screw the home gym

Sweet begeezus I cannot believe why I was ever in the home gym master race. After 3+ years of casually lifting in my home gym I had to get a gym membership for rehab and it's literally changed everything.

I thought it'd be awkward being surrounded by people but it just forces met to not waste time.

I fricking love the calf machine. Heck, a lot of the "weird" machines have actually been godsends for my gains.

I never realised how awful my home cable machine was until I actually used a proper one and I could never go back.

Feels good man

    Same here. 2015-2021 home gym

2022 joined local gym and after experiencing the difference in having access to tons of different shit I sold all my home gym shit

Actually sold the home gym for 3X what I paid for it as well.

The membership is only like $20 month, bought my home gym for $1500 in 2015 and sold it in 2021 for $4500

Oh and another thing, I goto the gym at 5am and there’s nobody there, so it’s basically like a home gym anyway.

$20 a week? Geez I envy you. My gym is $15 a *week*

I swear gyms are much more expensive here in Australia. I always assumed it was like a Netflix subscription but all the gyms where I live charge pretty big weekly fees.

I have a home gym but I also travel a lot so use public gyms to. I love using a public gym but sometimes when you're stood waiting for equipment, I wish I was back in my home gym. Both hands their pros and cons. If you can find a decent local affordable gym that isn't over crowded, there is no need for a home gym.

I agree, but the 'Rona showcased an important advantage that home gyms have over public ones: they are immune to lockdowns.

Anywhere with traffic can easily be 20 minutes. If you are rural then it’s a 20 minute drive anywhere.
          >move somewhere that's not a shithole and you can walk to one in like 10 minutes.
          >walking

Where do you live? Also all of the places that are nice to live, don’t have winter, and have a good gym within walking distance are also busy and usually more expensive. Why would I pay more to be around people I don’t know or care for and wait to use equipment? I can save time and money and workout better at home.

Volume at home and PRs at the gym should be the way to do this.
Volume at home since you can take all the time you want on any equipment.
PRs at gym because you don't risk damaging your fricking home when you fail. Also for gym mires

      Anonymous

Dumbest thing I've heard. PR's at home since you want chalk, loud music, smelling salts and screaming. Damaging your equipment? 3x3 11g steel isn't going to get damaged. Maybe scuffed. Who cares if you have to dump a 405+ lb bench press at home? I wouldn't want to do that at a commercial gym

        Anonymous

Why would you want to damage your home + your equipment?
Its okay to say you are insecure with yourself and why you want to do all this shit at home but don't act like denting your floor cause you had to bail on a squat is better over dropping the weights at the gym where the floors were actually made to withstand such a drop.

Denting my floor. I've got 6" thick concrete covered in 3/4" horse stall mats. Do you even realize that not everyone lives in some shitty apartment like you. Also barbells are meant to be dropped and take abuse. My Rogue OPB has a tensile strength of over 205,000 PSI. Racks are meant to get used and scraped up. • 2 years ago

dropping the weights onto my floor. I live in an apartment so I have barbell, squat stand, and weights. So if I were to do a deadlift PR and I need to drop the weight or the barbell slips out of my hand, the floor will no doubt get damaged.
If I fail a squat, I have to drop the weight so squat stands don't have safeties.

Is this some moronic poorgay cope?
I can use padded safeties and platforms to keep my shit from getting fricked up when I have to drop the bar in my homegym because I built it that way.
I don't have to listen to Black person zoomshit homosexual music. I can blast Bolt Thrower and Slayer with all the fricking volume I want because I soundproofed my basement.
I don't have to be afraid of some homosexual giving me a fungus, monkeypox or some other shit because he jizzed on the bench.
I can workout whenever I fricking want. Be it early in the morning, after coming home from work, before going to sleep or at 3 fricking AM because I don't give a shit.
I don't have to deal with homosexual ass gym etiquette or deal with annoying shitheads who think they can lecture me about form and shit when I bench their squat max for reps.

Yes. The only other explanation is someone who doesn’t have any discipline to workout at home and needs peer pressure or a trainer to do anything.

Unironically israelites who want everyone to pay subscriptions for everything that can be canceled at a moment's notice.. No one should care what methods people are using to exercise as long as they aren't obnoxious morons about it.

Oh yeah, home gyms are for busy parents with extra space at home. Otherwise you're just some kind of antisocial shut in. NO EXCEPTIONS, unless you live in bumfrick nowhere. Hell, my gym has a childcare area so I just bring mine with me.

I had a gym membership for 10 years.
    1. Anytime I want to go 11AM, 6AM, 6PM, 8fricking PM - The squat racks are full, only days you can get on the bench are tues/thurs
    2. Have to deal with annoying fricking gym franchise bullshit, The gym I was at in GA was based as frick. fat old boxer at the counter, never bothered you during your workout. Everywhere else? Hey, you know we do personal training. Did you want to sign up for some tanning bed time? Frick off.
    3. Fricking zoomer women squatting 60lbs on the rack for an hour taking 10 minute breaks between sets.

Nah dude, I've got pulley's, dumbbells, and an adjustable rack with olympic plates/rubber plates, and a heavy bag. There's nothing I want in a gym.
