Why would a literal novice need periodisation?

OK moron but how do you periodize a singular workout?

"how do you periodize a single workout?"
Don't start people on their first day of doing any new form of exercise, or exercise in general by making them do the workout that people who have spent weeks, months, years, decades training are doing. Especially in a high intensity workout program such as cross fit.
Believe it or not, preparation is a cycle.

periodization is very beneficial even for complete beginners. for steady gains, you don't need to go anywhere close to failure, you just need to progressively overload muscle, that's why HST is much superior to SS. I switched from SS to HST when I was starting out. I retested by bench 5RM after 8 weeks and it went to 90kg after stalling at 65kg before, despite my working weight being in the 30-80kg rage during that time

        It’s not just the pull-ups
Their workouts can work for people training for athletic competition but they stupid shit like Clean and Jerk or Snatch until failure. The Olympic lifts are not meant to be done crazy fast and until you physically cannot hold the bar anymore since it’s going to be over your fricking head at that point. If they were just supersetting a bunch of body weight and basic lifts that would be fine, but the fact that they basically ask for injury is moronic. That and the people very serious about CrossFit develop a Cyclist like personality and mentality.

          >snatch to failure
Been doing CrossFit for years and I have never seen a workout that contains "snatch to failure". In fact, in CrossFit it is EXPECTED that you scale your workout as needed. That means 1 of 2 things: scaling the weight/reps or scaling the movement if needed.
In CrossFit the workouts have "RX" suggestions for men and women, meaning to do the "full" workout, you use a defined weight, and if you need to scale you do less.

The mythology about crossfit on IST is hilarious.

        Anonymous

No, their problem is that they force people to do complex movements too fast, and also that they don't give people appropriate breaks between exercises, which leads to very high rates is rhabdomyolysis and injury.

Most of the replies are totally moronic or DYEL cope. This happens almost, if not exclusively to roided lifters in wraps. Roids inadvertently cause these wrecks because tendons and ligaments don’t get as strong as muscles do when they’re juiced up. Secondly, wraps are a super-maximal training aid, so when they fail, and sometimes even when they don’t, your body is left to support a weight it can’t actually lift.
Avoid this outcome by avoiding super-maximal training aids, and not roiding. Heavy lifting doesn’t inherently cause snaps.

Olympic red bumpers are 25kg/55lbs, in my gym in bongland at least. Greens are 10kg/22lbs. Dunno if Crossfit has its own branded plates with a different colour scheme, and vid is too blurry to tell how many reds he's got on, but here would be the rough calcs if those are the same reds I use:
        2 reds: 10/25/25/+(20)+25/25/10 = 140kg/308lbs
        3 reds: 10/25/25/25+(20)+25/25/25/10 = 190kg/419lbs
        4 reds: 10/25/25/25/25+(20)+25/25/25/25/10 = 240kg/529lbs

    Is rhabdo really that bad?
I got it once when I stopped lifting for like half a year and just swam. Did one too many pullups and had my arms swollen, peed dark brown for like 2 days and just felt tired. Drank a lot of water and the swelling went away slowly in like a week.
Got checked out a year later, all my bloodwork/urine came back just fine and I've never felt any better.

      Anonymous

There are levels. Basically what's bad about it isn't the muscle destruction (although that is bad), it's the fact that your muscle tissue is pretty toxic through your body, so your kidneys have to filter out all of that. If you damage one body part a bit, your kidneys will likely recovered (like what happened to you).

If you get rhabdo in multiple areas of your body and it's very severe, your kidneys can shut down if you don't get dialysis. If your kidneys get shot it becomes an issue where you'll need dialysis weekly until you get a transplant.

Yes. Your rhabdo was likely less severe. Also, a lot of these cases you see aren't that severe either. A lot of times hospitals will hold them overnight to watch kidney levels and see whether they have to intervene or not. It doesn't mean they are necessarily getting treatment

I can remember a few times after starting up doing squats again after a long break where my urine was dark brown the next day and I had really bad DOMS that lasted for like 4 days. No long term negative effects but that's it really. I just don't squat anymore because I'm a rungay anyway.

She could be doing some spastic circuit where she does something like box jumps, burpees, deadlifts, assault bike.

Every now and again I have to do army reserve PT and the physical training instructors will set something like that, and they won’t really care if you’re already fatigued from doing real exercise.

I did a circuit like that the day after I did a Smolov squat cycle session (17 reps of 170kg). And I thought I was going to get rhabdo in the circuit. Had to pause laying down as my quads felt like they were going to explode.

I tried CrossFit at work once. They had some program at lunch that the women kept going to.

    >alright time to be serious here
They said you aren’t suppose manage more than 5 reps so pretty much RPE9.

Load bar at 120kg fronts and 190kg DL. Do the shit they ask me to.

    >box jumps 10 reps
    >wall walks 8 reps
    >sand bag throw over shoulder with 40kg 6reps
    >some weird shit called Devils push or whatever

You’re suppose to do this shit as fast as you can and you have to start over if you can’t manage it under 4min.

Do the shit they ask, completely dead after the heavy squats and DL.
At 14min mark I do the devils whatever with garbage form because I can barely breath. Injure my left knee.

Now I can barely stand up from a chair anymore. It’s been 4 months and I can’t squat or stand up properly.

This alone is why CrossFit has such a high injury rate. If they just stop the "do complex movements as fast as you can" bullshit their injury rate would drop to normal weightlifting levels.

I have horrible lower back problems and I rehabbed it by doing goblet squats, Bulgarian split squats and stretching. Now I’m front squatting with 95lbs for 8-10

Yeah, I've found that stretching helps as well.

Wish I stretched sooner. I'm pretty sure me working out for 10 years, never stretching after workouts, and being a complete couch potato with a outside of the gym with a sitting office job is one of the reasons it happened.

So to all the young boys on here, stretch. It's important.

That's it. Just be a NEET. I'm 35 and I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was 12. If you live in Britain that means you get free money forever. I'm not a shrimp like this guy though. I used the free money to get exercise equipment so I can kill people when the economy collapses because of NEETs like me.

I've learned that there's no age regulation for workers in Canada. Mining companies just don't want and are not forced to hire children (unlike women). What a fricking dumbass. As a matter of fact since people received $2000 per month by Justin Turdeau, people don't want to work so grocery stores now hire 14 years old, they always could have, they just didn't want to but because of the socialist government now they have to. Again, what a fricking redditor.
