you should lift first. See where your body takes you just from starting the workouts. If you've already been lifting, though, I recommend a slight bulk. Just make sure you're full after every meal and have protein taken in every 3 hours.

Bulk. Fat is fairly easy to lose, muscle is not.
You're gonna look grotesque either way, may as well choose the shortest lasting grotesque.

Depends. Are you more skinny or more fat?

If you’re fat, cut. Always. Do you have a beer belly? Love handles? You are fat.

If you’re skinny, bulk slowly. Gain 1 lb per month. Slightly faster is fine, it just means you have to cut sooner, which is a pain.

im skinnyfat at 5'5 134lbs and still got a belly with caloric deficits, I think the only option for skinnyfats is to cut til they don't have a belly or love handles anymore with low bf then slowly clean bulk

      Funny I’m 5’5 but regularly 160~165 lbs
Not really skinny fat but not fat and not skinny

I'd probably look obese at that weight. I feel like what contributed for most of my fat being stuck in my gut was years of sitting on the computer for hours a day. I don't think it's normal to still have a belly at this weight and height. I wanna go down to 120lbs to see what happens.
Despite me having a belly, I can still see some of my abs since I've started doing abs exercises everyday on the gym. Still think my bf is like 20%. Probably gonna run a scan next month.

Eat nutrient dense foods at slightly above maintenance and work your ass off. Then on rest days eat less

5 years ago i was on low carb diet and did hiit everyday. I was losing stomach fat noticeably for the first time in my life.
Then i stopped because it caused me too much constipation and the hell that is my life beat me down.
Now i wanna get back into it. I'm 32 now so it's harder but i'm picking the pace up. Once i'm to the point of not skipping gym even once a week i'll drop this balanced diet and go low carb or even meat only.

I maintained for a few months while lifting, now I'm cutting.
I think cutting first if you can be diligent without seeing strength progress. I needed to be motivated by lifting more to actually get locked in on wanting to change my body.
My cut will be done in a couple months, then I'll slow bulk until the end of the year and either cut a couple kilos for the summer or just keep gaining.

I really don't understand the constant confusion about this. If you're skinnyfat, you're fat.
If you're fat, you need to cut. It's not rocket science.

This. Cut, but cut slowly while lifting and getting enough protein.

Lift and eat better quality food for recomp in the short term
    Once skinny, bulk slowly

currently maintaining + eating more quality food, seems to be going well i.e. slowly gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time. the muscle helps the remaining fat not look nearly as bad

I started at probably 30% body fat and 150lbs. If I tried to cut first, I would have had to go down to being basically a skeleton, all the while with no visible improvement because I had 0 muscle.
I bulked 20 pounds instead and can actually see muscle in the mirror. My body fat percentage also went noticeably down because it was so easy to build muscle.
Of course the problem is now that I'm still fat, which I'm working on.

Check your BMI and decide from there.

If your BMI is overweight or obese then cut, if it's average then slight bulk, and if you're underweight fricking bulk

cut to skinny then bulk. or you could body recomp. you're a beginner. you could just touch the weight and gain muscle.

Cut until you see abs, SLOWLY bulk from there until you're HUGE, and still almost see your abs.
Lost track of your ab outline? You bulked too fast, fricking fatty.
