You are burning more cals than you need and burn fat while asleep.

You always have insulin in your blood, idiot. So there goes that talking point out of window.

I should have said high levels not basal.

          https://i.imgur.com/K9d14YG.png

Your body is permanently, constantly burning a mixture of fat and glucose for energy. The ratio changes but you're always using both. You've been bamboozled by low-carb YouTube grifters talking about mUh rAnDLe cYcLe into believing that you actually "switch" between fat-burning and glucose-burning modes. Lmao at you.

Not at all. The hormones operate on different pathways. Insulin is anabolic= growth. Hgh side is catabolic= breaking down of tissue. You do that mostly at night. But you can do that during the day if you dont constantly spike insulin. If you have any carbs your body will always use the glycogen stores in muscles and liver and any sugar in your blood before touching fat stores, that is a fact anon. When you spike insulin you shut off fat burning pathways, that is a metabolic fact anon.

Completely wrong. Like I said, the ratio may change, but you are constantly using a mixture of fuels in your body. You are never using ONLY glucose or ONLY fat for energy. Your body doesn't work like that. It isn't a binary choice, it's a dynamic equilibrium that can shift more towards one or the other but it's always using both.

It isnt. You will only use fat if you have no stored energy in muscle or liver. Hence thats what you run off while asleep. The point of low carb is so youre in that state during the DAY aswell. Thats why is so fast for FATloss not weightloss which is water/glycogen and fat.

Sounds like complete bullshit. Plenty of people that lift on little to no food in the morning. Fat cannot power the ATP regeneration cycle required for anaerobic effort. You don't glycogen deplete from sleeping, what they ate the day before is powering them.

Atp is created from afew things, amino acids, sugars, etc its nit complete bullshit. You have alot energy stored in your liver and muscles.

                Anonymous

Yes, you have around 2000kcal of energy in your glycogen reserves, so much that it isn't depleted overnight, in fact a higher ratio of your energy comes from fat than sugar overnight since you're not anaerobic.
It takes 50-120 minutes of intense, hard, anaerobic activity to deplete your glycogen, and once that happens your body STILL burns sugar for fuel by breaking down your muscles for glucogenic amino acids.

Anon, even on a zero carbohydrate diet your body replenishes its glycogen reserves from dietary protein. You're still using a mixture of glucose and fat for fuel when on a low carb diet because your red blood cells ONLY use glucose and your fast twitch muscles prefer it so much that your body will break down protein structures(ie muscle) to access glucogenic amino acids

                >dietary protein
This is wrong, there is no pathway in human gastrointestinal system to convert amino acids readily to glucose like carnivores do. In abscence of glucose from diet the only way for humans to synth it is from existing tissue ie breaking down muscle and organs (which is why starved humans usually die from heart attack because heart muscle got autocannibalized despite still having fat reserves). Rest of your post checks out.

On the flipside if what you are saying is true, carbs are indirectly anabolic. I've also heard that they are directly anabolic and stimulate protein synthesis, also bodybuilders frick with insulin injections so has to be something behind it.

Nope, doesn't happen like that either. Kidneys especially simply filter excess aminos out which is why meat-heavy diet destroys them.

                > Lipids are simply absorbed from bloodstream because cell walls are lipid
But that's wrong. Lipids are transported in the blood by lipoproteins (aka serum cholesterol). Insulin stimulates production of lipoprotein lipase, which sits on the outside of the blood vessel cells, and releases the contents of your blood lipoproteins so that they can be absorbed by your cells.

Not nearly all lipids are packed in cholesterol. You'd get acute hypercholesterolia response to spoonfull of butter if it did and it's not a thing.

                https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3068502/#:~:text=Renal%Gluconeogenesis

                >Not nearly all lipids are packed in cholesterol
If course, some short and medium chain fatty acids exist as free particles in the blood, but long chain fatty acids can only enter the blood in lipoproteins. Besides, the salient point is that you claimed insulin has no effect on fat absorption into cells, which is simply incorrect, as insulin upregulates lipoprotein lipase.

During the postabsorptive phase, glutamine and alanine incorporation to renal gluconeogenesis was reported to respectively account for 73 and 4% of their overall incorporation into glucose [15]. These findings clearly demonstrate that gluconeogenesis from glutamine occurs primarily in the kidney

Just google does insulin inhibit fat burning kek

          >Because one of insulin’s vital roles in the body relates to fat storage: it inhibits the breakdown of fat cells and stimulates the creation of body fat. That is,insulin tells the body to stop burning its fat storesand instead, absorb some of the fatty acids and glucose in the blood and turn them into more body fat.

            Anonymous

Anon, inhibit in this context does mean STOP completely. Your enzymes and hormones are never switched off or on completely, they are just up regulated or down regulates to increase or decrease the rate of a given set of reactions.
It just down regulates it, reduces it. Like I said in my original post, the ratio of fuel sources changes within your body, but even a hyper-insulin resistant fatty is still burning a non-zero amount of fat for energy.

It happens because people try low carb and lose a bunch of weight because
      >they lose water weight
      >they lose muscle
And this gives them positive feedback. They are exhilarated to see the pounds dropping fast and their clothes fitting better, so they are more motivated to eat less. They may enter ketosis (rarely) which also decreases appetite. Also, cutting out an entire macronutrients tends to keep calories low.

But they are moronic and don’t understand CICO. They say they do but add “it’s not so simple moron” (because they can’t bear to think that they were duped by a moronic fad diet and simply lost weight because they ate less). So their brain comes up with anything:
      >hurrr durrr thermic effect!
      >insulin
      >ketone bodies have unique properties that cause bliss and mental health!
In reality, protein, fiber and water are the only things that cause a thermos effect. Insulin just shuttles fat into tissues and plays no significant role in weight loss or gain, and they probably have never been in ketosis.

The best way to lose weight is to decrease calories by about 250-500 below maintenance, keep protein high (to preserve muscle mass), eat high volume, high fiber foods (to keep be satiated). Eat fruits and veggies so you get your micronutrients. Potatoes are a very nice way to achieve weight loss.

        Carbs do too

No it doesnt, insulin plays zero role in that. Lipids are simply absorbed from bloodstream because cell walls are lipid, it's passive (and the reason why highfat diets cause insulin resistance and atherosclerosis). Insulin only inhibits release of fatty acids to some extent.

I have found, just as a general thing in life, that the most profitable things are pushed heavily, and the least profitable things pushed the least. Grains and potatoes can be produced cheaply and easily by companies that make lots of profit. Meat requires raising animals. Therefore, grains will always be pushed into our diets. This happens in many areas of life.

As a medical scientist I'm baffled by the lack of general knowledge and amount idiots here on the board. And yes, OP is right. High insulin levels also block fat cell receptors and no fat can come out of the cell, so in case blood sugar goes down you can't access fat energy reserves easily and you effectively starve.

You contradicted yourself here, or your sentencing is really fricking terrible.

        Anonymous

It maybe is terrible since English is my third language. Let me rephrase: blood sugar goes down when you use energy. If you are not constantly refilling with sugar or other carbs (and therefore keeping insulin even higher), blood sugar is more difficult to maintain throughout the exercising time. If you have generally low insulin levels you can more easily transition between sugar/fat energy because of metabolic flexibility. This is not a 1/0 mechanic and without carbs it's hard to gain weight. But the more carbs you consume, the more insulin spikes you will have with all the negative implications for your overall health/energy, more fatigue etc. Just research correlation between insulin/aging/regeneration etc. It's also more oxidative stress for your mitochondria to constantly burn sugar while you have no maintenance phases (eg fasting). (Mitochondrial decoupling)

What are fat stores? When are they for? Your body doesnt just dip into them whenever it wants, they are for certain situations, like when asleep. You havent ever been single digit or even low double digits of body fat if you think that, same as having a good amount of muscle. You have to do things to gain and keep muscle size via diet. Same as fatloss, being lean while holding onto muscle. I like both diets but FATLOSS is easier on low carb/carb cycling diets than higher carb high protein. It is.

Keto is good for weight loss, especially if you were fat whole life and your body is really insulin resistant. If you go down to normal weight I think you can start eating carbs again but... gotta be careful not to fail into the same bad eating habits that made you fat in the first place

hope this is not too nuanced for this board

      Anonymous

I agree. I mean, I think people start low carb and then go keto just due to impatience. Low carb has some effect but takes longer. Then, either low carb or keto people can start eating big amounts of carbs without issue as long as they don’t do it regularly. Then there is difference between highly active people who can eat some more carbs vs office worker etc.

I speak from own experience. I was 170kg (mega fat) and went down to 130kg in about a year on keto. It was very easy for me, because besides sweets and soda I almost ate keto already. Just had to cut down on bread and pasta.

Now it's another year and I've been lifting. I'm still on keto but nut super strict, I eat probably around 50g of carbs a day. I still don't eat bread or pasta or potatoes, don't feel any desire for them.

Yes and that is why it's so fricking annoying.
              >CICO is bullshit
              >Look I lost weight on a keto diet
Keto works because yes, meat tends to give the best satiety per calorie. That's why it works, you are reducing your calorie intake drastically. But there are negatives to cutting out carbs completely, and that was never the driving force behind the weight loss, the calorie reduction was.
Then there's the garden variety autism that conflates CICO with that it implies that you can and eat whatever you want, and then attack that strawmen. Yes, you can theoretically lose weight on 1000kcal a day of the worst dietary choices possible. That weight loss will have horrible fat/muscle ratio's, you'll feel like shit and your body will probably become unhealthier and atrophy in multiple ways.
Literally just don't be a fricking idiot, eat whole foods in normal portions, avoid alcohol and snacks and losing fat is extremely simple. There is no need for a cult following to any fad diet, the principle of better diet + calorie restriction is simple, well understood and works.

Well, I'm not that kind of guy. I don't claim keto is magic. Keto is just easy to maintain. Although keto does have one benefit. Restricting carbs can reverse insulin resistance. If you were not a lardlord like me your whole life it's no concern for you but keto can literally save people frim diabetes. After you reach your healthy weight (and learn good eating practices in general) you can go back to eating carbs. That's what I did, although I still don't eat potatoes or bread on the regular. Not because of restricting myself but because I don't feel like eating these things anymore.

Hugh fat ketogenic diets increase insulin resistance, it just masks the symptoms because you dont need as much insulin. Thats not the same thing.

Keto is good, I started doing it few months ago, I am 164 cm tall but had 100kg. Now I am 87kg. I don't eat potatoes, white bread, white rice or pasta. I eat moderate amount of fruits (only because of vitamins).
I am not saying carbs are bad for you but as another anon said, there are people who spend 8 hours doing office work like me (engineer), so I don't need as much carbs as someone who spends their entire day doing physical labor.
I haven't eaten sugar or any carby/starchy food ever since I started keto and while the first month was the most shittiest one, I got used to it. When I reach my optimal weight (68kg) I might slowly reintroduce carby food like potato again

Boiled potatoes eaten by themselves destroy my blood sugar levels. Same with sultanas. I remember as a kid being given packs of sultanas to eat and I observed it way back then. Now you can argue about “well eat it with other foods”, but this rationale seems wrong to me. If a food fricks with you by itself, there is something wrong with it.

I'm 180cm, was 170kg, went down to 130kg with just diet and now I'm at 107kg (but I've been lifting for ~8months so there's a lot of new muscle). No Idea how many kcals I consumed before my diet but on the diet I was around 2300 - 1700 kcal. I would recalculate my macros every 2-3 months and I tracked everything to autistic detail for about 8 months. After that point I was just eating what I thought was the right amount and apparently I was right since I was still getting more fit.

Believe me I was, here was my diet before keto

              >Breakfast from bakery, or the local sandwhich shop + yogurt
              >On my lunch break I would eat their daily meal which is something like cream chicken with rice or breaded pork cut with mashed potatoes + bread + salad
              >desert I ate one frozen yogurt
              >dinner was a bread with something on it, either sweet or savory depends on my mood

And on top of that I would drink juice instead of water. Overall my diet had barely any protein and was 90% carbs. You can see why I had 100kg

My optimal kcal intake is actually 1600 kcal so yes, 2000 kcal is too much, also yes I am a manlet

There are many factors that affect the taste of potatoes, such as soil type, climate, cooking method and personal preference. However, some general guidelines are:

If you like purple or blue potatoes, you can try Adirondack Blue, Magic Molly or Purple Majesty. They have a unique color and a firm texture that is good for baking, roasting or mashing1.
If you like yellow or buttery potatoes, you can try Carola, Daisy Gold or Yukon Gold. They have a creamy and moist flesh that is good for boiling, mashing or frying12.
If you like white or all-purpose potatoes, you can try Kennebec, Masquerade or Maris Piper. They have a smooth and light skin and a versatile texture that is good for almost any dish134.

What point? That water is a poison? You sound like an idiot. Solanine is categorized as a poison at any quantity.

I accidentally started a low carb (not keto) diet by eating nothing but burgers every day and it changed my body and strength levels (and I assume hormone levels) completely. I used to eat the "healthy" diet, because I trusted the authorities. Eventually, I stopped trusting everything I read and worked shit out for myself. It is all a lie. You will find out one day. Either that or you will live a life of mediocre health when you are young, and terrible health when you are old.

this is the depressed attitude you get on high carb once diabetes sets in. sad to see, but not really because people deserve their fate.

10 out of 10 people shortly quit keto because it makes everyone trying it sick. Yet for whatever reason this place is full of shills like you saying it totally works bruhhhh. Yet your kind does not exist anywhere IRL. What motivates you to lie here?

I don't see how the "mediterrainian diet" is low carb. It specifically says to avoid dairy and fatty meat other than fish and olive oil. So... they must just eat nothing but salmon and put olive oil on everything they consume to get enough fat to be considered low carb.

whats the verdict on white/brown rice?

White is more digestible, easier to eat, goes better with dishes, better for bulking.
Brown has more protein, is more satiating, tastes worse, has phytic acid, better for cutting if you like it? I still prefer potatoes for both.

I take days off of potato consumption just to make it a bit easier on my competition. All the potassium making life so easy, got damn. Ketoschizos missing out on carb power.

    >>no other macronutrients
    >>it makes you even more hungry
    so insulin goes up
Do idiots actually believe this? The potato is the most satiating food there is.

How many potatoes, what type of potatoes, what was the rest of their diet, how much exercise did they do.

I am not exaggerating when I say that high carb diets are the cause of all problems in the world, and also on other planets.
