You are like 30 pounds underweight. At your height you should weigh 200 pounds.

I am 181lbs now and slowly bulking. 200lbs is way too much.

At that height and weight you literally have the lean body mass of a teenage girl. You probably have insane body dysmorphia. At your height, the average healthy male is at least 200 pounds. You should be bulking until you are that weight. You will not get fat, you will just a little bulky, which is better than the alternative.

You shouldn’t be eating in the deficit. If you are skinnyfat, it means you are underweight and have no muscle. You basically have the body of a teenage girl because you’ve lived a sedentary lifestyle and have done little to no exercise. You need to gain like 20 pounds of muscle to catch up to people who played sports in their youth. You need to do an aggressive PPL routine with high volume, with compound lifts at the beginning of each day. Take a rest day every three days. Eat as much protein as you can, you won’t get fat off of eating chicken breast and eggs. In a year you will have a bulky, slightly overweight look but after a month long cut you will look normal.

Not at all i was a tad overweight

You are not overweight. The reason why you look overweight is because you have no muscle so all your fat accumulates around your belly and lower body. All skinny fat people are underweight, at least 20 pounds under what the ideal weight for what their height should be. If you are over the ideal weight for your height, it means you are just fat.

if you cut while being skinny fat you will not only lose the little muscle you have, you wont build any, you will look like shit which in turn will not motivate you like at all

Hypertrophy, high protein, high fat, low carb, no sugars, use creatine. Aim to eat around 3500 cal a day.

You’re skinnyfat because you can’t think beyond six months. Bulk and crush weight like it’s going out of style for months until you are strong and fat, and then slow down how much you eat daily. Your lifts will all decrease, but then you’ll have gone from skinnyfat to fat to strongfat to just strong. Shooting for 1/2/3/4 is a solid idea, but I figure you will either not have the patience to reach it or just stay strongfat without the determination to lose the weight. Why else would you be skinnyfat now?

this is why skinnyfat is a shit starting point
skinny and fat people have it way easier

Skinnyfat comes from neglecting fitness during your youth and just being a couch potato. You’ve literally missed out on 5 years of muscle development in your youth. Lifting is not really the ideal method to lose skinnyfat, it should only be done after you’ve built up a base through sports. That’s why I recommend a PPL 6 days a week routine as it engages your entire body.

You dumb b***h. Fat people are not inherently strong, have a far more difficult time fixing their health, and are more prone to injuries in day to day life. Skinny people don’t have the fat to burn for energy, usually have a thyroid issue if they never put on fat, and have to work longer and harder to get strongfat.

The position you’re in is perfectly fine, you’re just a whining b***h who wants something to change your life in three weeks’ time.

Everyone, even college athletes, are skinnyfat initially. This is young Tom Brady. However, they usually only need to pack on a couple pounds of muscle to get a lean physique compared to needing to gain 20 pounds of muscle like the average skinnyfat poster. Tom Brady in this picture is actually perfectly normal and healthy. If you look like this and think you are ‘skinnyfat’ then you just have body dysmorphia.

Why would you cut out carbs? You will not have the energy do do any workouts. You cannot eat 3500 calories a day with a protein only diet. You should only be eating 500 calories over maintenance—you shouldn’t cut off carbs, you just need to ensure you are getting enough protein.

That’s the term NGMI exists. If you can’t understand your body is a machine and that fat is a part of the process, you’re too dumb to ever experience meaningful change

If you’re telling me on behalf the skinnyfats, let them speak for themselves.

Wish all skinnyfats would just go on a diet and get some exercise for 8 months. It would bring your out of skinnyfatness to get rid of your visceral fat. There's so much disease you're incurring from having it.

    > you should NOT be eating in a deficit. You HAVE TO gain 100 pounds

can someone explain why? I've read that being skinnyfat and being on a deficit can cause low T, which makes it harder to gain muscle but why does one have to gain weight? Shouldn't eating at around 2.000 kcals be fine too?

      Anonymous

      it does and it willl
doing a bulk for 6-8 months is good for getting some muscle
if you then cut for 6 months you can train in the higher rep ranges with a bit less weight

my question was whether eating normal / slightly below normal (so not something crazy like either 3500 or 1200 / day) is really not an option. Which is what I've been doing for about 2 months now

it is a very valid option
          its slower

Stop being hyperbolic and making excuses. Why the frick would you go on a deficit if you are 30 fricking pounds underweight? You are literally a twig. If you are 30 pounds underweight, you need to gain 30 pounds. If you are a novice lifter, you can gain 2 pounds of muscle a month. You could literally just go on autopilot mode and achieve this. Genuinely look at yourself in the mirror and realise how skinny you are underneath all the fat. Take a mirror picture of yourself and look at it and you will realise this.

Getting out of dyel tier as a”skinny fat” has already been figured out. Most of the posters here already know what they should be doing and it’s simple but boring.
So my question is, why aren’t you doing it instead of sabotaging yourself cutting when you are skinny?

      Anonymous

      bulk 8 months
      cut 6 months
      bulk another year
      cut another 6 months
      maybe repeat for another cycle

      there you go

      Anonymous

Other thread where i asked was pruned, but does that mean I should continue my bulk? I gained somewhere between 5 and 9 lbs since the start of year, and a good chunk of it was muscle since I look bigger around the torso more so than the waist, and of course getting stronger on lifts. Also bodyfat estimate? My guess is 19%

        Anonymous

According to your estimate ,you’ve gained at most 9 lbs in 5 months. Your lifts are going up. Just keep doing what you are doing. You don’t need a body fat estimate, just make sure your T-shirts are getting tighter faster than your pants around the waist. You can easily keep bulking at a pace of a pound a month for another year without getting fat as long as you are putting in the work.

      Wrong

    >Be me
    >5'7 162lbs no muscle
    >Eat in deficit, lose 27lbs
    >Start lifting weights, remain in deficit for a few months
    >Hit 12% bf
    >Start bulking, 500cal surplus for a year
    >Hit 160lbs 20%bf
    >Cut again
    >Currently at 12% bf with the same amount of muscle I had at 160lbs

You can escape it, you just need to be patient. I recommend cutting to sub 15% bodyfat while lifting. Then bulking from there. 500cal was probably too much, 300 should be enough to grow muscle over an extended period of time.
