Self Defence

What is the best martial art to learn self defence? I’m living in a city where random violence seems to be an upward trend, from junkies and mentally ill immigrants especially. Lots of random fatal stabbings. I need to learn how to protect myself as best as possible.

    > I’m living in a city
Best self-defense is not living in a city. If you actually defend yourself you will be the one arrested and charged and someone will film it and your life will be ruined as you're called the face of white supremacy for punching an urban American.

I dont live in the US fortunately, but same principle applies here anyway if the attacker is a POC anyway. I’d move out of the city if it was an option.

Wrestling and learn some striking. If someone has a knife, just run. Get pepper spray if you really feel scared about getting stabbed. The reality is that even in a place with high crime rates, you most likely wont come into a situation where you have to fight, just show some situational awareness

Unfortunately, self defence tools are banned here. I want to learn how to disable an attacker quickly and effectively, and leave unseen and fast.

Based judo Chad. Most practical martial art.

Use someone's clothing to shitslam them into the pavement once then leave.

If you want to leave unseen and fast then it doesnt matter that self defence tools are banned. Martial arts isnt about eliminating someone quickly and effectively, its about being able to fight. Youre not gonna become Solid Snake because you take martial arts classes

Punching is a great way to accidentally kill someone defending yourself because they fall down and hit their head and you end up in prison.

Boxing is absolutely horrible and the people who do it are the lowest tier in the combat knowledge tier list. Unless you are getting a private coach who is actually worth a goat, you'll be stuck doing cardio circuits and spinning your wheels with point-scoring combos.

Do not do boxing for self-defense EVER.

          Judo.

Learn how to throw a proper hook and elbow and you'll be fine for strikes.

    Judo of Jiu Jitsu

This is my general philosophy that I follow and I think if you do this 99% of the time you will be fine.

    1. Be alert - That means stop looking at your phone, stop using headphones, look at your surroundings, listen to your surroundings, note exits and hazards/threats.

    2. Avoid the situation - If you feel something is not right then back out. If the street seems off, or there's people that seem off then back out. Cross the street, or turn around.
Do not verbally engage. Leave the train or bus or whatever. Do not back talk or shit talk people. Swallow your pride like your fathers cum you raging homosexual.

    3. If conflict arises. Remove yourself from the situation. Yes that's right! Just fricking leave. It's that simple. Back out quickly. Run away. Verbally de-escalate. Do not attempt to reason with them in any way. Act like a moron and run away like an autist it will leave them confused.

    4. Self defense. If they coming then protect yourself while removing yourself. This is self explanatory. Don't get hit and gtfo.

    5. Fight. Last resort. If you've gotten to this stage then you fricked up. Enjoy getting stabbed/shot/ganged on by 5 people and stomped on the head. Hope you can fight at a disadvantage.

Learn some discipline. Every moron who ends up doing martial arts for self defence will probably get the shit kicked out of them because they think they can use it, like when people pull a knife and get stabbed by their own weapon.

There is no single best. If you want to defend yourself pick a striking and grappling school. For striking boxing Muay Thai, or kick boxing. For grappling bjj wrestling or judo. Beyond that pick up some cardio and weight lifting, being more fit and stronger will help in every situation for self defense. Anyone who disagrees with me is a homosexual who would get laid out in an actual self defense situation.

OP here, already do lift and cardio for about 6 months. Starting to look great, but as I said I want to be able to disable someone quickly and efficiently.

    >self defense martial arts

Complete meme. Just say you want to frick someone up. You don't practice martial arts for self defense, for that you do sprints and carry a weapon. You do martial arts so you can frick someone up recklessly regardless of consequences.

And for that you should be doing the objective best martial art tested in all MMA competition, wrestling.

I dont want to fight for sport in some gay ring. If I’m being attacked, I give no fricks about fairness. You’re exactly right, I just want to learn how to frick someone very quickly. Wrestling or boxing isnt going to help against a methed out junkie. I want to know the most vulnerable spots on a body and how to strike them to incapacitate them.

      >for that you do sprints and carry a weapon.
aside from guns most weapons are over rated. I've been in fights with people with hammers and bats and it's a nothing burger. Knives are extremely dangerous but experienced people who know what they are doing can work around them. Guns in extremely close range are 50/50 but someone is gonna die. And if you kill someone in self defense your still getting around 5 years prison time. my advice is to carry bear spray for people who don't wanna learn mma.

        >Knives are extremely dangerous but experienced people who know what they are doing can work around them
This is some epic internet toughguy horseshit.

The fricking Navy SEALS combat training tells the SEALS that if you're fighting someone with a knife you're just going to get slashed and stabbed and the best you can do is try to make sure those are to the outsides of your forearms as you draw your sidearm or your own knife. Whatever super elite weapon takedown disarmament Batman shit oyu think elite forces re taught, they aren't.

No you're not. Why do people think killing someone in self-defense is illegal? It's the literal law that you are legally allowed to defend yourself if you are with out a doubt going to die.

Get a gun and put a silencer on it. If someone attacks you, you shoot to kill. Immediately leave the area, don't get involved with the cops. They aren't your friend, they want to put you away. They've been programmed to hate and go after people actually obeying the law

when you recommend 3+ martial arts at once, how do you expect people to train it? i've heard people say shit like "if you combined muay thai, boxing, wrestling, and bjj you'd be unstoppable" or some shit like this, but this seems almost impossible for any person who works

how would you structure a week of training across these? or are you just saying "pick a grappling art and a striking art"?

    1. Running. Safest way to avoid injury, liability and people coming after you for revenge after a fight.
    2. Firearm concealed carry. A dead person can’t testify against you. Best for multiple assailants. Good for protecting friends and family who can’t run when out and about.
    3. Any combat sport that has competitions so you can benchmark how good you actually are at fighting. Learn how to adapt the sport aspect for self defense.

That’s my ranking. I personally train jiu jitsu because I liked it more than boxing and judo, but I still think judo is the best combat sport on the street because you can throw a motherfricker on hard pavement while remaining in a standing position which lets you either run away or throw the next assailant. The only con is that you would have to train it for years in order to understand the intricacies of how to hand someone without a gi and the best throw for the given scenario.

    Gun shooting idk.
Or muay thai, just for the striking and clinch/elbows. People who think BJJ is useful in self defense situations are moronic. Try to grab someones hand for a BJJ pussy takedown and get pulled into a clinch then cop an elbow across your face. Or crouch down for a pussy BJJ takedown and get switch knee'd to the face.

Do not listen to anyone itt. For random stabbings, you need boxing so you can move and punch. Greco so you can slam off balanced opponents. And specific knife drills so you can protect yourself from sewing machine style attacks.
    >box to instinctively keep distance so you have a chance to see the knife
    >run if knife or if not an option knife drills
