Sardines

Why does nobody ever mention how awesome sardines (or herring) are as a source of cheap, lean protein with a bunch of other good shit included?
Per sardine:
>3g protein
>1.25g fat
>25cal
>0g carbs
>0g fiber
>0g sugar
>Shit ton of vitamins and omega 3s giving them the nickname “superfish”
>good for your heart, bones, and nerves too
>canned sardines are also cheap as frick, common, doesn’t need to be prepared before eating, and can be stored indefinitely
Sardines are seriously slept on. Take the sardine pill anons.

Tried them a few weeks ago, and they're gross. I got the ones in olive oil, and my friend said that was a mistake, and to try the ones packed in hot mustard. The ones in olive oil were slimy and gross.

Yea I definitely don’t eat them plain. In mustard or hot sauce is the shit

I tried putting them on crackers, and it didn't help. My dog got most of the can, but she enjoyed them.

I like the ones packed in water. I add my own hot sauce. Never tried the ones packed in oil though

I'll give them another shot at some point, but the olive oil ones were not enjoyable.

I don't want to poison myself with mercury

Sardines don't have high mercury levels. They're not large fish like tuna, so they don't live long enough to gather high levels of heavy metals.

If you don't like deenz, try mackerel, I buy them in brine. Beautiful fillets, not as expensive or dangerous for regular use like tuna

I don't want to poison myself with mercury

The lower the fish is on the food chain, the less polluted it is, tuna/salmon/swordfish are by far the biggest offenders.

You have to eat an insane amount of sardines to get even a noticable amount of mercury into your system. Nothingburger, maybe if you ate like ten cans for a year it could be a problem, no one is doing that.

They have extremely low mercury levels in comparison with other commonly eaten fish. You need to eat a shit ton of tuna (far more than the average amount eaten) to even risk getting mercury poisoning and tuna has far higher mercury levels.
TLDR: the risk of mercury poisoning from sardines is practically non existent

Try eating fricking sardines every day for 3 months. It got to the point where just the smell makes me want to vomit.

Interestingly, I would eat tuna every day if I could but I’m scared of mercury

Lurk more newbie, sardines are see as a godking food here. Most fitizens love them and include them in their diet. I bring a can with me every day I work for a snack cause they are delicious and normies hate the smell. For any other people new to deenz King Oscar Mediterranean and seasons Louisiana hot sauce are good starting flavors for anyone interested in trying them. Also post your stacks

      >King Oscar Mediterranean (olive oil, smoked, provence herbs, olives)
EUbros, any suggestions on your go-to sardines I can order in this vein?

I hear people talk about them constantly, but I think that's just my own little echo chamber. Try to get the not-least-expensive variety if you're squeamish, never had a strange can of King Oscar. I get the olive oil ones and enjoy it, though it's totally better if you can find ones in mustard or paprika sauce, better to make your own.
