It’s the truth of our modern world, academia is full of paid shills unironically, and “science” is hard to trust since you can find an article that supports any side as the vax showed. It’s all fricked tbqh

This works if you want a healthy weight

Yeah the body always aims for a little surplus for survability reasons so if you go by hunger alone and do OMAD or 2MAD you will maintain weight or gain a bit.

Counting calories will FEEL too restrictive and eating healthy food might make you FEEL good for making a good choice rather than eating less fries or other goyslop. I disagree with their reasoning, mostly because its aimed at people who want to have a "normal" body instead of becoming shredded, but I do understand why they recommend this.
OP would rather have you be outraged at the headline instead of trying to understand other people because being angry at them is easier and feels better

I have exercised for over a decade with great success and I do not count calories. I used to but honestly you will drive yourself mad trying to do it, especially if you are on vacation, have a lifestyle that requires you to eat out or order a lot, etc. It is also just mentally unhealthy to fixate on things like that and it will just be a source of unhappiness and tension. I look at how many calories the food I buy has so I can have a general sense, but I don't count it as I eat and have developed a good sense intuitively of how much I am taking in. The truth is, even if you are counting calories religiously, you are still 100% guessing at what your BMR is and how much of a surplus/deficit to eat at, so it is always guesswork no matter what. I would rather eat intuitively, weigh myself weekly to see if I've gained or lost or maintained, and adjust my sense of how much to eat accordingly.

What I DO count is protein

Counting calories actually works best for me for maintenance and gaining. Cutting I get to a point where I try to cheat the numbers.
