Why do people who look like this always ask this question? I don't get how you can be skinnyfat and think bulking helps. What do these people think bulking means? Should there be a better term or phrase so they stop getting confused?

    Skinnyfat here. It's pretty hard
Have TDEE of 1800 at sedentary and cutting, but progressing on lifts is pretty brutal.
Still gaining some muscle due to noob gains but still.

      Anonymous

      >1800cal TDEE
Unless you're 5'0 you need to eat more. Ideally while also upping your activity levels to minimize fat gain. Add some LISS cardio and 1 or 2 conditioning sessions to your weekly programming and stop obsessing over calories for a while (you can still track them just don't let your tracker dictate your diet). Eat real food, get enough protein, and be consistent in your workouts

      >skinnyfat
      >eating at maintenance
      >my physique didn’t change

bro yeah that was the problem. Fat covers muscle, fat doesn’t go away if you keep don’t eat less

      >Fat covers muscle, fat doesn’t go away if you keep don’t eat less
As you gain muscle your tdee goes up so the same amount of calories becomes a deficit

        >Unless you're 5'0 you need to eat more
I'm 5'6 59kg. That's just the life of a manlet, anon. The good thing is that breakfast and 1 meal is enough for me to hit my daily goal which is 1300 calories. I'm also doing 30min of cardio almost everyday, unless it's leg day so 4-5 times a week.
My muscles are growing slowly and I lost a ton of face fat to the point where my parents commented on it. Started at 65kg a month ago. I don't think I can eat more, I tried eating at maintenance and was gaining weight too fast so I went back to cutting.
I don't see the point of bulking when ur 20% bodyfat, I don't wanna become those skinnyfat anons who do 1 year of bulk and never lose their disgusting belly.

Yeah you should just say......go lift bro. Just lift, that's it. You want muscles? Lift. Need a ride? Lyft. Flying an airplane? Lift. Oil change? Lift. Need a hug from your firstborn son? Lift.

Everything in life is about lifting.

Because everyone who doesn't lift is either:
    >fat
    >skinnyfat
    >skeleton
And you do not, nor should you ever, cut into skeleton mode before trying to get muscle. What skinnyfats should do is not obsess about the calories itself but instead make sure they're getting the protein and carbs to handle the new stress of weightlifting. I don't care about your dyel meme diet response, this is what works for 100% of people.

I'm going to help you guys that look like OP

Don't even think about muscle growth or loss. Just pretend like muscle isn't even real. Don't even count grams of protein, don't worry about meal timing, don't worry about sarcoplasmic versus myofibrilar hypertrophy.

Just focus on eating a healthy diet low in calories and while you're doing it try to go to the gym and do some basic weight lifting with moderate to high intensity. Maybe some cardio a few times a week too.

I promise you if you keep this up for months, you will look great at the end of it. You are not a bodybuilder, you're an average fricking dyel nobody. You are not going to look like a hungry skeleton after months of lifting even if you are in a calorie deficit. You will develop muscle if you lift. And even if you look like a hungry skeleton it's going to be 100000x better than looking like a skinnyfat.

Cutting while being a DYEL skinny fat is the dumbest advice people give. You are already genetically inferior than everyone else when it comes to building muscle, why make it even harder? Also you don't have enough energy reserves for building muscle. A belly is not enough for a recomp. It might work for an obese person but not skinny fat DYELs, I tried eating at maintenance for a year but my physique didn't change.

Skinny fats should suck it up and do a bulk with a small surplus. Yeah you might look fluffy in the end but if you do it correctly, you will build some muscle, be stronger and look way better in the end.

TL;DR: Small surplus, take your training seriously, reduce stress cuz cortisol is a gains goblin and focus on sleep.

I'm doing all of the above and I feel way better than I did before. Still a long way to go for me though.

Even my measurements didn't improve. No muscle gain. Recomping is fake and all these fake roided natties should stop telling skinny fat people to "maingain" like Greg moron Doucette.

Either cut or bulk, I'd advice to bulk with mini cuts inbetween.

wish i could have told you that a year ago so you wouldnt have made that mistake.

so they look bulky at best or even more fat at worst no it's better to be skeleton mode then build slowly from there

          Anonymous

Being bulky is better than being a skeleton DYEL struggling to bench press. You will have to do several bulks and cuts to even look like you lift. Recomping you will always look DYEL and be weak.

depends on what you value looks or strength looking like bulky moron for monthes or years isn't worth it imo if you're skelly any type of work out would yield an aesthetic body in a matter of months besides some just get fat and say they are booolking

If you get fat then you are either eating like shit or your training sucks. If you bulk reasonably and don't be a moron about it, you will look fluffy but a lot bigger with muscles. People won't look at you and say "you are fat" they will say "you are a big guy".

Bulk slowly and you won''t get fat.

Enjoy spinning your wheels for years when you could just suck it up, get a bit fluffy and build more muscle in fraction of the time.

Also, are you skinny fat yourself? No? I thought so, so stop giving this dogshit advice like many of the average genetic guys and tell skinny fats to cut when they already have a hard time building muscle.

          t. skinny fat myself. Before I even started lifting, I only ate like one meal a day cuz my appetite is shit and barely ate protein and I didn't even lose my gut. You can't tell me I wasn't in a deficit because that's bullshit.

Bulking is the most important thing if your main goal is strength gains. If you’re just tired of being pudgy or are already obese, then the answer is obviously to cut first, as much as that may negatively affect your gains.

    >Should there be a better term or phrase so they stop getting confused?
Skinnyfats are inherently moronic so it doesn't matter what term you use, they'll misunderstand you anyway.
For example, skinnyfats can't wrap their heads around the fact that they are FAT as your pic nicely proves. I mean, it's even in the name. Of course they shouldn't bulk. So if they mean "lift and put on muscle" when they say "bulk", why can't they just say that instead?

  13. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

It's hard to put on muscle without some kind of a bulk. Where are you getting the energy to workout. Cutting is for dudes who are obese or dudes who have a decent amount of muscle under the fat. Skinnyfats who wanna cut down to a skeleton are shortsighted and shooting themselves in the foot.

      >Where are you getting the energy to workout
They're literally wearing it around their waist.
      >Cutting is for dudes who are obese
      Skinnyfats are obese.
If you want to put on muscle while still losing fat, keep your protein intake relatively high while being in overall caloric surplus and lift, as heavy as you can handle.
      It's really not rocket science.

        > while being in overall caloric surplus

Skinny fat people are not obese, moron. Otherwise they wouldn't be skinny fat, they just be plain obese. Skinny fat people do not have enough energy (body fat) for building muscle, unless you are 30+ percent body fat but thats pure fat, not skinny fat.

          Anonymous

You fricking moron, skinnyfats ARE obese. The OP pic is a textbook skinnyfat and he's easily at 30% bf.
Obese doesn't have to mean "big and round and takes up a lot of physical space". You do realize body composition is a thing, right? The reason some obese people are so big is because they either have a big frame or already have some muscle under their fat. The reason skinnyfats are the worst of all worlds is that they're the double whammy of having way too high a body fat percentage ALONG with no muscle. In fact we could rename "skinnyfat" into "sarcopenic obesity".
TL;DR: they ARE fat and need to stop coping.

400kcal lunch usually Greek yogurt with a banana. 1 or 2 tangerines for snack

Dinner usually some meat with a small potato or veggies as a side

BJJ practice for 1.5 hours 3-4 times a week

Have had a nearly perfect diet for 1 month and with almost no temptations to cheat. BJJ makes me naturally want to eat right to have more energy during rolls

    >Why do people who look like this always ask this question?
Because laziness is what got them that body and they want an excuse to continue to be lazy. Cutting is hard work. Eating like a fat frick is easy, but then you feel guilty. If you call it "bulking" though, then you're not eating like a fat frick, you're "improving." They want an excuse to keep being fat fricks without the guilt.
