the shit skyscrapers from the 60s and 70s made with cheap concrete will have to be demolished over the next 30 years
many are already coming down now, they are not functional as buildings and require tens of millions in repair work because of the shitty design
since the 2000s, skyscraper design has improved substantially, and they will last a lot longer than previously
I look forward to a world with no buildings from the 60s or 70s, what an awful period of history

100% this, the concrete core in the wtc was built out of shitty materials and it was only a matter of time before it failed. The Mafia at the time was known for cheating out on building materials and they mixed too.much water with the cement.

Are the 60's 70's ones really worse than any others?

        Anonymous

        yes, absolutely
anything that was built with exposed concrete is even worse and needs to go within the next 10-15 years before they start killing people
the building standards around reinforced concrete back in the 60s and 70s were very relaxed, which meant that builders would cut corners, use worse quality concrete, fail to waterproof the whole thing, and took few precautions if any to protect the surface from the weather
this piece of shit was completed in 1967, and had to undergo extensive renovation work due to leakages in the 90s
it was less than 30 years for the design to fail, meanwhile properly built churches have no trouble lasting over a thousand years
Temple Church in City of London has the original structure from the 12th century intact

Same, something feels ungodly about many and you have to wonder if some are poorly made versus godly made, especially today's ones (disagree with

the worse constructions tend to be the smaller ones due to less stringent regulations
here in Australia it's a huge problem that midrise apartment buildings are made like complete shit because the builders are all moronic
the newer skyscrapers, with few exceptions, have not had the same problems as midrise apartments

After the Surfside collapse is when I really started to have this fear. "Buildings can just collapse?" I get that the waterside condition accelerate the rot but I really hadn't thought about it. Then when you apply it to some of these aging highrises and skycomplexes it seems like only a matter of time before they start collapsing.

be especially careful in locations with high tectonic activity or with unstable ground
Florida is a fricking nightmare for construction and one particularly bad storm is going to annihilate the older buildings
do not live in any building from the 60s or 70s if you can help it

the Windsor Tower in Madrid completed in 1979, but was destroyed in a fire in 2005
it was made without fire sprinklers because the construction company were fricking idiots that cut corners
there are wooden homes that survive fires better than this building did

They should just CNC mill out an entire skyscraper out of a solid piece of stainless steel and it will last forever.
Why hasn't someone done this already?
