce training volume. I literally took a 6 hour nap after the gym I was so exhausted, this was after binging on carbs. I don't know whats going on, I can't stop eating (i dont get full) and I literally feel unable to move some days (energy wise). It feels good driving because I'm kind of just physically afk but awake you know

    >iodized salt
Skip this. Purchase some sea salt and some iodine drops.
The dude is right, but its not strictly the salt that's of concern. Salt is important, however the big notion is the iodine itself. Iodine is one of those extremely low dose micronutrients that has been gradually disappearing from the human diet over the past several centuries.
The only people who shouldn't supplement iodine are those who eat wild caught fish almost daily, and those who have pre-existing thyroid problems requiring medication.

They fortify the food with just enough iodine to keep the average person functionally alive. That doesn't make anything optimal. Just like how the US RDA for protein is 50g -- just enough protein to prevent your 85 year old grandma from succumbing to muscle wasting

        Anonymous

I tried it. I actually ran an experiment on myself for the past 6 months (though initially unintentional).
Starting in February I followed the routine described in pic. Spoiler: chugging that concentrated amount of salt is fricking God awful. However, I noticed within an hour or two of ingestion, my heart rate would increase slightly and I would feel more alert. Concentration was easy, and I had great work performance and sleep. Cravings for junk food were reduced, but not totally gone -- though I was also cutting at the time, so maybe under maintenance I might not have experienced any cravings at all.
Fast forward a few months to May, and I had to be hospitalized for almost a week (entirely unrelated). In that time, guess which i wasn't ingesting.
So since I was 3 months out from the experiment start, and with an upcoming vacation where I didn't want to risk bringing a glass bottle that might leak deeply staining liquid onto my clothes, I guinea pigged the opposite. Concentration became progressively worse, was having more trouble sleeping, and when you can't have those items in place, your willpower also begins to go to shit.
Far from a perfect study as there were other factors at play (especially as my diminished willpower let my diet slip more often than I would care to admit). Plus, the years of exposure likely mean that 3 months is nowhere near a sufficient time to expunge the accumulation. But the initial results were quite telling. I'm back on the iodine horse in hopes that taking the crash might allow for a good rebound.

That's the best salt I was able to find in the US, in terms of not having microplastics like in sea salt, and not having anti-caking agents in non-sea salt sources.

Anti-caking agents are found in 90% of the salt you can buy in stores. They disrupt the intestinal lining and contribute to inflammation.

Iodized salt is a meme. The amount of iodine they put in it is the bare minimum amount to not get goiter. You will still be very deficient. A glass of milk contains far more iodine than any amount of iodized salt you could realistically eat in a day even if you were to force yourself to chug it.

Personally, I think the most vital for aesthetics are upper-chest man cleavage definition, and round, even delts (with matching front and rear delts, not bench press/ohp only trogolodyte shoulders) with an open posture (neck/shoulders not curled forward). Abs are a bonus but secondary to the others.

No don't put psyllium in your shake, it will turn it into disgusting gel. I take psyllium husk every day but in a very specific method:
I put half a tablespoon in a short glass and blast the frick out of it with the coldest water possible from the sink, then chug it down as fast as possible before it has a chance to absorb much water. It has no strong taste but the texture is simply repulsive, it's disgusting. So I blast it with water and suck it down before it becomes gel like. It will become gel like in my stomach and then it's no problem. You'll have to experiment with the technique. I do at least 2 servings that way for a total of at least one tablespoon every night before bed.

I was just reading a profile on Galen, the Roman physician. He only saw two cases of diabetes in his entire career serving the Roman elite, despite their diet having a very high sugar content for the time period. They were doing something that made a huge difference to their health, cos nowadays about 1/20 people have diabetes.

        >He only saw two cases of diabetes in his entire career serving the Roman elite, despite their diet having a very high sugar content for the time period.
This is because fat causes diabetes, not sugar. Having a lot of sugar (or even a lot of carbs) alongside a lot of fat will greatly speed up the process (via the glucose fatty acid cycle) which is how so many people have been confused about the causative factor.

Unless you're eating a low fat diet then a high sugar intake will give you diabetes, but only because the sugar exacerbates the process by which certain fats cause diabetes. In the context of a low fat diet, sugar will never cause diabetes. The Romans in question had that sort of diet: lots of carbs, not a lot of fats.

      Anonymous

If you drink a glass of whole milk and eat eggs / diary every day you don't need lugols. The overwhelming majority of people drink low fat milk or no milk at all, and eat american ~~*cheese*~~, and rarely eat eggs because of ~~*high cholesterol*~~.

You don't need to be spending shit tons of money on fish and seaweed for natural iodine. A couple eggs and a glass of milk contain well over 100 micrograms of iodine.

        Anonymous

The point is not the minimum necessary iodine. The point is using iodide to flush out build ups of fluoride and bromide that accumulates in the system. A drop of lugols is like 15x the RDA for iodine

          Anonymous

If you're trying to flush out built up fluoride that's another thing altogether. Just be careful because some people have given themselves hyperthroidism with iodine before. It also increases DHT production which I found out the hard way a few years ago.

I can't argue with double dubs, but that's a pretty limited toolkit. If your only plan is "violent double leg and try to bounce their head off the concrete hard enough to debilitate but not hard enough to kill" you'll 100% mog any untrained person no questions asked, but you're a lot less capable than someone who's trained in a system that gives them more options.

The guy who fricking loves his hammer is in a great spot until he has to unscrew something. It's not about having an "exotic assortment of tools." It's about recognizing that there is no one size fits all solution, and setting yourself up for success means giving yourself options.

Also though wrestling makes you able to control their hands and head and keep them too close to hit you hard. And the training makes you too solid to be knocked out, worn out, or submitted. What tools do you need at that point? I've just put dudes on the ground, let them get up, and did it again until they fricked off.
I will say though that it is gravely important to learn to post up and prevent the guillotine choke. Pure wrestlers can be embarrassed with that one.

It's a good basis, but it's not everything. I started with wrestling in high school, and then picked up muay thai in college. You're right that wrestling gives you lots of control over their head and hands- if they let you get close enough (or can't stop you from closing the distance) to do so. There's no such thing as being "too solid to be knocked out" by a striker of equal skill to you if you aren't starting the fight attached to his hip. It's entirely reasonable to augment your abilities by practicing defending against punches and kicks, as well as landing a few of your own. This puts you in a position to be dominant even if you're in a situation where you need to do something a little more decisive than just putting an untrained fighter on the ground until he fricks off. I'm not trying to say that wrestling is bad- as your experience has shown, it is more than sufficient against people that don't know what they're doing. I'm just saying that it leaves wrestlers exposed in ways they need to address.

Kali should not be so low and definitely shouldn't be in the same tier as something like wing chun or any kind of karate.

Muay Thai and BJJ should both be below boxing but they in S-Tier. MMA (a striking art combined with a grappling one) should be in SS-Tier.

Also if you're going to lower Muay Thai's ranking because you'll 'likely be competing in a McDojo' then Karate and TKD belong at the lowest possible ranking due to the sheer over-saturation of bullshit gyms in the US.

Wouldn’t it depend on your leverages though? Hex bar deadlift makes me feel like I’m doing a standing leg press. I don’t feel anything in my hamstrings or erectors

Yes, there's variations on how you do the hex bar deadlift. I mostly use the low bar handles.

The vaccine program was a failure

Although it might be the best we have, it's a dud and working aged people of even average health never required it. The mandates were wrong and people were unnecessarily fired over it, especially now that no one even expects you to get boosters even though they've explicitly said you needed them because "the vaccine wears off and needs a top up for the new strains"

It's irrational to even believe you could have gotten a vaccine right the first time let alone one that was relatively rushed and whipped up in such a short time.
