Salt/Sodium Intake

How safe is it to eat a high sodium diet? Are all the health articles I read just a meme? Im an ex-fatty in the making. Ive cut all fast food and only drink diet soda or water. I exercise daily now. Ive also got almost no time to cook or meal prep so I was thinking of turning to fresh cut deli meats and bakery bread to get a filling protein rich meal every day. Is eating fresh cut deli meat going to make me the walking HBP and cancer magnet that all these articles are suggesting it will?

If you have a healthy heart you can eat as much as you like.

It's probably not a good idea but nobody knows for sure, there's only weak associative evidence like most health advice.

The short answer is yes it's a meme. Low salt is more harmful than high salt. Salt is infact a vital nutrient and without it we die. However, try to get natural salt that isn't highly refined and stripped of tracw minerals like sea salt (although there might be micro plastic in), Himalayan salt or the best is ancient sea salt that isn't contaminated.

What about specifically what I was thinking of doing? Fresh cut deli meats that have a high sodium through nitrates and nitrites to preserve the meat? I mean, it's better than fricking fast food every day right?

No, fast food is actually healthier since you're eating nitrate laced junk food

Wait so youre saying that eating a combo meal from Wendys is better for me than eating a sandwich with deli meats, cheese, lettuce, pickles, a condiment, on bakery bread?

            They're both terrible. Do what

            >ex-fatty in the making
            >turning to bread and deli meat sandwiches

Listen bro. Don't fricking lie. You got time to shitpost on IST, you got time to fricking sizzle sear four strips of steak on the stove.
Just don't fricking lie. You got some psychological hang-up about learning to cook or even trying and you think it's going to be a time-intensive task when it's not.
How about you try and see really ''how hard and taxing'' it is. You might find it's actually way easier and quicker than you think. Provided you know what to look for.
Listen just because you saw your mom breaking her back for 4 hours making a stew once to entertain guests doesn't mean all cooking has to be like that.
Black person go to Kmart right now get some tupperwares. Buy a carton of eggs, some sizzle/strip/minute steaks (roughly 100g a strip), some bacon and fricking cook that shit.
You'll be done in 20 mins. And stop fricking eating white bread and consuming bread on a daily basis. Especially large quantities of it.
You're not building good habits here.
Just fricking try cooking at least before you fricking knock it. I don't even mind if you get ''prepared meals'' from the store/shop but since you said you need protein, I figure you can at least fricking sear some fricking steaks for 5 minutes no?

First of all, this is the most disproven stuff:

There is no evidence sea salt or Himalayan salt is better at all. In fact, it would be a good idea to buy iodized salt as the deficiency comes back because people switch to those "natural salts"...

Secondly, salt is not problemetic if you're healthy. The association between HBP and cancer is there because standard obese American diet eaters have higher sodium levels due to fast foods. The association is just stupid.

Thirdly, I eat enormouse amountof salt in the form of Harzer Cheese (almost all protein) and smoked fish or deli meats. Now, deli meats are not the best, maybe. But they will help you lose weight.

Caveat: you will gain weight because of high salt intake in the form of water... You might look even a bit puffier... But fast few days or cut out salt to admire progress and take new Tinder pics, then binge salt again

salt makes your body retain water, if you eat too much you'll look puffy and get eyebags

Saying I had no time was easier than explaining my situation indepth, at the end of the day I dont have the means to cook. I am living in a room with my own minifridge and an electric kettle. The house Im living in is shared by a methhead who has destroyed the fricking kitchen. Ive been living off of tuna creation pouches and cup ramen. So yes, while I CAN cook and Im actually pretty great at it, I currently dont have the means of doing so. Thus, the deli meat sandwich strat of eating a meal that tastes good, is filling, and gives me protein and fiber.

30$ at kmart : mini 3L convection oven
20$ at kmart : mini one pot electric stove top

I mean Black person the options are there to keep cooking but admit it you're demoralized and tired and you don't want to keep trying, you want to take the easy way out of this.
Here's the easy way out homosexual. Move out of the crackhouse. I don't fricking care if you sleep in your car, and have a P.O box to get your checks, and hit up the public park's free electric BBQ areas to cook dinner every night or the beach public showers to maintain yourself.
If the environment you live in right now has you even afraid to cook...Bro get the frick out.
Like why are you even worrying about deli meat sandwiches right now? You got tunnel vision Black, you're filtered by the small things in life? Fix the big problem moron.

I get what you're saying and I'm working on doing that. Ive recently started working again and am doing the best I can. I have researched and thought about doing the living in my car thing, just showering at the gym, etc. But I got a cat and Im not willing to give him up. Ive lost everything in my life and hes the only thing that has kept me going so if trying to find a way of making shit work makes me a Black person than so be it.

I use the word Black person affectionately. I care about you moron, I'm trying to make you focus on the bigger problems so you can get yourself out of this. Anyways it looks like you're working your way towards that. Just save that money dude and make better living decisions next time. Don't depend on no one else but you. I believe you can make it.
And for christ sake if you're poor go eat at the damn soup kitchen moron. These are here for a reason. Save your fricking money. You might think there's poorer than you when there really isn't. You're the guy these are made for. Go fricking eat some good food.

Thats not what Im saying at all and you know it. Im asking if thr correlation between eating high sodium diets and HBP/cancer actually are what "health articles" from the randy sites google brings up report them to be or are they simply regurgitating the same information that all the others are regurgitating? Also saying what is healthy for your average american and what is healthy for someone who would be drinking a lot of water and exercising daily are two different things, no?

Salt is healthy, don't worry about it at all.
It's only because a lot of shitty processed foods are high in salt that moronic researchers made the connection with high salt and poor health.

I get that eating fresh cut deli meat (I say fresh cut to differentiate between the prepackaged containers you can get which I believe is worse in every way) isnt as healthy as eating a steak or some eggs, but I was just thinking it would be a good stepping stone towards eating better. Im just so sick of tuna pouches and cup ramen.
