Running shoes

Can anyone suggest some running shoes that aren't going to break the bank?

I want to start running to improve my health but know nothing about exercise let alone buying clothing for it.

I live in a city that rains 90% of the time and is both rural and urban. I was thinking of getting these but I don't know if they're suitable. Some suggestions would be great.

I would not buy these if you spend the majority of time on pavement. If you're going to do road/payment running I would get a gait analysis done. Run shops do them for free. You can get a pair like a Brooks Ghost and be generally okay since it's a cushioned neutral daily, but if you need more support/stability there are other options. Plus road shoes can go on trails. If you're only doing trails, still get a gait analysis done and then go to runningwarehouse and check if it's a stability/neutral. You can then look at other trail shoes and see if they're similar. Don't have to buy them off that site but it has good info. So does solereview. Enjoy running

Yeah I know but there was nothing specifically about shoes and in threads like that later posts get buried. Figure I'd get straight to the point.

Thank you that's helpful to know. Is there a reason trail shoes are bad for running on pavement?

I'd like to do both preferably but I will need to run on pavement to get to trails.

      What is a gait analysis?

Are there any other brands you could recommend?

They're kinda narrow. If you have wider feet, you might have problems

      Sweet thanks
I'm really looking for a waterproof shoe as it rains nearly everyday.
Additionally what's with the soles that look like they're composed of Styrofoam?
      Surely this can't be durable.

Idk, haven't used them long term.

Go to a shoestore, get a gait analysis, and they will pick out a bunch of shoes for you to try that fit your feet.

We can't help you. We all have wildly different feet. Seriously, everyones feet are different

      Is it really that important?

I honestly just want to run I didnt think it would be this complicated, time consuming and possibly expensive.

if you really can only afford something that's like $50, then try to find a pair of brooks or hokas on sale at a local shop or some online deal. if you can, save up for a bit and buy a pair of on clouds, they're like ~$160ish from what I remember. i really like them because the city i live has fricking terrible sidewalks and roads and the clouds have this super thick soles that make it feel like you're not running on a shitty uneven surface. definitely worth it and the shoes are durable too.

Yeah I couldn't justify spending 160 on anything when I know they'll get destroyed in 6 months.

Brooks are pretty expensive over here but thank you for the suggestion.

I'm leaning towards getting a pair of Asia's or saucony as they seem to make affordable road running shoes that are also waterproof. This or get some trail shoes and just stick to running in the park maybe, for some reason they don't really do waterproof running shoes that aren't trail shoes.

I would like to do a gait analysis but from what I can tell all the running shops here start they're prices in the hundreds and I would feel bad not buying anything from them.

see if you live near a podiatric medical school, there are always students doing that shit for free for their research projects

Adding to this, it's free in most stores too. Frick, even Brooks has a sore finder on their website that requires some basic tests. It'll recommend a couple of their shoes and then just cross reference with other brands. If OP would have put in as much time researching as waiting they'd have their shoes by now.

I use these for everything. The only thing they're bad for is running on wet concrete. Other than that, I never take them off.

This but Vapor Gloves. Also running on slick wet concrete is great for keeping good form. Tread lightly and do not push off and you'll have no issues with slipping.

Pegasus 38 or 39. They aren't even expensive, but in general, don't be cheap on running shoes.

Understably. I am out of shape though and would just like to get back into exercising without blowing several days wage.

These seem good thank you but waterproofing is a necessity really.

There’a a weatherproof version of the Pegasus 39.

I’ve currently got the Pegasus 38s and am eyeing up the NB 1080v12s - anyone here have any experience with them?

Make sure you have a good form for running otherwise it’s easy to mess your legs up unnecessarily

Black folk never warned me about zero drops. Seriously they need to be sold with a warning that this shit takes acclimation, I had to power through the adjustment period and my calves and tendons still hurt sometimes. Fleet feet prostitute just casually recommends Altras

IME low drops okay for trail and parkland. Anything involving asphalt or concrete requires cushioning and a bit of a heel lift.

I run 6 miles everyday and
when it comes to running you want a shoe that you can put your "easy" miles on as well as a fast training shoe. the best one that does both for me is the sauconey Endorphin speed 2. which is on sale right now for like 80USD

I use some old Asics Gel-Venture, cost me like $40. I don't do long runs though but they're very comfy for 5Ks. Also check out Decathlon, they usually have some pretty cheap running gear.

I also live somewhere rainy and honestly, being waterproof isnt a factor when considering shoes for me. If anything, wear decent socks and let your shoes dry out between runs. Stuffing newspaper in them will help dry them, too

Find a model you like, then go online and find last year/2 years ago's version of it on clearance. Brooks, Asics, New Balance, Saucony, Mizuno are all good. Asics Gel Contend is probably the best bang for buck I've seen, but you can usually find a couple year old flagship for about as much.
