15 years ago I worked out at a strongman gym, the owner always put on Hammerfall when he arrived.
He used steroids and amphetamines, so no one dared to change the music.

Tales definitely has some great tracks, but for me it doesn't come close to Nightfall's banger after banger after banger. Also I'm a sucker for concept albums.

Kings of Nordic Kino coming through. Olaf Hayer's voice in Luca's solo stuff is so fucking good, I'd put it on par or even above Fabio Lione in Rhapsody.
That ending run from the D5 up to the eventual F5 is so fucking powerful. Shame he's never been in any bands long-term enough to have more live performances out there to watch

You guys might like the first Galaktikon album. It's Brendan Small, the Metalocalypse/Dethklok guy, but don't let that dissuade you, their first album has some sweet licks with clean rock vocals, with an epic space theme, definite power-metal vibes.
(They have a second album too but Small went back to Nathan Explosion cookie-monster vocals on some songs, not my taste anymore sorry dude.)
>the Metalocalypse/Dethklok guy
Do people not like him? I though the music he made for the show was pretty tight even if I found the show itself boring.
Sorry, to clarify--people do like him, but I just meant don't assume that Galaktikon is a "parody cartoon band" like Dethklok, the first Galaktikon album is a solid offering and stands on its own. I first knew Small as the "Home Movies" guy, great to see him out there as a first-rate rock musician too.
Hard to imagine. I know a former touring bassist who tells stories of soaking his hands in ice buckets after rock gigs (occasionally bleeding even with years of callouses). There's gotta be a whole therapy regimen for guarding against RSI with these guys doing extended double-bass drum blasts.
I play bass and guitar, RSIs are my nightmare, that's why I follow an extremely autistic rotation of instruments, just a subtle difference in the neck or pickup placement makes a world of difference.
(this is likely placebo)
Guitar, piano and bass here. Recently got into actually playing bass properly with fingers and recording some power metal tracks, my fucking god. I can tremolo pick for semi-quavers at 200BPM all day long, do all sorts of cool alternate picking patterns and play some fairly hard Beethoven stuff on piano, but just keeping a constant rhythm with fingers on a bass playing quavers along a 180bpm song is a workout and a half.
>piano
Nice, I just got a MIDI keyboard just yesterday, got any courses you would rec? Also enjoy the forearm pump after a bass session, it's the best part

No courses as such. If your theory is already good then piano should basically make sense, just start playing some songs you want to play and look at some videos for wrist position (really important to to not strain them) and ways to finger scales properly etc then you should be able to go from there.
If your theory isn't great then some grade books could help.
Threadly reminder to find a cherry vintage Firebird NOW so that you can still get in a couple decades of mullet-headed, tank-topped, mirror-shaded 80s metal larping in (before the gasoline ban and the demise of American car culture).
Alternatively, for the true power metal enthusiast, you may also acquire a custom van with Dragon and/or Wolf murals. Bonus points for bikini babes spray painted with questionable knowledge of female anatomy.
Has anyone else tried listening to power metal in the bathroom? Trust me, you've never really taken a shit until you've felt that your shit was the key to victory in a centuries-long war against the dark elves and their volcano monsters.
>power metal thread on IST
BASED. My favorites are bands like Iced Earth and Dark Empire that have a more heavy/thrash style with their power metal. My favorite song is the first link, I literally never have a bad set when it comes on. It's so fucking high energy I could listen to it for my entire workout.
>Has eyes but can't see mount Tai
You fail to recognize the lyrical genius and metaphysical themes of the celestial divine supreme heavenly glory and power.
I liked OP's suggestion, but I'm not always in the mood to hear someone who sounds like they're straight out of Lord of the Rings. Which power metal bands have an American accent?
I prefer the higher octaves of power metal singing than any other metal genre. It's less exhausting to listen to for long periods, and you can actually understand what the singer is fucking saying. Still if you want more neutral/deeper octaves >iced earth >sabaton >masterplan >visigoth >dark lunacy >dark empire, especially the first album >same singer also does persuader/savage circus >iron savior

was his name michael by any chance
Nope, Magnus.
> Magnus.
Yeap, not going to mess with that fella.
>Ripped guy named Magnus who listens to power metal
Probably a viking that got transported to the 21st century
Hammerfall fucking rocks
I WILL SEARCH FOR THE EEEEEEEEMERALD SWOOOOOOOOOORD
Album is pure kino

FIIIRE IS BLAZING FAST ACROSS THE BLOODY RED SEA

THESE ARE THE WIZARD'S LAST HOLY SIGHTS
THE POEM'S TRAGIC RHYYYYYYYYYMES
FOR THE KINGGG
FOR THE LAAAND
FOR THE MOUNTAINSSS
FOR THE GREEEEEN VALLEYS WHERE DRAGONS FLY
Something about it being mispronounced makes it extra cheesy to sing.
Anyway for me it's Beast in Black
STEEEEEEEEEL
ALL AROUND
FOR THE KIIIIIING
AND HIS CROWN
For me it's Majesty from Blind Guardian
Although you could do anything from them really, they're God tier workout music
yeah theyre the goat
i blast pic related for cardio all the time
For me it's Nightfall in Middle-Earth, the best power metal album of ALL time.
>not Tales from the Twilight World
Tales definitely has some great tracks, but for me it doesn't come close to Nightfall's banger after banger after banger. Also I'm a sucker for concept albums.
This man is posting facts.
Exquisite taste.
Brothers. Imagine your self as Fingolfin fighting Morgoth.
TIME STANDS STILL ON THE IRON HILL.
Thanks bros, these threads are great, always leave with new things in my playlist.
This. I get better reccs from IST than I do from IST.
People who define themselves as "into music" are fucking gay. IST has the worst taste in music I've ever seen.
>Doing deadlifts
>Listening to death metal
No issues here
NSBM would go well
Absurds "new" album really rocks
one of my favorite 2022 albums

I would work there for free (well not really but its still a dope idea)

Favourite Rhapsody album, bros?
Me "Triumph or Agony".
Symphony of Enchanted lands and Dawn of Victory are their most solid work.
But I love Power of the Dragonflame and Legendary Tales too.
Dawn of Victory is literally all killer no filler, hands down one of the best power metal album of all time
Saw them sunday past week with Kamelot.
Mosh pit is a hell of a workout
HE'S THE ONE PURE IN HIS HEART...
WOAH-OH-OOOOAAAWWWWW-AW-AW-AWWWWWWWWW-AWWW-AWW-HEEH
FUCK I forgot about this album. Definitely rocking this tomorrow thanks anon
my alltime favorite preworkout song

Oh fair enough, I just can't keep up with which celebrities the Internet is upset with so I figured I'd ask. Thanks for the rec man.

baka bros you know better than this
I can't seem to love his music but Smalls is an extremely talented man
I really liked this and the Dethklok stuff, Bloodlines is one of my favorites.
kino
fucking hell imagine the calf gains of the drummer after playing this
Hard to imagine. I know a former touring bassist who tells stories of soaking his hands in ice buckets after rock gigs (occasionally bleeding even with years of callouses). There's gotta be a whole therapy regimen for guarding against RSI with these guys doing extended double-bass drum blasts.
They should just wear gloves if they bleed that much.

That's Hannes Grossmann. He's my favorite drummer of all time.

Yup
>anvil in last chorus
Okay you won me over.
I have a confession to make Eurobros: deep down I've always preferred American Power Metal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNJ35z2D38E
Omen is more of a traditional heavy metal band and US has quite a few good ones too. Manilla Road for example is peak heavy metal.
>WAR OF THE UNIVEEEEERSE
>OF COSMIC EEEEENERGIES
>THE PHANTOMS RIIIIIIDING
>THE GENESIS OF AAAAALL
sucks that most gyms I've been to play shitty rap music
holy

I've never heard of this before. This is absolutely fucking incredible.
thank you for gracing me with this, OP
Jesus, thanks for reminding me, I gotta go listen to some Rhapsody, Savatage and Children of Bodom.

Gamma Ray anyone?
Somewhere Out In Space is a great album! Classic.
because Americans are blacked and only listen to rap now. Seriously. Ask any American.
While euros listen to subhuman balkanite rap and allahuackbar. Metal only exists in small pockets of middle aged bros.
You have literally never been to western europe have you?
Nobody listens to metal anymore only old farts. Every gig i went had like 20 people and almost all of them were 30+.
>old farts
>30+
no cap bruh fr fr did u heard the latest lil yachty drop? shit was bussin ong
>allahuackbar
Ah yes my favourite genre
Idk what else to call it. Middle eastern music and local variants that are made to sound like it but dubbed.
>and only listen to hiphop now
FTFY.
Hip-hop is the pop music version of rap. It's for the artists that weren't good enough to be rappers.

Sonata Arctica bros, where you at?
