Squatting in a hole in the ground

Have you done this? Have any pictures? I want to try this, as any form of a squat rack is ruled out in my situation. Using a hole just as deep as the bottom position makes sense, but I'm a bit perplexed why I can't find anyone actually trying this.

It's retarded because a power rack is more useful but Paul Anderson did this

Thank you, this is beyond based. I'm beyond looking for useful, I just need the bare minimum.

Based, but make sure the "floor" of your hole is reinforced, or at least you make sure it's at the same depth every once in a while. Slowly the dirt will give way at your feet and your depth will decrease over time.

    t. Lifted on grass and dirt before.

Good tip, thanks anon. I'm wondering whether there's any disadvantage or even danger to starting the squat from the bottom position? I seem to recall Rippetoe disapproving on his forum.

If you're not properly warmed up, you can build up pressure in your head too fast and pass out.

Would that setup prevent me from warming up properly, though?

Idk where you live and what the water table is like but for alot of places this probably going to get washed out or become a mud pit not to mention a hazard.

Won't have issues with the water table, the hole will be much shallower. I can just dig it up again if the rain washes it out. My main concern is how to pitch my idea to the landlord.

No I mean over time the edges of the hole are going to wash out even if you keep the grass on the edge.

Also a deep hole like that seems to be a significant liability issue and potential hazard imho from the landlord's perspective. I mean I don't have a land lord but I wouldn't want it close enough by my house to be convenient. Sure I could go out in the woods and dig one but then I'd have to go out there to do squats etc.

Yeah, I think you're right about the landlord. The woods would be my last ditch effort, I do live near a forest. No idea how I'd drag my weights out though. Maybe a cart or some sort bike trailer. I could also but some boards and held against the earth by stakes around the edges to stop it caving in.

If I catch you out in my woods digging holes though I'd be pretty pissed.

What if you caught me squatting in a hole in your woods?

I would go get a shovel from the back of the truck and stand there with a gun on you while you fill it back up.

Have not tried but this seems based, truly authentic and functional lifting

    >go troll mode
    >lift weights in a big dirt pit in your backyard
    >as you get stronger you move into an abandoned mineshaft with glittering garden gnomeels in the walls with old mining lanters all around

At that point you might as well be jumping out of an increasingly deeper hole like a 70s Kung fu movie training sequence
