So I tried his cold shower protocol for fat loss

So I tried his cold shower protocol for fat loss
The problem is that fat is burned due to shivering, and I physically cant shiver
Tried all temperatures, from slightly unpleasant to ice cold, any advice? How to shiver??

No, just dont know how to produce shivering
I will feel physical pain from cold, even become slightly red and have shallow breath, but cant shiver and that is the key thing to fat loss

I thought it was due to the body trying to get your temp back to normal and the stress it needs to overcome.

No, it's mainly due to the body heating itself up, like points out.

He uses his expertise in one field to talk with authority about others. People trust what he says and see him as a authority figure even though he only has a surface level knowledge about most things he talks about and peddles some really weird. But hey he must be right when he gives fitness advice or talks about psychedelics or trauma because he is a Stanford man after all. He's a hack and glorified supplements salesman.

He makes things more complicated than they have to be, but his meditation talks instantly improved my life. I tried Time Space Bridging and Yoga Nidra and now after decades of not being able to take a nap I can fall asleep in the middle of the day and get some rest. The thing that helped me the most was the idea that meditation has two polarities. I had been taught to focus on breathing or a spot on a wall. I was really good at this. There was even a point in my twenties when I could do it for hours on end. The problem is that there is a flip side to meditation almost nobody teaches and that's the idea that you can meditate without focus to relax or drift off to sleep. Now I have a system where I put on some audio like a podcast, ignore it and my surrounding, including my thoughts, and even when I don't fall asleep I can get up feeling rested after however long I want. This helps even when I haven't slept all night because I have a chronic sleep disorder. In fact, I get more rest from one of these sessions than I do most nights. It's fricking crazy to be honest. In short, now I mine his podcasts for ideas simply because he comes at things from a different angle. I hate his science babble though. It doesn't help you apply anything.

I haven’t heard those talks of his, you recommend looking into time space bridging and yoga nidra? Your results sound very interesting. Always had trouble with sleep and daytime irritability from interrupted/lack of sleep.

So you close your eyes and focus on nothing while there is a bunch of background noise and take a nap?

I can do this with or without napping and surprisingly even after a night of no sleep I'm way more rested and alert. I don't have links to the studies, but there is some evidence for this with Yoga Nidra. The best session I had was about two hours with my eyes completely open. You can transition into napping if you want. In fact, for me even napping was a massive improvement. I'm 40 and haven't been able to nap without missing several nights of sleep ever until I practiced this.

Yes, but that 1-3 minutes out just do nothing for me, if I understood correctly that is the time to shiver and even desire the cold water again? Is it about general air temperature in the bathroom? My flat is kinda hot

Possibly to bring you back to baseline before restarting therapy to burn more? Like how a car burns more fuel accelerating than cruising.

No. That is not when you shiver. You go back into the shower after that break. Then repeat. You should shiver in the shower.

It won't lead to massive fat loss, but it's actually a great idea for people trying to get a few stubborn pounds off. Or people stuck at a weight plateau.

Thats basically me, Im not fat, but need to drop few bf points
If I eat less its automatically goodbye to bench, weighted pull ups and deadlift goals, so cold showers (if they work) would be the most painless way longterm

You can physically shiver trust me. But the idea behind a lot of the cold shower stuff is brown fat, which I don’t think you need to shiver for.

Does he really say cold showers burn fat? It'd be a very tiny amount or you'd have to drop your temperature for hours and you'd only be able to drop the temperature of your epidermis since most of the volume in your body is well insulated with fat.
Please tell me you've made this up and this dude doesn't actually claim cold showers burn fat.

He doesnt, he says there is mechanism in which shivering burns fat

I am not going to watch the podcast because I am at work.
I still think shivering to raise ones temperature can't really burn that many calories and you shouldn't do it as a weight loss method. You might even damage your muscles or nerves witht he constant shivering.

          >fat is burned due to shivering
          You are a dumbass

Its not about raising temperetures, in fact he dont think cold exposure is effective in that sense, he even talks about long sea swimmers (dont know proper term, guys who swim in ocean for long periods etc) and how they are mostly fat because they adapted
Shivering kills fat because its some kind of micromovement, you should really watch it for more info

Bro you want to actually generate heat more

Inthat same vein it makes more sense to burn some firewood or whatever you have than to cover yourself with it.

shivering is just another form of NEAT that can be controlled by environmental factors; NEAT is known to be a significant amount of TDEE contribution, even more so than intentional exercise.

more specifically this form of stimulus activates succinate accumulation, so researchers posit cold exposure -> shivering -> succinate accumulation -> selective brown fat loss, how significant that is depends on the level of activity conducted within that window and was outside the scope of that paper. using curare to reduce shivering interrupts that flow.
