I let my friend borrow my bike. He begged and begged. He well off the fricking thing doing 90mph. No gear besides my 1k helmet. Forks bent. He's been in hospital for over a year. Induced coma. Nerves reattached. He's completely fricked up. I feel partly to blame but he begged me. The asphalt tore his muscles from his body.

Are modern bikes in anywhere the realm as homosexual as cars to work on?

      Anonymous

Naked bikes are the easiest mode of transportation to work on short of a bycicle but anything to do with the engine (and you'll have to get in there every 16k miles for maintenance) will require you to disassemble half the bike

        Anonymous

No, they're extremely simple and haven't really gotten much harder to work on than old bikes. If anything they're a lot easier, because you don't have to deal with carbs and vacuum frickery.

        [...]
        Don't do it, they're shit.

what I'm asking is do they require some gay diagnostic tool with a wholesome manufacturer approved subscription

What dual sport would you recommend and what makes them shit?

          Anonymous

Realistically? None of them, because you have to travel far enough by freeway to get to any decent trails that dualsports just aren't very good for most people. But specifically the reason CRF300Ls suck is because they have unreasonably soft suspension that sags to the ground under the weight of a small rider.

I'm 6'1 and 92kg. I already know I have to upgrade the rear shock and I'm prepared to do that. I'm going to be buying brand new. Do you have any advice besides the trail issue. That isn't an issue for me I live in a town of 2k people I'm a hill billy bro.

NTA but it's the front forks too, it's seriously sprung for a small child. KLX300 is a better new dual sport imo. Don't forget the venerable DR650 exists.

                Anonymous

I can't get a KLX or DR new. I'm in australia and the market is small. The KLX didn't pass our safety standards so I would have to do a lot to bring it up to legal road registration. There are basically no DR650s for sale here. I've had a good look.

                Anonymous

We don't really have much choice for dualsports in Australia, because very few people buy them and most of those who do never ride them. People just carry dirt bikes to the trails by ute or trailer, and then ride street bikes around the city.

            Yeah also hugely impractical
I lived my life from age 19 when I got my first bike a Yamaha fz6
To age 27 when I got my first girlfriend and had a Ducati
After the cool factor of being a biker wore off it was apparent that it would be a issue
I couldn’t pick up a lot groceries from the store running errands was harder when
            I lived with her
Had to really on her to pick up some larger errands and she was getting sick of it
We broke up and realized in hindsight that having a car would of made my relationship 10x easier

Practicality is subjective. My bike takes up less space and costs way less than a second car. Also, I ride it to work and park for free when the only other alternative would be to drive my car to the station and catch a train.

You actually had a car and knew how to drive
I never owned a car or even drove one
I have never really cared for cars still till this day even though I know own one
I see cars a merely tools to transport stuff and people

        Anonymous

I never had a girlfriend before and didn’t give a shit
So obviously a broke loser can afford a Ducati as his sole transportation
But it made my relationship difficult
I couldn’t pick her up and drop her off when I needed to
I had to bum rides from my brother
Solving logistical issue was harder since I had to lug the stuff on a backpack
It was a huge problem that contributed to us breaking up

          Anonymous

Okay, that's actually reasonable. I think bikes make a good second vehicle though, if you ever need one.

lmao your fricking cbr is not cool homosexual

I don't own one, I just think that if someone stops riding because bikes are too much hassle then it's worth at least trying a simpler bike. This anon's situation makes sense though. What do you ride?
