biceps are one of the most visible muscle groups and aren't hit very hard by most normal training. they're a glamour muscle, one of the biggest determiners of whether you look like you lift, and it doesn't take that much effort to get them pretty big. why wouldn't you do them?

        Anonymous

        >it doesn't take that much effort to get them pretty big.
I wish bro, biceps are one of the "slower" muscles to grow (as in they have to be hit a lot to look good, not that they grow faster or slower than other muscles)

Which is why preacher curls suck even more since they completely eliminate stabilizer usage, unlike a real-world scenario. Who the frick even came up with this exercise.

Not those anons but it hits the bicep differently and hits your forearm harder then regular curls. I like doing them on a preacher bench.

would low weight, high reps help avoid a bicep tear?

been doing them for a month now at a low weight and so far so good.

Not that guy but they're great for the brachialis that sits under the biceps and gives your arm more fullness.

The money thing aside, Tom was also toxic, threw tantrums (on one occasion he destroyed hotel room), threatened people, harassed Jujis wife, and so on. I think their friendship was already suffering a lot anyway. I do think it all stems from him thinking he wasn't getting the appreciation he deserved but maybe it's just a part of his personality we didn't really get to see.

I know man, Tom definitely has some problems, but I think it's an impulsive thing
He just needs help and he's basically a one man production crew and Juji's manager it was obviously too stressful
the stress was feeding into his instability and spiraling
Tom was destroying himself on purpose subconsciously just to get a break
He might have BDP or something, it's pretty common for men to ignore that kind of diagnosis because men don't care about mental illness as much as women
Juji is honestly too stupid, no offense I love the guy, to realize that there's an underlying mechanism to Tom's chaos
His ego clearly reached critical and blew up, so in Juji's eyes Tom is just a dick head and a bad hombre, but I don't buy it
How can you be best friends with someone for years and then all of a sudden believe they're evil?

The key is to do them on an incline bench so you can’t extend past a healthy range of motion. Idiots don’t them on these preacher curl pad things and then at the bottom they extend too far and stretch their bicep too much and it snaps.

He loked better halfway through his mental illness when he was doing heavy barbell lifts with Tom, I like the look of just strong bodies like him in that Era, bugez or szatstrength more than the goofy bodybuilding body. There's no reason to go so crazy on steroids and being strong creates better aesthetics than cramming unnecessary mass on your frame imo. I want to be big but whatever got into him is ridiculous.

Preacher benches mostly suck. Ideally they'd be more vertical so that your elbow is only a couple inches further forward than your shoulder. You don't fricking want peak tension at the bottom of a curl for safety reasons. A little bit is ok.

I think it comes from going too heavy and incorrect lifting.
You should push yourself, but you should be only doing enough that you can maintain a good, slow, fluid motion. Only go up in weight, if you are doing like 15 reps easily. In my opinion, going for that extra rep is more beneficial and more safe than reaching for that extra 10lbs

Seems like sound advice, if you can do 15 reps you're above the hypertrophy range and getting diminishing returns, regardless of number of reps if you're only doing <12 you're getting a good mix of strength and size

Idk tbh! But I’ve been lifting for over a decade and have been through numerous injuries. I don’t even do dead lift anymore (aka back snaps). I had a pec strain twice the last one was so bad i quit working out for a while (over a year) and had to see a PT. He had me do stretches and I can lift now but after facing enough injuries I always
        >warm up
        >avoid high injury risk exercises (dead lift, heavy curls, heavy squats, heavy flat bench press)
        >pyramid up the weight
        >rest each muscle more often
        >rest 1-2 full weeks every couple months
Trust me on this because once you experience a loss of gains from injury or god forbid a tear. You will be treated like a subhuman, by girls at the taco shop, the cashier high schooler boys will try and mog you. After my injuries I realized that I took for granted the sacred gift god has given me, he allowed me to be a mogger. If your a blessed mogger thank God tonight

It requires surgery and you won't be able to use your arms for months, which will cause atrophy. Afterwards it's going to be months/years of rehab, combined with a dosage of luck deciding other factors such as permanent weakness, tingling, numbness, pain, etc.
It's very likely he'll have life-long trouble with elbow plus shoulder flexion and rotating his forearms.

        If it ever happens:
        >immediately contact a doctor about it because you WILL need surgery to reattach it
        >find out if the doctor wants to put you in a cast or a brace
        >if he wants to put you in a cast, find another doctor
        >a physician that puts you in a brace will give it a week after surgery before putting you in the brace
        >week by week, you will visit him and he will adjust your brace, giving you more movement
        >you will begin PT the first week you are in the brace
        >At 6-8 weeks, depending on your progress, the brace is gone however, the brace could remain just to keep you from hyperextending your arm.
        >I wore my brace through 7 weeks but by week 4, I had almost full movement. It was locked just before full extension.
        >I did 12 weeks of physical therapy (PT) with daily home exercises that I followed religiously
        >After week 12, I was cleared to go back to the gym but to take it easy on the bicep (no heavy curls, no pull ups)
        >By month six, it seemed like a lifetime ago it happened as I was already back to "normal" and had my final check up and xray.
Now, there is a nerve that wraps around the arm right at the point it will be reconnected so part of your forearm will be numb or tingly to the touch for a good long while. This is perfectly normal.
Two years from tear and all I have is just an ugly but thin scar. Full mobility doing everything I did prior.
Most fun part of it was for the first 6 weeks of PT, I had a fricking full on QT massaging the scar before every session. She'd lube up her hands with lotion, no gloves, and give a deep tissue massage that almost put me to sleep once.

          >immediately contact a doctor about it because you WILL need surgery to reattach it
This is the most important part. The longer you wait, the more scar tissue etc. builds up, the less likely it becomes you will regain normal functions.
Two to three weeks is the maximum time between injury and surgery before complications arise.

Some muscles are worse. A torn pec will try to heal itself by latching on to whatever rib it can reach and attach there, and a surgeon will have to pop it back off. Always take care of yourself and never ego lift.

Everyone tears their biceps doing dumbbell or barbell curls on the fricking preacher bench. STOP DOING PREACHER CURLS.

If you use a bench that is completely 90 degrees vertical up and down, this won't happen because your bicep can rest at the bottom as opposed to being put in that preacher compromised position. So either set up a bench all the way upright and curl, use the other side of the preacher bench that is straight and lean over, do them arnold style leaned over with dumbbell hanging, or just do regular fricking curls with strict form. Preacher bench fricks everyone over all the time. Preacher bicep machine is fine though.

I can curl almost 2pl8 and my biceps are a little smaller than his. Is it just roids speeding up muscle growth faster than tendon growth?

        Anonymous

The movement itself puts the biceps in an extremely vulnerable position when eccentric contraction takes place, especially when you're getting close to locking out your elbows.

What if you just don't fully extend your arms doing preacher curls?

The framing of the rest of the body also plays a role. Leaning into it makes it safer, leaning away makes it more dangerous. Not realising this can quickly snap your shit up when you try to squeeze out the final reps.

    >Why are you still doing preacher curls again?
Preacher curls are supposed to be done slow, controlled and with with light weight. It's like using a scalpel during a surgery and not fricking axe.

Majority of homosexuals will use heavy ass weights to "build" their biceps but none of those twig armed fricks ever tries to do them slow and controlled because it's hard.

I do 30lb dumbbell curls standing, then 25lb hammer preacher curls. I aim for 8-15 reps but the hammers end up 6-8 reps.
I also don't let my arm go fully extended. I stop a couple inches before that.
my forearms have blown up doing this so I am happy.

I never do those. They seem like a weird movement locking your arms down so you hit nothing but your biceps with your movement which is un natural as can be. I think any anons who like these you should just do them really light for reps as a burn out set to after your main work. Save your arms.

Biceps and Achilles sometimes just snap and you can't always prevent it. It can be something relatively innocuous like grabbing a grocery bag but unbeknownst to you the tendon is just in bad shape and there is one point of failure. Snap.

My broscience intuition is that if your bicep is unusually sore or tight you should reduce volume and switch to grip-limited stuff like chinups in the hope your brain will turn off your grip if it detects a problem. Then after six weeks gradually go back to more focused bicep work.

that's not gonna work when you do a true 100% max. competitive powerlifters just choose to risk it because most of them are weaker using a hookgrip. a huge amount of famous powerlifters have torn their bicep, they just consider part of the game and don't whine about it. louie tore both, one completely off the bone that he never got fixed.

I know a guy that has 40+ cm biceps and he doesn't do curls, he is 30+ but trains since teens. His height is 180 cm, arms look massive
My height is 173 cm, I do tone of curls and also weighted chin ups my arms max is 38 on a pump and they don't look huge at all.
My arms solely carried by brachiradialis or how you call it, otherwise quite a dyel looking arm, my triceps is not growing either.
Mostly do calisthenics - only for curls i stack up my dumbbells in backpack take a iron stick and do curls, now it is 40 kg on 5-8 reps then I drop weight
I think you can't have a bad physique with great looking arms. I have 33-34 inch waist, although my shoulders slightly broader, doesn't look that æsthetic, honestly. I was thinking that if I have 40cm arms it would make my waist appear smaller.
