emotional immaturity is the only worthy definition of both toxic masculinity or feminity
positive masculinity is about being self-sufficient and having pride in your efforts because of the good it brings

Every time I hear about a story from Diogenes’ life it changes. I read of this account in a book on Ancient Greece and he was washing cabbage when he was approached. Diogenes was told that if he cozied up to some political figure he wouldn’t be washing cabbage, to which he responded something to the effect of “and if you hadn’t cozied up to the king YOU would be washing cabbage.”

Recently I've been thinking a lot about a quote from Lou Ferrigno's dad in Pumping Iron. Whenever I don't feel like putting in the work I think of this quote.

"Don't ever feel sorry for yourself. If you're training hard he may be training twice as hard. You just have to keep coming back stronger. All the way. You'll never get this chance again."

            >do what you want - that is the ultimate answer to everything and anything else is someone trying to sell you something.
You may not realize this, but lots of people are responsible for other people. When people think about improving themselves, maybe they say "I want to beat that guy", but often what they really think is "I hope I'll be ready to take care of my parents when they get older", or "I wish to be reliable if tragedy comes to my family and/or friends".
It is important to enjoy the good times, you are right, this is why lots of culture developped harvest festivals and stuff like that. But when winter comes, you have to be ready. Think about the people growing your weed, make your acid, your MDMA, creating the music you enjoy. What is your place in all of this? Do you only take, consume, or do you also give, produce?
Also, you've been had. The first thing you said after your initial question is "just sit back". Why do you think you should sit back? Who would want to make you think that you should sit back, and for what reason? It was a competition for the driver seat, and he took it. In a funny coincidence, the layout of your post is just a green "he", followed by a space, followed by all your text. He comes first. He won the competition for the driver seat. You were forced to sat back, and now your only option is to try to relax, because you no longer have any control of the situation. I hope for you he has good intentions

thats true, and I dont really care. Compete with 500,000 normies for the same thing and you will be replacable. Cultivate value that is uniquely your own and you will be untouchable.

That was supposedly the original plan. At the last minute during the evacuation of documents and key personnel he decided that it would be more appropriate if he stayed in Berlin. The story is that he wanted to put on a regular uniform and make a suicidal charge with his last bodyguards when the soviets made it to his bunker, but changed his mind when he saw what the allied propaganda people had done to Mussolini's corpse.

I have no quote but it depends on your circumstance:
Do you have a girlfriend/wife and a family who loves you?

If so and you still feel this way then it's likely this quote

you need to ponder and find meaning find a philosophy to provide baseline meaning and then augment it with your personal touches to fit your personality. You should be able to be alone with your thoughts and have a deep and profound sense of belonging and comfort knowing that everything is as it should be and always has been.

However if you DON'T have a wife/girlfriend and a family who loves you... well duh the reason you feel fricking lonely is because you're simply fricking lonely.

Whoever wrote this quote failed neurochemistry 101. Dopamine isn't associated with reward, it's associated with anticipation.

It does mean it's extremely unlikely that he is wrong. It also means there is zero chance this dude failed neurochemistry 101, and may have even taught it at one of the best universities in the world.

The sentiment is good but I really wish zoomers would stop using "dopamine" incorrectly. He could literally rephrase that with "pleasure" instead of dopamine and it'd be 1000x more accurate.

Using the word "dopamine" as a stand-in for the word "pleasure" is utterly ridiculous and an appeal to reddit tier "OMG SCIENENCE" types who don't know and don't know a to know anything about actual neurochemistry.

While involved in reward and motivation, dopamine is NOT "the pleasure chemical". It is the primary neurotransmitter of the motor cortex. When an imbecile says "don't fap to save dopamine" or "don't fap to recover dopamine receptors" he is ignoring that fact that just standing up and jogging on the spot in your room release 100x more dopamine in the presynaptic cleft than does jerking off.

So why doesn't it [jogging] feel as good? because dopamine is simply not the magical "this chemical makes you feel good" thing that these disgusting reddit idiots think it is.

Dopamine is released in equal amounts during times of stress/punishment/anxiety as it is during pleasure. How's that for a mindfrick, redditor?

If you mean pleasure, say pleasure. Don't say "dopamine". And if you want to name a "magical feel good chemical" name beta-endorphin or morphine/heroin. Because at least those actually do functionally make you feel good no matter what and are always produced by the body when you feel good, as opposed to dopamine which is secreted whether or not you're running around, jerking off, being rejected by a girl you like, having sex or fired from your job.

God created a world where evil was an option, only so that good could exist. Without evil, there is no good, or any way to even discern what good means. Evil is the absence of good. Good is the absence of evil. Making the choice to do good, instead of evil even though evil is always an option, is where you will find that life is worth living after all, because the free will to choose good over evil is the meaning and purpose and duty of mankind.

                Anonymous

The problem is your words are contradictory, not that the omnipotence is the issue. If the terms good and evil are defined with reference to each other, it simply does not make sense, the way we've defined it, to create a world with good but no evil. Lets say he did create it. Good would have no meaning, nothing to compare it to. It wouldn't exist. It would then be a world of just unconscious animals I guess.

                Anonymous

Could he create such universe in which good could exist without reference to evil? And so that it made perfect sense for us? With omnipotence in mind, anything is possible. If we're talking about christianity specifically, why not just make a whole universe a heaven?

                Anonymous

Can you create a universe in which light can exist without reference to darkness? In that universe how would you define light. I'm not sure about the lore with Christianity, but just speculating about why God doesn't simply just exist in heaven with humans: It seems like there's a common theme in myths where immortals almost have a desire to feel mortal. Like there is a boring aspect to being immortal, or living in some heaven like world with no end, no real troubles. I guess perhaps God created the world to live through us, just for something to do? Or perhaps to test the validity of creation itself. Is Goodness and Love more powerful? Does existence validate itself?

I don't think you fully understand the concept of omnipotence. With that power in mind, ANYTHING is possible. Solid liquids, based reddit, 0$ in the US debt. If God truly has such power, it would be no problem, light without darkness, or good with no evil.
                >I guess perhaps God created the world to live through us, just for something to do? Or perhaps to test the validity of creation itself
That may be so, but it doesn't make existence less painful. Maybe he's an evil type of God, that likes to watch us squirm in pain. Or maybe the masochistic one, if he truly lives the life through us.

We have those, they're called solids. Good in the absence of evil is not good.

Yes, sure it would be possible to create a mankind without the free will to choose between evil and obedience, but that isn't the way God created us. If we choose to obey him, he wants us to do it by our own free will. You can't make someone love you. Love does not exist without the possibility of choice.

                That's a FOOLISH take.
God is indeed omnipotent, and he created the universe as he sees fit. You are a hilarious little man, shaking your fist at God and declaring that he made a mistake by not making people do good. God has not erred. In the beginning, according to scripture, life was much like heaven. God created things perfectly for man to enjoy and it was all "good". But God also gave man the possibility to choose evil by creating the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Thereby, he gave us free will. We chose evil. And we continue to choose evil as a collective every day.

I hate the use of the word dopamine or serotonin as a synonym for the word pleasure. I’m not a neuroscientist but I think the brain chemistry of a drug high is more complicated than an increase in the two neurotransmitters every norm I’ve knows the name of.

There has to be some connection, seen as all the most addictive drugs nicotine cocaine heroin alcohol meth all cause an increase in dopamine

        Anonymous

There is a connection, this is just an oversimplification. And pretty valueless. He is just using dopamine as a synonym for pleasure, which it is not.

Think about it nobody goes around thinking about how their behavior is effecting their neurotransmitters. He’s not going “damn doing all that coke is giving my brain to much dopamine and that’s not good.” No, he’s obviously saying the experienced pleasure from those activities is the problem, so why pretend he’s dealing with the issue at the neurotransmitter level.

          Anonymous

Disagree there bro. Regardless of whether he’d pass neurochemistry 101 the vast majority of people understand what he’s trying to say and he’s completely right. Stuff like drugs, porn, video games, etc. sap your drive and motivation. The right kind of pleasure involves getting a deserved reward at the end of hard purposeful work.

          >Think about it nobody goes around thinking about how their behavior is effecting their neurotransmitters. He’s not going “damn doing all that coke is giving my brain to much dopamine and that’s not good.”

          >No, he’s obviously saying the experienced pleasure from those activities is the problem, so why pretend he’s dealing with the issue at the neurotransmitter level.
That is actually wrong and its wrong in the sense that its completely 100% opposite of what he is saying wrong. He IS saying that the problem with these pleasure inducing things are the very neurological effects that happens trough the release of the neurotransmitters in the brain. That releasing a high amount of dopamine, (epinephrine and norepinephrine and so on) in the brain has negative impacts and affects on the person doing it. Its not that they take pleasure from it that is bad, its the after affects in the brain by the neurological underpinnings of happiness that is the problem.
