Obviously weights would be better, abs are still a muscle. Use a kettlebell.

no weights or you'll look like a bloated powerlifter, it's a muscle that favours volume

that's not how muscles work. let me guess you need to tone them?

I use to do weighted sit ups but learned leg raises and the ab roller work much much better and have a functional carry over for fricking

Basically all my workouts are optimized for fricking ama

Yessir they increase hip power mobility lower back and endurance

Definitely worth throwing into your routine same with hip thrusts and high rep squats at 60-70% 1rm

kek it's crazy how widespread is the concept of "toning" muscles by curling 1kg dumbbells and doing other useless shit. I was just shitposting to confuse OP though

Basically, you get abs in 2 ways.

    1. Lose fat
    2. Build bigger abs

And you build bigger abs by either overloading them with volume or intensity. You can build abs if you do more and more crunches, or you can do 3x10 weighted crunches and add weight over time.

      Anonymous

Add weight over time? The frick, isn't it done holding a plate? How do you add weight if the heaviest are 20kg lmao
That's the problem with abs and why so many people don't work them, you cannot overload them with weight

        Anonymous

        use one of these

this shit is trash i cant feel them no matter what i try, i just do crunches and leg raises.

Really? It hits mine very hard.maybe go up in weight a lot and see if that helps, I had to put a lot of pl8s on to feel the benefit.

    Have you seen arnold's abs?
What ab workout did he say he did?
    Stomache vaccuum.
    No weights.
    No spine injury.
And you can do it anywhere, anytime.
I am doing it right now sitting at my computer.

you can't trust a single thing arnold says about working out. he'd be on here shitposting about his lifts and routines if he was younger

a lot of pro bodybuilders seem to subscribe to only bodyweight exercises for abs for whatever reason, i know jay cutler, arnold, and kai greene all just did bodyweight crunch/leg weight type movements

i guess it's because no one really cares about the size of their abs, you just need to have the bare minimum amount of muscle needed to have your insertions show when you're lean

You literally cannot add weight to abs exercises Black person, not all gyms have niche machines, you're not going to build muscle with 20 kg max

Kek the weighted crunch machine isn't niche machine you moron. I go to a 24 hour fitness that has two, and I'm pretty sure every planet fitness in the world has at least one.

24 hour gym exist in a shithole Lithuania. and every gym has this machine, but people are smart enough not to use it as it sucks. Start with legs close to the body. Put them further as you progress. After you do crunches with straight legs, just take weights and do crunches or leg raises

Decline ab bench, take a plate, do decline situps.WOW. Hanging from a bar, take a db between your feet.WOW. Go to a cable machine, kneel down in front of it, take the bar and do crunches.WOW. You dont need a specific ab machine you black gorilla Black person!

How can I train abs efficiently rather than just doing situps?

What's some good excercies for abs that you can do with either dumbells, barbells?

          Barbell ab rollout.
          Landmine twists.
          Single-arm push away press.
          Barbell overhead carry.
          Landmine side bends.
          Plank lateral rollout.
          Sit up press.
          Barbell leg raise.
          Suitcase deadlift.
          Sitting landmine Russian twist.

literally the first thing that came up on google

Ah yes, just like you can get massive biceps with just balancing a weight with your arms extended. You don't need concentric movement, it's a meme

          Anonymous

Your analogy sucks, it would only work if the alternatives to train your biceps had a pathetic max weight or were just calisthenics

            Anonymous

What is "pathetic max weight"? As in, do you see it as a problem one can't incline sit-up, hanging leg raise, or standing cable curl multiple plates?

              Anonymous

Most of the weighted ab exercises are basically "hold a plate while doing it" ok so I can do it with a 20kg without blowing up my muscles, now what ? No progression is possible but more reps

                Anonymous

                You can use dumbbells.

You don’t need weights for ab exercises but you can use them if you feel like you need to but i promise you don’t.

    Three core exercises is all you need;
    Ab roller
    Hanging leg raises
    Vacuums

    Basic full ab workout:
These are basic and you can progress to diff exercises

    Some flavor of crunch
    Some flavor of plank
    Ab rollout
Side planks to whatever oblique iso
    Reverse crunch to whatever HLR

Start with BW and progress to weighted once 20reps don’t tire you out/develop anything. The problem with ab stuff is that there are so much options it’s easy to get confused, just keep these isolations in mind
