My workouts are 12-15 sets max and take about 1h20. People who do much more volume than that are simply not lifting heavy enough, probably take short rests and lose 2-3 reps with each subsequent set of an exercise. An example workout of mine looks like:
>weighted pullups 4x8
>barbell/dumbbell rows 3×8-10
>lat pulldowns 3x8-10
>curls 3x10 with a drop set to failure on the final set
After all that I'm pretty fried. I try to rest enough so that I don't lose any reps on my next set, usually about 5 mins. Could you rest less? Sure but you'll lose reps, and that's not conducive to hypertrophy/strength gains IMO
>that's not conducive to hypertrophy/strength gains IMO
those extra reps don't stimulate anything, you're just taking longer to build up to a proximity to failure that will stimulate muscle growth. And having to rest for 5 minutes between sets is overkill, you have shit work capacity.
we get it you're a pussy limp dick bro who uses only machines
Each one of my workouts is in the 15-20 sets range and I have never gone above an hour. 2-3 minute breaks after a compound lift, 1-2 after most lifts, 1 minute after isolation exercises. Each workout includes probably 7-8 warmup sets but I don't usually rest as long between them.
What am I missing?
HOW do those 12 sets take so long? I do 24 set workouts and I'm done in 1h
he explained it, you aren't actually lifting
Or maybe he takes 6 minute breaks between sets? I do 30-90 sec rests depending on the exercise and take every set to failure. Why lift for more than 1h? Sounds like a big waste of time.
I am the same. Any more than 12-15 working sets on compounds in the same session bleeds performance. With isolation you can cut rest times and superset antagonistically, but that is about it.
>sad chest syndrome
It's over
It's not about sets, fag. It's all about reps. I do a full body routine with only 8 sets, but 20-25 reps each.
Per muscle group it is overkill unless you are a roichud
every single natural bodybuilder has built his physique on brosplits smashing a muscle group with tons of sets once a week
