Because the economy is in fricking shambles and they don't sell fresh fruit anymore. We only get half-rotting fruit now.

then what's stopping you from growing your own fruits?

not that anon but growing fruit can be a massive task. not only do you need the space for it, but you need quality soil, and most fruit trees will take years before they even begin fruiting, let alone giving you anything quality.
my parents have had a lemon tree for over 5 years and they had to harvest every lemon on it to make one lemon tart for my dad's birthday.

vegetables are a bit easier, but there are still a lot of variables. depending on what (if anything) is happy to grow in your climate, growing things yourself can often be vastly more expensive than simply buying.
herbs are a no brainer though. they require little space, little attention, and are used in such small quantities that it doesn't matter if they're not prolific.

              This.
I got some land, some fruit trees and sometimes larp as a farmer to keep the tradition going. However buying shit is just cheaper in every single instance except potatoes and onions.
However, I do want to keep the tradition going because I'm paranoid about these motherfrickers running our countries and economies, and if (and when) shit does hit the fan, I'm gonna drop and remove my footprint off this fricking world like you wouldn't believe, and simply become self sustained, so God help me!

Well they're not super expensive here but the quality has gone down by a lot.
Some of the fruit and veggies we get are already rotting by the time they get here and they still put them up on display because thye have nothing else. Europe is a fricking nightmare now.

oranges are overrated for vitamin c, if you can't get oranges just look up vitmain c sources, it's in damn near everything, including cheap supplements

Just a quick note for anyone serious about this, your skin gets extremely dry and starts cracking if you take too much vitamin C.

Apples are overall very lame nutrition wise. It's funny because they are arguably the most popular fruit. I think it's because of how convenient they are.

I love pomegranate but they’re pricey and are such a pain in the ass to open. I like throwing pomegranate seeds in my smoothies or on top of my oatmeal

My favorite meal for (micro) nutrition purposes is:
    >Two gold kiwi
    >Two hard-boiled egg
    >Can of sardines in olive oil (drained)
I feel amazing after I started eating this every day. It's not too expensive since I buy the eggs/kiwis in bulk at Costco.
