Reading is the same as playing video games.
It's just a fun way to waste time.
Read Call of the Wild, excellent book.

kys israelite, are you actually autistic enough to believe reading is equivalent to playing videogames?

I read it in elementary school it was good from what I remember. I think smartphones have absolutely murdered the reading habits of the small minority that were still reading in like 2011 or so. I used to read every single night before sleeping now I can’t even remember the last book I read. The last piece of serious lit I read was middlemarch and that had to be like eight years ago

The point of literature is to expose Being to thought. Reading illuminates your worldview with the Truth that allows you to see with clarity.

That's certainly what happened when I read the Harry Potter series.

Science takes as its basis arithmetic, which involves representations of Being rather than Being itself.

???? All we study are abstractions. We can't understand nature all at once.

Science does deal only with representations (as it should) but literature does not. Read Homer and you will find that much of what is essential about reality can be disclosed through poetry.

Ok, I'll rephrase. Literature represents Being qua Being and has the ability to create and alter representations. Arithmetic (and thus science etc.) takes already given representations of Being for granted and then abstractly deals with these.

I've actually read Plato so saying 'This is literally just Plato' isn't going to work because I'm aware of all the bizarrely incorrect shit he believed.

Really? I think scientists would strongly disagree with that statement.

Sure, some games even make you read a lot. But pure text books allow you to use your imagination, whereas games rarely do, except for building games I guess.

I did two semesters of literature, never visited IST once. Majored in rhetoric, so read quite a bit from the old greek pederasts.
