Post-Workout Emotions

After a hard workout I always feel amazing, then I drop hard and get depressed. Why is this? Am I working out too hard?

I also sometimes leave the gym feeling super angry for no reason.

The same happens to me and it’s because the gym is the highlight of my day. Then it’s doing extremely boring shit like work or school while resisting degenerate urges.

Same here, but I also wonder if there’s a hormonal issue. I feel like my mood is all over the place after gym.

Same, I often start to question why I'm doing it, especially my diet, and then the workout day comes and I look forward to give it all.
If there was a cure for this maybe I wouldn't be a fat frick.

There is no emotional release. Just like playing with a cat with a laser pointer, she gets going, her killer instincts and the evolutionary need for the hunt are activated, but there is no prey at the end. Thats why you should never use this on a cat, it cripples her emotionally.

What you crave is not the workout, but the reason WHY you exercise. Manual labor, killing someone in single combat, climbing a mountain. Hunting. Just lifting and looking into the mirror is not a reward we are evolutionary wired for.

I started to workout cause I wanted a girlfriend, but over a year later I’m still repulsive to women

Is this why I’m depressed? All this effort and no payoff?

Who cares, work out because it's good for you. You challenge yourself and grow, you fail, have setbacks but still try. Our bodies are ment for movement, it''s beautiful to push the limit and see what you can do with your body with some discipline, effort and hard work.
        Lifting changed my life.

Do not lift for girls alone. Girls come and go, but lifting is forever.

Unironically learn to talk to women. Having confidence and being able to communicate with them regularly literally puts you leagues above most guys under 30. You really wouldn't believe how many guys can't talk to a women normally, even if they aren't so interested in dating them. They either are nervous/awkward, forcing conversation, or trying to fake confidence.

It's not about learning how to "game" women or anything, just have regular casual talks with lots of different women frequently and it becomes easy. I learned by taking a sales job, and while I hated it, it gave me great conversation skills, but took a long time to really work things out.

If you sit here just trying to maximize looks, sure it will help, but you need to also spend a lot of time improving your communication skills.

What about play? Animals play fight and play hunt. Just like animals have killer instincts animals also have play instinct. This is why humans can play with other animals and animals can play with other species because we all share the brain circuits and behavior for rough and tough play.

It's just your body trying to return to normal, and trying to balance itself, the human body tries to reach homeostasis at all times. This is why you sometimes feel awful after a mind blowing orgasm.
In BDSM this is called a sub drop.

    Her insta btw?

When I was a kid my dad would scream at me in these weird perpetual lectures about my personal failings, and expect me to show zero emotion, if I cried or showed sadness it would get way worse. I attribute this to my inability to cry or feel much of anything besides sort of numb boredom and deep anguish these days.
Which has been a major career benefit so I guess I understand why he did it.
But there have been moments where it would have been appropriate to cry or genuinely express sadness and I would have liked to, but I couldn't because there was sort of nothing in the barrel, so I had to fake it, which puts people off.
So I haven't cried for years, basically since those events as an eight or nine year old.
Six or seven months ago I'm rowing, hitting sub 1:55 splits on a 5k, listening to some extremely depressive music, and I finish out the 5k and next thing I know I'm on all fours on the floor just sobbing, and it lasts for about half an hour just listening to that music trying to get my heartrate down, totally confused and wrecked with all the sadness I've ever experienced, and as soon as I feel like it's over the mass of human suffering occurs to me and I'm sobbing again.
Weird as frick but I'm glad it happened. I think emotional release is good for you. Definitely helped me feel like I wasn't some kind of robot for a little while. Still chase that dragon a little bit.

Maybe because you gave your everything into that 5K your body didn't have the resources to withhold your subconscious that time. It is healthy you released it.

For your consideration, this is my advice:

    1) The human mind is a chemical balancing act inside. We have a wienertail of chemicals that our brain dumps into our bloodstream during a workout, and you feel the effects.
    2) Being the balancing machine that it is, the brain notices the increased levels of things like dopamine, seratonin, all kinds of stuff, and then it crafts another wienertail of chemicals to put into the bloodstream to counter the first wienertail in an attempt to balance you out back to zero again.
    3) This process doesn't work with 100% efficiency, and depending on the person, the body can give you too much of the counter-dopamine type of drugs, and it makes you depressed.
    4) Not that I'm advocating developing some stupid chemical dependency on a prescription from a psychiatrist, but look into SSRI antidepressants, and buy some herbal forms of these drugs.
    5) Take these substances just before and/or just after your workouts, in attempt to block the chemicals your body is trying to compensate your happiness with.
