Walking/running is good for the mind but not that great for the body. The reason is that people are pretty good at walking/running so you have to do so much volume that it has only marginal benifits and if you over do it (which is easy to do) its a net negative. This is why runners look like sickly gays. The added stress on your knees and back will offset any possible benifits.

you don't build strength by doing hours of weighted walking. if you wanna be strong, do farmer's walks. less risk of injury

Rucking is good as long as your a man. Men were designed to carry more weight than just their own, figuratively and literally.

Wow this old photo sure shows how strong this random persons joints are. People in the army are rife with injuries mostly due to rucking. It's why paratroopers only have a set amount of jumps in their entire careers because their legs end up fricked.

Because they dont walk enough to develop them. If all these fatasses tried walking regularly with their overweight, theyd all develop joint problems quick.

i didn't say it only works out calves, i'm saying in VISUAL terms (because that's what we're talking about) the noticeable difference with a random gym bro will be calves and that's just true.

why do powerlifters and strongmen lift weights? why don't they just work on a farm or in a factory if that is more effective for strength? why aren't any manual laborers winning powerlifting competition?

why do arm wrestlers do specific arm wrestling exercises? why don't they just work on a farm or in a factory if you're literally saying that is better for arm wrestling ability than arm wrestling training? why aren't any of the elite arm wrestlers manual laborers?

why doesn't military training involve working on a farm or in a factory? why do they go on runs and rucks if manual labor is so superior to everything else?

why do athletes do sport-specific training? why aren't entire NFL rosters composed of manual laborers? last time I checked, they spend more time in the weight room than on the factory floor. why do you think that is?

yep. lots of weird tradie larping happens on this board. i'm sure a lot of it is just baiting but there seems to be a lot of people who think manual labour will build some great physique. these people have clearly never actually worked in the trades or they would know that most tradesmen are either fat, skinny or skinnyfat, depending on whether they prefer alcohol or meth.

I remember when I worked on a framing crew as a summer job. it was really eye-opening how physically intense the job was compared to anything else I had done before. but there was only 1 dude in the entire housing development with a good physique.

Rucking is the absolute best way to burn calories but has negligible benefits for building muscle. If you look at anyone who rucks regularly in the military they're almost always skinny due to the intense caloric requirement .

settle down spergs. it's just weighted walking.

  13. 4 weeks ago

Did it for awhile, it's a nice way to start doing more cardio if you're fat like I was and hate(d) running like I did, noticed some benefits to my trap/back development and some decent cardio gains, but I used an old backpack and always feared the weights I had might one day slip out so get a proper rucking bag for it with the straps/proper weight plates that disperse the weight in a better way, low intensity too so if you like listening to whatever audiobook/podcast/anything that isn't motivational music while you train it's good for that too since you don't have to focus on the training itself 100%, didn't notice any personal joint issues but your results may vary, importantly is going for time/distance is more important than weight, it's why people recommend starting with 10% of your bodyweight and only going as high as 15-20% of it depending on what you can handle

    Foolish, probably underaged post.

If you've ever known anybody at all who did time in the military, you'd know that will unavoidably wreck your knees and back for life because of rucking. You'd need physiotherapy to try to recover after that.

The point of rucking is what it does to the troops mentally anyway. It teaches mental fortitude and discipline and morale and camaraderie.

If you make it a habit, as anything, your body will adapt to having to carry heavy loads and you'll see some strength gain.
Just be smart about it and don't run.

I feel like carrying around a heavy pack growing up (scouting) helped my posterior chain get strong. For instance, I can deadlift 500 and squat 405 but can barely bench 2 plates.

  21. 4 weeks ago
    Anonymous

It does nothing heavy compounds don't do. I used to backpack a lot and would consistently carry the heaviest pack (about 125 pounds) and outwalk the other dudes who did stuff like hockey. In fact there was no difference to me whether I had a pack or not except for the inertia.

rucking is fun but i never go too heavy on the weight because i'm worried about fricking up my back
    >but squats anon
yes but squat sets are short durations of controlled movements. rucking is several hours of weight constantly bouncing up and down on your spine
