It worked for me. I have no depression and almost zero anxiety despite my life being objectively far better before- full head of hair, great job and education, lots of female attention. I got on roids too though

The reason for this is it is a weak and feminine act to be outwardly depressed as a part of your character.
If you work out and get strong, you are able to present a much more positive version of yourself to the outside world because you understand through your own journey that nobody likes the weak, depressed dude you used to be. Much more respect is given to the positive stoic that's working on himself versus the depressed weakling that whines and changes nothing.
It's a positive feedback loop in a way.

I noticed the same thing. Occasionally I write what I'm thinking in a journal and recently I re-read my thoughts from a few years ago before I made this transformation.

I was an incredibly whiny, pathetic creature. I feel about my past self the way a high school bully feels about a nerd. It's surreal that I basically am the 'bully' in this situation, while also being a decent guy who just happens to be more masculine than average. I'm not mean to anyone, but I don't take shit - which never even comes up because almost no one ever gives me shit.

it's kind of a trip. this whole experience taught me that people severely underestimate how much life can change you. I am currently what my old self would call a 'masculine caricature'.

Same. I never understand the people who say that exercise helps their mental health. For me it doesn't help at all. I'll be in the middle of an intense workout but inside I'm thinking about so much bullshit and sometimes even crying inside. It does help indirectly to make myself feel better physically and gives me a reason to go do something out of the house.

Women prefer funny and confident men. You don't need to "be" anything except your self. When she loves you, she'll love you for your personality. When you come home after a PR and she sees your excitement she'll be intoxicated by your emotions and come grab your arms. If you came home with a promotion she'd run jump in your arms as well. Women love you once you love yourself, and whatever it is you're passionate about. She likes your dick because you love it and is confident about it. If it's huge she'll call you huge because she knows you like it, if you're tiny she'll say you move like a master because she loves you - anything to make you feel good.

When you're ripped she'll see the confidence that exudes from your body, and be infatuated with it. But it's you that she loves. It doesn't matter if it's music, sports, science or arts, as long as you live with passion and progress. You'll sweep any girl of her feet.

There is a world out there, and whatever the internet has brainwashed you into believing is wrong. Be your self, have fun, enjoy what you do, progress and don't give a shit if others find it "sexy". If being huge makes you happy, then that's what she'll find sexy.

        >> PS: Don't equate "being yourself" and "doing what you want" with playing video games and being a sloppy neckbeard. I'm talking about achieving dreams and living your life to the fullest. Have a positive outlook and get rid of all your excuses.

Confidence comes from honing a skill or life path. Being funny comes from confidence. Sure you might not be funny to everyone, but you'll be funny to the ones that matter, and confidence doesn't need to extend to every aspect of your life, just in the contexts that matter to you.

Can't really say, to be honest. It took me a rough divorce for something to just snap, and break the chains in my mind for some kind of "personality" to take form and made me strike out on my own. I've got tons of positive reactions to my new personality, but also a plenty of people who can't deal with me not giving a particular frick about them.

                Anonymous

I was waiting for a snap kind of moment but nothing ever came along. Must feel nice to get those positive reactions from people, and also that you don't need to care about everyone anymore

not that guy but I'm just as old, I just stopped giving a frick, I like what and who I like and I act on it. Honestly it's not the best approach if you want to be liked but again, I don't really care about that anymore.

My anxiety at 28 is less than at 18, and I think I needed all this time to even get to a level where I can address this. Being liked cognitively is not what I want, just the brain is used to always doing what will make the most number of people like me - which funnily enough has stopped working recently, my insincerity must be obvious from a mile away

I've just realised this post was very edgy and I didn't mean it. I tried being more outgoing and conventionally fun in my 20s and I could do it but by the end of the day I was absolutely drained.
Much like the other dude here I just couldn't keep that facade anymore after a pretty bad breakup, it took me a good 3 years to fully recover from that and it happened when I realised there's no need to pretend to be anyone else. I can only play to my strengths instead of acting against my deepest nature. Hope it makes sense bro best of luck

            >such I don't have any base of "just be yourself"
            then build it!

Most normies usually change completely every decade or two
find out what makes you passionate about
            it won't be easy
pay attention on where you lose track of time, like you do something and suddenly it's 3h later - this is a good indicator of things you usually really enjoy doing
if you don't have anything like this, take some time and think about your goals in life, where do you want to be in 10years in 20 and so on
this doesn't have to be something great
simple things like "I want to be able to go to the sauna every weekend" or "I enjoy cooking so I want a large kitchen and be able to spend 2h / day to cook something" are completely valid goals to!
make a plan with small steps on how to achieve these goals
and in no time you have a "self"
suddenly you're the person that often does X or regularly goes to Y etc.

            really try it
having a "self" isn't only for your potential partner
it does wonders for your mental wellbeing
            and your social life

Thanks for the advice. The thing about losing track of time is good, basically any activity that gets you in a flow state.
I feel like I have enough things to be able to build something of a personality for myself, and then maybe actually the bigger problem is being secure in myself to share those with other people.

try seeing it more as filling your life with joy and happiness
building a personality will feel like a chore
the goal here is to live a fulfilling life
                a happy life
where you focus on the things you want to
and where you can look back in a few years / decades and say my time was well spend

                >the bigger problem is being secure in myself
                don't even think about this
                never
you do you, your life, you only got one (or just this one for the moment if you're religious)
confidence will come once you're more satisfied with yourself
this is nothing you have to worry about!

Holy frick, bros. Is it really this perfect?

          Pretty much this

People accuse me of “lifting to look good” but I would likely have killed myself long ago if it wasn’t for the small bit of dopamine and endorphins or whatever chemical my brain releases as a result of working out. It’s all that I have to get by, I am so lonely.

          Same.

        >all else equal, women prefer handsome twinks and not handsome bodybuilders
the point is all else is not equal, being a handsome twink is heavily dependent on age/frame/looks even personality, there are people that will never be twinks but could improve themselves with exercise/hypertrophy. Its like saying if you can't become a doctor there's no point being an electrician, just because you cannot be "the best" doesn't mean being better is not worth trying.

Yeah pray, work long hours and jump in with both feet knowing that half of business fail in the first 5 years. You better have a product you believe in.
Also once established always be on the lookout for horizontal expansion.
Do you make widgets? Those widgets need to be cleaned, stored, tested/audited, repaired, upgraded etc. and you are the guy to do it.
Our side businesses now makes the same amount as our main business.
Humility is important too, I view everything as a gift from God.
        >how do you make sure to provide value to your community/profitability
Hire people you trust, trust the people you hire and fill positions by word of mouth. Be generous.

    'Women don't like buff guys'...

I keep seeing this bandied about as gospel but it's not the whole picture. Women don't like freakbeast guys. They don't like guys who are ridiculously muscled. They absolute like guys with athletic physiques and definition. They just don't understand that guys with athletic physiques still have to work out a lot. The same women who say 'I can't lift weights I'll get too bulky' are the same women who think that dudes who pump iron look like Arnold. They don't get that even a decent body requires some consistent exercise. That's why you can literally tell them you do yoga or pilates and they'll believe it. They have no concept of what it takes to have the hollywood buff body.
When you ask a women do you like men who have muscles and lift weights they assume you're talking about roided out meatheads. I talked to a 40 year old female coworker about this two days ago. 'Yeah I just don't see the appeal of guys who go to the gym all that big bulky muscle all hard... It's just weird it doesn't do anything for me.' She was completely oblivious to the fact that theres a massive gulf between guys who work out and maintain a good body and guys who compete in bodybuilding competition.
Girls absolutely like big arms and shoulders. They absolutely get weak in the knees for defined abs, thick necks, juicy glutes and a muscular back. When they say they don't want a big muscle man they're literally talking about Mr Olympia tier mass monsters because they don't get that you can lift weights regularly and not look like that. Half the time they find out you go to the gym and they're surprised you don't look like that.

If you're natty you will never be "too big" for most women, excluding some that just don't like any muscles and prefer twinks/chubby men or whatever.

Even if you are roiding, the fitness industry and now influencers/tiktok fake natties have shifted the perception of "natty achievable" so much that you're still probably not going to get too big.

The problem is whether women prefer one body type over another is irrelevant when it is not of high priority to them. So in that regard that faux guy is right. Think about it this way, if a muscular, ripped body mattered a lot to women they would all pick the less attractive jacked guys over the handsome skinny or even skinnyfat guys. Or they would pick the short but fit guy over the tall but slightly overweight or lanky guy. The reality is that even if they preferred muscular guys, which could be entirely true, it just isn't important enough to them to sway their decision.

I lift so I can stay capable and in good health.
I lift because it helps to clear my mind in a life that's otherwise full of concerns and worries.
I lift for the satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment I get when I hit a new PR or grind through a particularly challenging set or workout.
I lift because even in spite of the hard work and technique training I do, the weights still manage to keep me humble.
I lift because being in good health, having good posture and developed muscles makes me feel confident, and I like to imagine, in turn inspires other people's confidence in me.
    I lift for the pump.
I lift because otherwise I'd just sit at home and beat my dick in front of the computer.
I lift because I've had a taste of the good life, and I'm not going back to being a doughy little b***hmade DYEL. Vain as it may sound, I never had women come on to me or clinging to my arm before, and while I never had seething DYELs try to give me shit before, I could never shut them down so confidently as I can now if I didn't lift.

I work in tech, so if I'm a skinny weakling then people assume I'm a pretentious, superiority-complex-having homosexual.
When people learn that I'm in tech after the first impression of "damn, I wish I had a body like that" it earns a ton of respect.
I still have a superiority complex, but people respect it in this case, because they know I'm superior.

I was a late bloomer, I never really thought about it while in school but it took a toll on me. Girls weren't interested, I wasn't good at sports, and I was always skinny fat. I also had a small dick (legit 4" into high school) and a fricked up home life. I flat out accepted girls weren't into me and didn't even try, same thing with pretty much all aspects of my life.

I got to college and just got sick of it. I was sick of being bad at fricking everything. I decided to try, for once in my life actually work at something and give it my all so at least I could look back and know that I did something about it.

I hit the gym and went religiously (5-6 days a week) and started giving a shit about my appearance. I couldn't even do a pull-up or bench more than 90lbs at first, but I sucked it up and kept going. For the first time in my life I noticed progress, I actually became stronger. I realized I had a lot of bad shit instilled in me from my childhood and this was the kick I needed to overcome it. I'm not sure if it was just my age or the test boost from lifting, but it was like I hit a second puberty. I started getting some hair on my chest, the fat on my face went away, started seeing abs, my dick was now hitting 7", and I felt confident talking to other people.

My life did a complete 180, I was getting hit on all the time, had my first kiss with a girl who asked me out, met my gf (also asked me out), started getting As instead of B/C's, got compliments on my appearance, and felt a lot better about myself. One that really stands out was when I was working an internship and there were pictures taken of us and someone in the office saw my pic and out loud said "that kid looks like an Abercrombie model lol" when looking through them. Never in my life had I heard someone say that about me who wasn't my mom, and for no reason either.

I lift now to maintain discipline but also as physical thank you to the gym. I owe the weights everything in my life.

    WOMEN LOVE THE LOOK
The only reason they say they don't is a massive group shit test for ALL men. When you are jacked you signal yourself as a high value man. When you are weak because "women prefer it" you signal yourself as a man that can be manipulated to do whatever women want you to do.

NEVER LISTEN TO WHAT A WOMAN SAYS

      Anonymous

Unironically this. Women are hardly capable of introspection due to society coddling them. Their words cannot be trusted as they don't own what they think want feel or intend, not even to themselves. Everything is presentation, including their sexual preferences, because it is all calculating their value in the socio-sexual marketplace.

You children can assume inceldom all you want, but in reality this view comes from too much wasted time on cumdumpsters. Even the good women need an actual man to keep them in check and demand more from them than the world around them does.

    Will to power, overman, etc.
I believe that with perfection being unattainable but within the realm of imagination, it's man's duty to pursue it. I also believe that building your best self is the best way to leave a positive mark on the world and the lives of others.
I pursue power and strength as a means to embody my perfect self as closely as possible, and as a means to secure my freedom to do so.
I do the same with everything else.
