I do agree that his knees are in better shape than the ones of the average joe, but there's a limit on how much your knees benefit from continuous stress throughout your life.

Could 100 IST posters beat him in a relay? 26.2 miles divided by 100 is a little more than 400m per poster, and 4:40 is 70 seconds per 400m. I don’t think there’s 100 guys here who can run a 70 second 400m.

If you had 100 anons who ran track in College maybe, but Kipchoge is a fricking animal.

He came through the first 5k in 14:14. A marathon is a little more than 8 5ks long. There are plenty of division 1 teams that don’t have 8 guys who can average 14:14 for 5k. The guy is on a different level.

      >70 seconds per 400m
Holy frick, imagine doing this for 40km, insanity. Easily the most impressive athletic feat of all time.
I can run sub 70s 400m split but barely.

      > 70 seconds per 400m
Do the IST posters get to train for it?
A 70 second 400m is really far removed from elite, quite easy to get there.

        Anonymous

Definitely not elite, but also definitely not something most posters here could achieve in a short period of time.

I wonder how many cardiochads we have on the board. 70 seconds is really easy, I ran a 60 second 400m without trying in freshman year of high school.

The story behind this one is really funny. They don't hunt like this at all and were really confused as to why the director of the documentary wanted them to recreate this scene, of course it was all faked.
There are currently no living tribes that still practice persistence hunting and we've never had contact with any tribe that had done so in the past.

People are racist and desperately want to believe that Africans are still hunting animals like this. Any other depiction of Africans makes people seethe.

I can see why you'd think that but white people fricking worship the idea that humans are persistence hunters. The white people who read that one book about persistence hunting would literally cum in their pants if they saw it happen in real life.

I respect pro marathoners/ultramarathoners more than any athlete.

I genuinely cannot even comprehend what's going on inside their brains to not only complete marathons, but do it at paces faster than most athletes would struggle to run a mile

Yeah, but most people have no idea how fast he is running. Most people cannot actually comprehend how fast that is - your commercial gym treadmills don't even go as fast as he is running... for 2 hours.

Everyone on IST should go to a track today and try to run this pace for a single lap. This is fricking unreal. Like the world DL record could be pulled by two guys working together who aren’t even elite. There’s maybe 20 guys on the planet who can do a half marathon at the pace this guy did for a while one.

Fricking hell they wont even come close. People actually think PEDs are the equivalent of strapping a fricking inline 4 and a set of wheels to your butthole.

He's likely highly dehydrated. For most runners it's a good idea to stay hydrated but if you're going for a WR you need to min/max the benefits of hydration vs the weight saving of having less water in your body.
