        Literally nobody who’s done it for real thinks it’s a good idea. Backpacking people chime in like their opinion matters when their packs top out at 45lbs and they’re doing like 8 miles a day on a soft trail.

          I used to be in the infantry in the Marine Corps. Rucks were absolutely dreadful. Don’t think I’ve done one with less than 70 lbs. I think the most I’ve done was just under 100lbs. The fire in my calves, my shoulders going numb from keeping the straps tight, the lower back and knee pain. Thank god I don’t have any permanent damage (at least from what I can tell). I understand in a military context why you need to ruck but for normal people, it’s just intentionally training dumb and will eventually frick your body up

        Just don't run, obviously. You shouldn't be running with a loaded pack, at most you should be walking briskly so that the impact is low. Walking under a load is a perfectly fine way to make a walk more exerting as long as you aren't stupid.

    i know for German BKA/Police its something like that:
    Discipline Requirement for Men Training Duration Estimate (Weeks)
    3000 Meter Run Under 12:00 minutes 8-12 weeks
    Pull-Ups At least 5 repetitions 8-10 weeks
    Standing Long Jump At least 2.10 meters 6-8 weeks
    Box-Boomerang Test Under 15.5 seconds 4-6 weeks
    Sit-Ups At least 30 in 1 minute 6-8 weeks

    that should be your baseline.

    8min/mi is a good run pace for 4mi plus

    35lbs 12mi 3hrs. Is basic I would say. Also you can Pack your ruck with everything you would bring and see how much it weighs first then do 2mi see how you feel, then 4, 6, 8, 12, then just ruck for time and see how far you can go.

    730-8 min/mile for 5 miles
    12 miles in under 3 hours with 35-50lbs
    user dependent but a 1/2/3/4 is a good baseline for your average guy
    If I have guys who can't at least fulfill the first two criteria I'll PT him until he can.

Said new privates are very hit and miss and thus require the proper mentorship and motivation to become a stud in our stud platoon. Do you accept that answer or do you just want to argue with strangers online?

              Usually you have to try out so they'll take the best 30ish guys out of however many are in a battalion. In my battalion that one platoon of 30 dudes got allocated as many school slots as any of the other companies (company is 130ish dudes). On my deployment they did literally nothing except hang out at the largest FOB and work out and do whatever classes were available.
