so would urban hunting be a good way of getting free protein? By that I mean hunting pigeons and squirrels by chucking rocks at them or maybe with an air rifle? What are the chances that I get aids and die from eating a city pigeon? I'm vaxxed against rabies btw.
Why don't you just go to a butcher's shop?
Cause it's way too expensive.
I just don't want you to get squirrelpox
Are squirrels high risk of disease or something? What about crows or pigeons?
There is a farmers market that's held every wednesday here, I went to have a look but everything was more expensive then in the grocery store, same with butcher shops, I think it's a bit different here because we only produce luxury pork and a small amount of chicken and since it's a small poor country most of it gets exported.
Crow will taste nasty, pigeons too unless you feed them for a bit to clean them out. Squirrel should be fine.
I don't think I can keep pigeons in my apartment, no pets allowed, pretty sure that extends to farming them too. What else could I hunt, don't see squirrels that often, would getting a fishing license be worth it? I heard they are super expensive but it's a one time payment, might save a lot of money.
>no pets allowed
Livestock aren't pets. Spend 20 years in court with your landlord when he shits and cries about your farm
Pretty sure capturing wild pigeons to farm is illegal anyways.
>involving the government in your diet
The government would get itself involved once my landlord sues me for farming chickens in the apartment, sadly the israelite fears the indoor farmer.
*pigeons, farming pigeons
Plenty of them will give you scraps and bones for free or just a few cents.
Buy whole carcasses from your local farmers out of city. Meat is so cheap directly from farmers, it only gets expensive once grocery store manager dweebs get their hands on the processed product. This is illegal though, its like buying weed when it wasn't legal.
What are you buying exactly?
Right now I get most of my protein from low fat milk, chicken and peas, since that's the cheapest here, but the price of food just doubled again.
I don't think you'll get sick unless you try to eat them medium rare or something. A better question is how you expect to hunt in the city. You're better off learning to fish or breeding rabbits in your room.
A fishing license may be worth it, idk it's pretty expensive and you have to renew it a lot, plus there is a limit on fish and you have to get fishing equipment too, my lease doesn't allow pets so no to that. I expect to hunt in the big ass local park, there are basically no people around at like 6 o'clock and the trees give coverage against people looking out from high up windows. I could also probably hike to the nearby forest which is like an hour away, although I would have to look out for rangers there.
Do you actually need a license for simple fishing with a literal stick, line and some worms? Seems crazy.
get a fishing license. if you're brave/insane go look up how to catch and kill sleeping geese at night. Believe it or not it is actually legal to catch and kill geese that live in local parks as long as you have a hunting license and obey the rules.
If I could get a hunting license I would, but even one that just allows you to trap animals is crazy expensive, and forget getting a firearms license unless you know someone or are part of an exclusive hunters club, also I would need a safe to store the gun and ammo.
Bowhunt homie
On the fishing and hunting parts - it's only illegal if you get caught.
What is actually the endgame here, will prices go back to normal or will we just have to stop eating animal based products?
>fishing
>hunting
>growing bunnyrabbits for meat
>growing chickens for eggs
>growing insects for protein
Only other option is to get more money or move away from that urban hellscape.
>go to farm like 20km outside of my city
>they grow puy style lentils (taste the best) and hemp seed
>ask if they could fill my Bicycle trailer with lentils and hemp seed
>puts a 100kg bag of lentils in it
>and 3 5kg bags of hemp seed
>pay like 300Euro for everything
that's around 27kg of Protein
or 11Euro per kg of Protein
Hello, I hate the government and their masters
