I'm glad people are starting to see what an absolute meme that routine. A lot of new people on IST don't realise that if you came here or Reddit 10 years ago people made out like it was impossible to make gains without doing SS or squatting or deadlifting

What do you mean you don't get gains. Imagine especially the upper body gains when all you is 3x5 pressing and nothing else to develop upper body per training session. It's not even 3x5+ which would imply you do a set of as many reps as possible.

          [...]
Programs such as 531 and others which have you do the last set for max reps make more sense whether you want mass or strength (you get both) so at least changing 3x5 -> 3x5+ would save the program even a bit. It means if you aren't feeling well you can do just 5 reps in the last set, but if you are feeling great you can do more. And should be able to do more basically every time.

          >treating a beginner strength routine as possibly an intermediate or bodybuilding routine
          >main point is volume
          >beginner routine
sorry let me correct myself. its only a meme if you couldn't figure out this isn't an bodybuilding or intermediate routine

And I know that 531 isn't a beginner program but the principle stays.

    I went from 150 squat, 205 DL, 75 OHP, 85 Bench to 275 squat, 315 DL, 125 OHP, 160 Bench in 3 months. It's pretty good progress I'd say.

Outdated, but hugely important for bringing barbells to the masses.
