Not OP but what are your thoughts on this pasta i make?
Its two pounds of 80/20 beef
Two pounds of penne or spaghetti
And two or three cans of tomato sauce
I also put a tablespoon of salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder
Its real cheap and I get three days of meals from it
I also drink diet sodas with it and Parmesan cheese

I bring protein bars with me when I travel for work. Breakfast is really fricking hard unless you're willing to spend tons of money at a cafe, but meanwhile a single protein bar has 45 g of protein for only 300 cal.

You don't need that much protein. Just eat a normal breakfast. Trust me, your kidneys will thank me later.

          >A normal breakfast
What should I eat for breakfast instead? Remember that my alternatives are spending $25 at a cafe or bringing some other kind of uncooked food from home.
I tend to have 1.5 bars for breakfast, which is about 67.5g of protein. It's actually really hard to get enough protein when you're forced to eat takeaways for lunch and dinner, so I try to get extra protein with breakfast.

How did you get out of it? I’ve been in a perpetual binge restrict cycle for probably 6 months now and I’ve gotten to a point where I don’t want to bulk because I’ve gained some fat from binging, but I pretty much have 0 faith in myself to commit to a cut for more than 2-3 weeks at this point, so I’ve just been staying basically the same and obsessing about food for months

Pt2 I feel like I can’t just eat at maintenance anymore either because just the idea of restricting food at this point is driving me crazy but the idea of eating at a surplus or just taking a break from diet altogether and gaining fat is legitimately horrifying as someone whose been chubby before

The key to recovery is an unconventional thought in a psychological state that you're in right now, which is a sort of flight or fight response mode. You are afraid of gaining weight, so you restrict, and because you restrict, and you have restricted so chronically, your hormones have been suppressed, and your body craves the nutrition, and so you end up binging, which leads you to keep restricting and then thinking about food causing anxiety and the cycle repeats. It's a tragic cycle that's going to go on and on until you start eating at maintenance for any length of time. The reason you keep thinking about food is because you're essentially starving yourself and your body is craving it. There have been starvation experiments in people and when they are deprived of half of their daily calorie requirements, they start talking about food, eating it extremely slowly when they do get it to save her more of it and reading cookbooks and looking up pictures of it. Things like that. These are all part of anorexia and other eating disorders. What you need to do is calculate your energy expenditure and start eating at or slightly above your calorie needs in order to refeed your body and get it recalibrating to eating a normal diet. Get a ballpark for what your body needs based on your calculations and observations when constructing your meals, and then start to generally put together meals without weighing or measuring food based on your experiences. Recovery is part of rehabilitating both your mental state, which is obsessed with counting and restricting, and your emotional and hormonal state, which is in flux because of your constant over and under eating. When you work on both of them simultaneously, in tandem, your life will smooth out much easier.

Interesting. That all makes sense and I definitely do all the things that the experiment people did. How long did it take you to fix your hormones and cravings? Cus I’ve literally never experienced these feelings in my life until the last 6-9 months maybe when they slowly started creeping in and now I’m basically at rock bottom emotionally when it comes to dieting

                Anonymous

Not the anon you’re talking to but I’d say just take a break from dieting for a few weeks if it’s causing you this much stress. Worst case scenario you gain a few pounds but binging and restricting is unironically doing way more damage to your body than eating unrestricted for a little bit will. In a few weeks once you feel better about food you can try to get shredded again. It’s either that or you can continue living in this cycle and getting more and more depressed and disordered about food

You have to realize if youve been chronically dieting and binging and things like that it will take time to rebalance your body. I would say it took me about a year to mentally and physically rebalance myself to where I Didnt worry about calories and things like that, but I was anorexic for many years and in a deep depression, and previous to that I was obese due to a medication problem. It will take more time deoensin on how long youve been restricting.

I'll consider seeking medical intervention when my health goes from "stable" to catastrophic. If it is working for me currently, I'll keep doing it, even if it isn't practical or beneficial in the long term. I can eat a wide range of food. If my coworkers go to the pub, I can eat a chicken parmigiana alongside a pint before heading home and drinking additional pints + water, but I have acclimatised to the foods that I am used to so I can live with it.

I can eat a salad once in a while. If I make a salad, I use iceberg lettuce, dried garlic flakes, pepper (ground), kosher salt, and vinegar. I don't add oil because I think it tastes bad on salad. Still, on my insane diet, the only downside is my mood swings and occasional fits of rage, which is odd because I was not an irritable person while I was fat. Oh well, if I am at home and I stub my toe on my couch, I just go apeshit and start trashing the place like a rabid chimp. I once got so enraged that I fricking threw my 30kg Ottoman couch into my brick wall and broke it. The reason for this mental episode was that I ran into my glass sliding wall and hit my nose so I had to take out my anger on my furniture. There is probably a correlation to what I eat and how I behave at home, thank God I live alone, I could not bare my family seeing me like this.
