push ups

Are push-ups alone enough to get jacked? I’m doing like 150 push ups a day now and I’m noticing my muscles being more even.

He's right. After a certain volume you ought to add weight

You don't need to add weight, just put your feet higher.. or do slower push ups.. push ups where you hold when down.. there is so much you can do, just find a homosexual that does calisthenics and ask him

150 isn't much. if I was strictly doing pushups I would be aiming to do 500+ a day.

I don't know how you guys even reach 50+ pushups without sacrificing form let alone 150. Or is perfect form not even a part of criteria of what makes a good workout. Just do follow some calisthenics progression program if it is too easy for you to do push ups.

If pushups where enough why would we bother paying for a gym.

      Here's the answer

I have noticed that push-ups give me a nice pump, even more so than the bench press, even though obviously they aren't nearly as effective for actual hypertrophy. So I finish my chest/shoulders workout with push-ups until failure to give that last push on what the muscles have left.

You're not going to get a lot of agreement here, but honestly push-ups and bodyweight rows are enough for upper body if you're lazy. Your shoulders will be underdeveloped though. Also, don't forget that you have legs.

      >Your shoulders will be underdeveloped though.
This is true. You should also do bear crawls and some form of raised leg push up. Still won't be as effective as the OHP but there's zero chance of cracking your skull open.

Yes, if you eat enough and go to near failure in each set and you also do pull ups and something for your legs. Look at K Boges on YouTube. I would say he's jacked but some of the skinny fat lurkers here who have never worked out in their lives would disagree. Here's the thing though, you cannot measure calisthenics in total volume throughout the day. If you do 5 pushups every half hour you aren't going to trigger more of a muscle building response than doing 3 sets of 30. The reps that count are the ones near failure.

Either add weight or do variations, reps above like 20 are just cardio

Mess with angles and time under tension. But your feet up on a chair and focus on counting a full two seconds on the way down and hold. You won't gain mass, but you'll get decently strong doing calisthenics this way

Pushups are GOAT but you will develop muscular imbalances and frick your elbows and shoulders up if you're doing that much pushing with no pulling. Do an equal amount of pushups and chinups.

No? Are you dumb? They only work a few muscle groups
You will never ever look jacked unless every muscle in your body is built

You can add weight to pushups, ya know.

No. I thought I could do this as I have Asperger’s syndrome and thus cannot see things that are obvious to others. Just go to the gym it’s actually quite enjoyable. If you find cardio boring just put on a long YouTube video essay you can listen to.

You gym has equipment that you do not. My local gym has a machine that sends an electric current through your body to determine your level of visceral fat. Also the gym has compound lift machines, which you most likely do not.

Push ups, squats (without weights) and planks is all I do to get buffed and I swim for cardio.

Literally all you need to look good and feel healthy.. don't fall for the lifting and gym memes.

Yes, but not by doing strict pushups. You need to start progressing to decline pushups on parallettes, then to archer and finally to various 1 arm pushups. If you just do traditional pushups you'll never get jacked since it's not enough stimulus
